EFCC Arrests Three Suspected Fraudsters for Attempted Hacking

Find the EFCC Press release below ...
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a syndicate of scammers for attempting to defraud Enterprise Bank Plc. Ola Lawal, Olumide Kayode and Abass Adekunle were arrested following a botched attempt to compromise the bank’s system and steal depositors’ funds using an electronic device known as Keelog Key Grabber. Continue...

The trio’s arrest way made possible by an insider who revealed to the bank’s management that some fraudsters were planning to gain access to its network, using a device called Keelog Key Grabber. Investigations showed that, a staff of the bank, Owolabi Agboola was contacted by one of the suspected fraudsters, who proposed a business arrangement to him on how to hack into the system of the bank. Agboola subsequently informed management of the bank and he was instructed to play along with the fraudster.
In the arrangement, an electronic device called keelog Key Grabber would be used to harvest passwords of some of the key operation staff of the bank. The grabber was meant to be plugged into the computer system of the Head of Operation of a particular branch, to retrieve information technology configuration settings from the computer system and pave the way for the fraudsters to move customers’ funds out of the bank. Lawal was arrested while trying to hand over the Keelog Key Grabber to Agboola.
His arrest led to the arrest of two other suspects: Olumide Kayode Maborukoje and Abass Ajibade. Items recovered from them include: a keylogger, a laptop, a router, a modem, sim cards, USB keyhole log with a template of keylogger and a jotter containing some account numbers which they intended to use for the fraud. The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

  4. Oh, imagine waking up to find your balance is 0.. how heartless of them. Glad they have been caught although it is questionable if their identity should be published as of yet as all three might not have been declared guilty, the saying bird of same feathers comes to mind.

  25. This country is dumb ...... Arresting this boys ain't the solution... It's just like treating typhoid with panadol, we all know the solution to our problems, Nigerians ain't lazy we are ready to work... Provide jobs especially for graduates..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Investigate properly and you'd find out that most of this boy's are either graduates or under graduates ... What does this tell you, the country has failed the youth... If our leaders are thieves what is the sin to follow suit.. they are our leaders we look up to them... They use our young girls to satisfy their sexual appetite, subject our able bodied young men to crime.. I weep for naija, my advice: if you Yahoo puts food on your table don't hesitate, keep praying to God we're all his kids he listens , Yahoo boy, runs girl, drug barons regardless

  27. This bitches ain't loyal.... Chai and its the same gals that these boys spend their hard earned money on That finds solace in lib to rain curses on the the same hands that feed them..if you curse them you also curse yourself

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's not our fault I blame it on both the gov't and also our girls .. a naija girl can make a pastor turn to a notorious highway robber.. this people motivate us to make money by any means , as a matter of fact the best way to woo a girl this days is to show her your bank account, it works like magic if you doubt me try it .. Am a living testimony. NB: your account must be fat or at least a lil bit above average

  33. Hmmmmm keylogger......

    ReplyDelete
  34. First things first, these guys are clueless about the workings of the IT and network systems environment.

Let it be known that the secure protocols guiding the networks of banks are no joke.

Also, hardware CANNOT just be plugged into an iternal host in a bank's network without being flagged to the system administrator.

More so, installation of removal drives on servers must have been disabled, so these chaps had no clue.

The dumbest move till date was attempting to install a keylogger into the internal workings of a BANK!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!

Nothing would have been gained from such because:

    1. The banks are using good 3rd party software running in the background, hence this will detect that malware in a heartbeat if it succeeds in being

    installed

    2. Keyloggers only capture keystrokes of hosts on which they have been installed

3.There is definitely no useful information that can be retrieved from whichever host machine they decided to place it on, as all they will get if at all 1

and 2 above were passed, is the personal info and correspondence via this machine e.g personal and work email

    4. Before anything can leave the network, one has to be HARDWIRED into this network, and IDS and network hardware have to be compromised. This can take YEARS

if properly configured with good security policies, as this is a bank we are talking about, not a CYBER CAFE!!!!!!!!

5.I think the staff of ALL companies of this magnitude should be schooled on such attempts at 'social engineering' and mitigate against such future threats.

As you are only as strong as your weakest link.

  36. So our money in the banks are no longer safe. Since i will go back to the traditional way of saving. I mean digging the ground and hiding my hard earned money there.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I even thought they were sophisticated hackers. That device is at a nursery level of hacking. There are software versions of the keylog grabber. U install it on your target system and retrieve your data after.
