Photo: Politicians and bags of rice...guess it's a strategy that works!

Over the weekend, former Zamfara State governor Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, who is planning to contest again as Governor of the state in 2015, shared bags of rice to his people for Ramadan, making sure to let them know that he's contesting again.

Shinkafi was governor of Zamfara State in 2007 to 2011 and was Aisha Babaginda's second husband.

The strategy is just energetic, its really helping the Poor, i like it and prefer it to sharing candles, leaflets, umbrellas, polos and crickets.

  5. Sadly, the rice-and-other-commodities strategy works. Hungry people abound all over the country.
The only problem is that the rice will last for 2 months at best, (the average family in Zamfara consists of more than one wife and several children), while the Governor gets a 4 year tenor in exchange. Food for thought.

  12. Well it worked in Ekiti, guess he is hoping it works in Zamfara! This is just like in the old empires, were kings kept their subjects hungry and only opened the stores to them when they needed something from the masses.
