Traditional hunters say they are ready to join search for Chibok girls

Traditional hunters in some Northern states say they are ready to join the military in the search for missing Chibok girls, Associated Press reports.

According to the report, the hunters numbering about 500 and ranging between 18 to 80 years old have been in Borno state for two weeks now waiting for the government and the military to give them the permission to go after the missing girls.

The hunters say their magic charms would prevent any blood being drawn from their body. They also expressed their belief in their herbs wrapped in leather pouches as well as cowrie shells, animal teeth and leather bracelets, including a cocktail of fetish substances which provides them spiritual powers that protects them from being pierced by bullets. Continue...

One of the  spokesman for the hunters said
“We're not saying we are better than the soldiers, but we know the bush better than the soldiers. We are seasoned hunters, the bush is our culture and we have the powers that defy guns and knives; we are real men of courage, we trust in Allah for protection, but we are not afraid of Boko Haram. If government is ready to support us, then we can bring back the girls. But if they are not, they should tell us so that we can disband and return to our homes and family,” said one elderly hunter, Baban Kano.

  5. That will be a good move if the soldiers partner with them, because they know the terrain very well, so the soldiers should be working together very harmoniously with the local hunters

  9. Honestly, I think they stand a better chance than your soldiers, unless it's a form of distraction concocted by some people as the search is hot now.
The whole situ has actually made me paranoid.; dnt know what to believe anymore.
    Goodluck to them tho.

  10. They should be incorporated in this search and even the fight against this insurgents, they know the terrain more than the soldiers due to the nature of their work.
If this fight against these insurgents will have a very good result, its quite pertinent the locals are carried along and even designated some roles in this fight.
When America went into Afghanistan, initially they relied only on their force and expertise, but this yeilded little or no result.
This made Petrus to adopt the strategy of using the people to fight the insurgents.

  41. NOW BOKO HARAM WILL JOIN THE SOLDIERS SOON IN SEARCH OF BOKO HARAM, HOW DO YOU VERIFY THESE HUNTERS? IF FOR NOTHING BUT FOR THE SAFETY OF THE SOLDIERS THAT WILL BE WORKING WITH THEM? BOKO HARAM IS ALMOST INVISIBLE AND IT WILL BE SILLY OF ANYBODY TO TRUST EASILY IN THIS CASE. CREDIT TO THEM THEY MIGHT MEAN WELL BUT THE SITUATION DOES NOT PERMIT SENTIMENT AT THIS STAGE, THESE SOLDIER'S LIVES ARE PRECIOUS, THESE SOLDIERS ARE NOT EXPENDABLE SO I FORBID ANYBODY OR AUTHORITY THAT WILL FORCE THEM INTO WORKING WITH UNVERIFIED PERSONNEL OR INTELLIGENCE. HUNTERS CAN GET USEFUL INFO AND PASS IT ON TO THEM, IF HUNTERS WISH TO SEARCH FOR THE MISSING GIRLS,THEY CAN BUT AWAY FROM THE SOLDIERS AND THEY MUST BE MADE AWARE OF THE SOLDIERS POWER TO FIGHT AGAINST ANY THREAT TO THEIR LIVES AND OPERATION. IT AINT ABOUT WHO BRINGS THE GIRLS HOME ITS ABOUT BRINGING THEM BACK AND THE COUNTRY ISNT GOING TO LOOSE MORE LIVES UNLESS THE INEVITABLE IN OTHER TO DO THIS. MY OPINION (BASKALONDON)

    ReplyDelete
  61. As long as they are not Boko Halal themself then they would make excellent guides. People like this can hear a snake hiss from a mile away, they read tracks and they know the terrain. If they are indeed genuine their help should be accepted, not necessarily for combat, but as guides especially how they know to move silently.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Military pls work with them cos they know all ways

    ReplyDelete
  63. So I know from my extended relatives who were in teh business of hunting that hunters do know the forest like their heartbeat. They are also one with nature in order to successfully remain the hunter and not the hunted. Let them go and sniff out those BH people like the animals they are.

  68. ITS ABOUT TIME! They need to STOP TALKING & START DOING! The gov needs to realize they are fighting an UNCONVENTIONAL WAR & must THINK "OUTSIDE THE BOX" onthis one. Had he done this a frekin MONTH AGO those girls probably would've been BACK BY NOW & the president wouldve enjoyed a GREAT V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.! Not to mention PROVING EVERYBODY WRONG about his capabilities as an EFFECTUAL president.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Do they really need the approval of the military. There is freedom of movement, let them enter the forest.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Eyah! These are brave men. Kudos to them!
