Fresh attacks in Taraba, four dead, several houses razed

Suspected herdsmen yesterday morning, May 11th, launched fresh attack in Dinya village in Gassol Local Government Council of the state killing at least four people and razing 30 houses. Confirming the attack, the state's Police Public Relations Officer ASP Joseph Kwaji said several ammunitions were recovered from the herdsmen.
"The police, on arrival at the scene of the attack, recovered 13 empty shells of AK47 rifle, four cartridges and an assault rifle,” he said.
Also confirming the incident, the Ward Head of Danacha, Gassol LG Council Daniel Mbaterem said the gunmen stormed the village at about 8:00 a.m. and began killing the villagers and burning houses.

Only recently, the people of  Jukun, Tiv and Fulani communities in the state signed a peace deal to end hostilities in the state. A detachment of the police and army have been drafted to the area and police says investigation was ongoing.

In a related development, Muslim and Christian youths in Kachia town in Kachia LGA of Kaduna state yesterday May 11 engaged themselves in a fracas leading to churches and mosques being razed. Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna state Aminu Lawal confirmed the incident and said no life was lost in the incident. A 24 hour curfew has being placed in the area.

  14. I served 10 years ago as a corper at General Hospital Kachia. It was such a peaceful place back in the day. I hope everyone is really ok. I did meet good people there back in the day who were apologetic that Biafra war ever happened. I also learnt a lot from there about the huge diversity that exists even among the Northern people and the different languages spoken amongst them and how Hausa was a lingua Franca for them and nothing more. I remember going down to eat nice pounded yam at the market and then beside the military cantonment / shooting practice site. Amazing .... Hope this unfortunate breakdown in law does not become a 'continuum'

  32. Seriously I don't understand the kind of government that's being run in Nigeria. If only our government and its security officials can be pro-active but not re-active to issues, and we all trust in God for help, this issue of boko haram woulD be history. Nonetheless though, we'll keep on praying for our country for peace, love and unity. God bless Nigeria.

  36. Must it always be in the North...ain't they tired already...Northern nigeria is the main cause of all the problem nigeria face as a nation..they ruled nigeria for over 30years and am sure if it wasn't for them...nigeria would have been a better place...I just wish we can be separated from northern nigeria...illiterates bastards....cant remember wen such happened in other geographical zones of nigeria and they still wanna rule us...even if they suceed in making me think GEJ is worthless...i'd never vote a northerner for presidency..if you like call me names...am tired already..

  46. Sultan of Sokoto Blames the North...

I have noticed that the WESTERN PRESS and SOME MORONIC Nigerian politicians are shifting the INHERITED POVERTY OF THE NORTH's culture of TALAKAWA-SARAKUNA which promotes POVERTY, on the current admin of GEJ... which is just 2 years and 11 months old?

Do the Western press know that THE NORTHERN ELITES OWN ALMOST ALL THE OIL BLOCKS IN NIGERIA AND HAVE RULED FOR 39 YEARS OUT OF 50?

Do they know that GEJ is the very first president in 100 years to cater for these neglected youths? Do they know that BOKO HARAM BOMBERS AND MASTERMINDS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN NORTHERN POLITICIANS HOMES????

They should please take a tutorial on Nigeria before reporting nonsense and blaming ONE MAN for what a group of people did to themselves...
