Governor Fashola condemns military rampage today

Speaking with Channels TV this evening, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola described today's action by the Nigerian Army as very disappointing, stating that they are public servants paid with tax payers money, so shouldn't behave in such a manner. He however said he's waiting for a formal report to know what really transpired.
"I spoke with the Brigadier General who said he was managing and controlling the situation. Nothing I have yet is verified. I am waiting for a formal report before we then can ventilate a position. There is allegation that somebody who was not supposed to be on the BRT route was on the BRT route. As far as I know if something happens to you while you are conducting an unlawful act, it's a criminal offense in its own sense. Its really disappointing to put it mildly that public servants, and that is what soldiers are, paid with tax payers money will act in a manner that is being suggested here, and I say this being suggested because I am waiting for official report to let me know really who played what role, what happened, whether or not even the brigade commander has been able to identify the people who were involved...but if it turns out to be true, it would be a very very irresponsible conduct to put it very mildly" he said.

    1. Fashiola said exactly same thing I said when I first saw a post about the soldiers being on rampage in palmgrove, that these men and women they are assaulting are tax paying citizens that fund their salary and they are supposed to protect them from incidence like this, but the reverse is the case, It can only happen in Nigeria.

  21. Fashola lying will not get you any where , the man was knocked down on the major lane not the BRT lane , all this window dressing will not help you , you have held meetings with the GOC and Brigdge commander and duly briefed , why are you not telling the people what really happened .
No doubt it was bad that buses were burnt but look inwards , are these men not paying tax , are their wives and children not being taxed in lagos state , you don't have monopony of the roads , so what is this wahala you want to start now ?
Gentle yourself ooooh 2015 is just round the corner , your rice and groundnut oil will be rejected , you know now abi unna wan forget .

  42. A life was lost regardless and sadly not the first of this incidental sort...I will be happy to know Governor Fashola meant it differently when he said "if something happens to you while you are conducting an unlawful act” bearing in mind that those BRT dedicated lanes have long existed for road users before they were partitioned. In my humble opinion, if the BRT wanted exclusive rights to their lanes. They should have constructed one. Again I want to think it lawful that the BRT conduct unlawful acts when they pass through roads where they have no dedicated lanes (From the National Stadium to Costain) for instance. Without forgetting the insensitive callous and recklessness of the BRT drivers. Going forward, I’m sure their excesses will be checked and curbed. The army should also be cautioned for taking laws into their own hands.

  44. Hmm. I wil say its an avenue for political oppotunist to take to start showing their threat to d dear state ahead of osun election. Belive me, even if soldiers want to react to dis issue it suld hav been d particular bus that hit d dead fella suld hav been burnt, forgotten dat there no way brt bus coukd hav hit d soldier witout him being on d wrong lane. Evidence is there at d spot those buses were burnt. Shw dat there was a clear demacation. Nd how it even happen must hav beeing that d said soldier was coming opposite direction.
Politics behind dis is dat, ahead osun election d dpd was to use incubent power of presidency control over military to act on his behave provided it for the gain of pdp. And to destabilise ACN(preferably to call dan APC) state. Its might nt sound logical but its was subtly implored.so d action in 9sun nd edo gearing toward same logic.
pdp dont mind paying for damages afta all d money is for d pple nd taxed frm d pple nd ment to be spent by d few to achieve their dirty desired for d pple.
Linda pls follow up wit d investigation. I believe dey cant kill all passby that snap d incident from sending in their snapshot.tanks to high definition camera phone. Wat wil be d outcome of d soldiers, to me they suld be barn from serving in lagos.if possible lagos suld reject dem hence. Dat is if dey cant be rusticated.and compensation suld be to buy new buses back to lagos state govt by military nd yhose car damaged. Den make all parastarters sign undertaken to state govt dat hencesuld will never happen through tjeir representative, nd if happen such fella will be dealt wit.my thought though

  45. can you imagine what fashola is saying, if anyone is on BRT lane is committing an offence, so those bastard thugs he empowered should continue killing people, people of lagos state remove sentiment from this, i have seen how this so called BRT drivers misbehave and hit every one on its way, to me its serves them right. kill a soldier and get war, that BRT driver did it on purpose

  49. How can yall be this dumb? What has fashola has to say, instead of him to blame the reckless brt bus drivers that always thinks that bcos there is a brt road it is their right to kill anyone on the road, so if its your relative that was killed because he used a brt lane you will support fashola and say its criminal to be on the brt lane, what right justifies the driver to take someone's life cos he uses the brt lane..That serves the brt drivers some good lessons there are so dumb and mean. Fashola you should go and educate your drivers on what to do on the road rather than trying to blame the soldiers action because they did what every other person that loses a colleague by a careless brt driver should do..

  50. Last time I checked, a Nigerian stabbed a British soldier to death in the street of London....that is, a stranger unlawfully killing a soldier in his (the soldier's) own country, and the killer was only charged to court and jailed. Here a soldier 'unlawfully' plies the BRT reserved lane and gets knocked down accidentally (if that's trully the case) and the whole soldiers deployed to protect lives go out on rampage, destroying properties and injuring people - the same people whose hard-earned incomes are deducted to pay their (the soldier's) salaries. Now tell me, how many soldiers have been unlawfully killed by the boko haram in the North-Eastern part of this country?, and yet they haven't burnt down the Sambisa forest. Boko haram promises them attacks and even go as far as breaking into the army barracks and killing soldiers, and they have not stopped them. They are here practising their stupid skills in the streets of Lagos. #toobadforacountry

  52. some useless fellows are just illogically criticizing d military without taking a deeper look into d case.it was an act of negligence on d part of the soldier but such criticism shuldnt b awarded 2 d military.mistakes hapen, not all are learned just as you are.u know, most of u have ds believe dat soldiers are illiterates but i bet you dat if u bring out an average civilian and a military personel and both equally assessed, u wuld agree with me dat a military personel will do beta.
