Chilling CCTV captures moment man attempted to lead toddler away from his mum

These chilling images show the moment a man appears to lead a toddler away from his mother in a busy shopping centre. In shocking CCTV footage, the young family can be seen walking through the shopping centre in Derby, East Midlands. At one point (far left), the unnamed mother walks very slightly ahead of her child - and seconds later a man wearing a dark jacket and a cap appears. He then approaches the 22-month-old (second left) as the child follows his mother into a store. The man then appears to try and persuade the child to walk off with him (second right). But the unnamed mother turns around (right) and challenges the man, who then seems to apologize and walk off.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to this shocking incident - which took place on Thursday morning. Continue...

Shocking CCTV footage of a man appearing to try and lead a toddler away in a busy shopping centre has emerged. In this frame, the boy (circled) can be seen walking away from his mother (right)

The mother walks in front of the boy and a man (pictured in the far right of this frame) approaches the child
The man approaches the child (left) before appearing to talk the boy and attempting to lead him away (right)

The man, described as white and aged about 60, appears to speak with the child before taking his hand
The man holds the boy's hand and appears to walk away with the child in the opposite direction

Perhaps sensing what is happening behind her, the mother turns (left) and sees the man walking off with her 22-month-old boy (right)

The mother walks up to the man (left) - who then seems to apologise to her and walk away (right)

Police are now questioning a man following the incident - which took place on Thursday morning

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Lamb, of Derbys Police, said:
'This was a very isolated and extremely unusual incident and we are very keen to speak to the person shown in the images. Although we do not know the intentions of the man involved, I would urge parents or those with young children to always be mindful of their safety, especially in crowded places.'
Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact Derbyshire Police.

    6. See how far the so called mum was from her son. The old man probably saw a toddler walking alone and was curios. I get to see toddlers wandering off from their parents in shopping malls, playgrounds, airport e.t.c and on one occasion I carried the child and helped to locate the mother whom I had seen earlier with the child. With the way lynching is going on now, I will start minding my business. I may not have the opportunity to explain myself before they hang a tyre on my neck.

  9. That's true; one has to be very careful going into a crowded place with kids; they should always be in front where you can see them, if you must take them with...
I usually don't go to the mall with my kids; only once in a while, unless out for lunch or dinner..

That man in that footage looks too old to be a kidnapper; MIGHT be the grandfather not in good terms with the daughter/daughter in - law.

  19. OMG! This is so typical Britain and its long history of paedophiles and the abuse/murder of minors. This incident is reminiscent of the James bulgar case, where an innocent 2 yrs old was lend away from his mother by two boys ( 11 and 12 yrs old) to his tragic death. I hope this paedophile is found before another baby is killed.

  44. I blame u mother. We should be more conscious of our kids.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'll blame the woman a bit. Just like I always tell my wife, whenever you are placed in charge of a baby, don't ever allow her to stray off your sight. They know next to nothing. Maybe I am safety conscious by virtue of the environment i work. Especially in busy places, if you can't carry them, hold their hands, otherwise let them walk in front while you monitor then under your watchful eyes. God will not forgive you if anything hurt your child out of your carelessness. Children are the apple of God's eyes. God have mercy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Some people think it's weird when a kid is on a leash . But parents do it here In the western world for a good reason . Buy a leash and make the kids walk at the front you will never loose them . Cause when they try to run off at least they tun off with you and you can always pull them back
