Photos: GEJ, former Nigerian Leaders hold council of state meeting

President Jonathan today July 8th presided over the 2nd Council of State meeting for the year at Aso Rock villa where VP Namadi Sambo, past Nigerian leaders, State Governors, National Assembly leaders and some other key government functionaries gathered to deliberate on pressing issues facing the nation, with particular focus on security.

Past Nigerian leaders including Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Ernest Shonekan, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Gen Yakubu Gowon, Gen Abdusalam Abubakar, all attended the meeting. See more photos after the cut...


State Governors present included Adamawa state governor Gov Murtala Nyako, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, Theodore Orji of Abia, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Aliyu Babangida of Niger state. Also present were some former Chief Justices of Nigeria.

After the meeting, the council gave the assurance that Chibok girls will soon be found. Gov Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state who spoke to pressmen after the meeting said top on the agenda of the meeting was the security of the nation and the missing Chibok girls. He said the President in conjunction with the the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) briefed the council members on steps they have taken to ensure that the girls are rescued safely from their abductors.
