The Bride Price app, what do y'all think of it?

Brideprice.com.ng, iro le pa! After playing the game, the app said my bride price is N482k. Lai Lai! Dear future husband, I don't care what this app says, my bride price is currently at N2.5million. If you waste time and don't show up this year, the bride price will increase by 50%. So gbo? Lol. #kidding!

Anyway, have you guys seen this app? Tried it? What do you think? It's a new app that helps women know how much they are worth so they can charge their future husbands accordingly. But it's all in good fun and not to be taken seriously. The app basically assigns virtual monetary value to women in an attempt to calculate their bride price based on factors such as their level of education, skin colour, nationality, weight, beauty, physical features, accents, country of residence, employment status etc'

I find the app hilarious but apparently not everyone does. A Cosmo writer yesterday described the app as sexist and someone even started a petition asking the app makers to take it down saying that it promotes objectification and misogyny towards women but the guys behind it Anakle.com say its just a joke and should not be perceived as a platform to objectify women. The app itself is an aggregation of jokes and stereotypes regarding Brice price in Nigeria. These stereotypes are all jokingly used in various Nigerian cultures and on social media every day.
What the app does is aggregate these collections of jokes in one place, and this is for the purpose of fun and fun only. Admittedly, the satirical content caricatures the popular Bride Price concept popular in Nigeria, and most African countries. It should not be perceived as a platform to objectify woman of any tribe, race or color.


We have taken care that no derogatory, sexually explicit content or offensive language is used on the app. It is also not an attempt to put a price on the true value of a woman.

    Its a joke. people should just chill. if some people have their way everyone will cover their faces in ashes, wear ash coloured clothes and talk in whispers to reflect very solemn behaviour.

    I'm fine with it, its funny. But thats because I am a successful, confident Nigerian woman. I cant say the same for my Nigerian sisters. I fear these jokes and stereotypes do hit hard and subconsciously plant a seed in our minds concerning beauty perception and value of our women.

    Another thing, our entire culture is based on misogyny, so what can we really say. All my mom ever said is "is this how you will be doing XYZ when you are in ILE OKO' ILE OKO means husbands house. I used to get so upset about that as a child like that was my goal in life.

    I also think that the App is sexist, nobody needs to start valuing a woman with the curves and shapes of her body. There is more to a woman than her sexiness. The strength in our hearts, the love in our arms--the arms that have rocked the cradles of the great men and women that have and are still ruling our world. Those are unquantifiable worth of women.     What IS the problem is the concept of Bride price itself, and not the app. The app is just emulating that culture. How else do you think bride's parents calculate their bride price? If it's not based on the girl's beauty, then it's on her education.

I'm not from Nigeria but I tried it out ticking those categories that apply to me and hahahah I am so expensive :-D..
