Abducted school girls: First Lady asks women to stop protesting

Patience Jonathan has asked women to stop protesting over the abducted Chibok girls, Daily Trust reports. Mrs Jonathan expressed her frustration yesterday evening at the unwillingness of the Borno state first lady and other Borno state women to work with her on the missing girls. She said she can't be crying more than the bereaved.

According to Mrs Jonathan who burst into tears as she expressed her displeasure, she said she had called for a meeting with first ladies of the various states as well as some borno state officials to enquire on how the girls were kidnapped and find a way out but was suprised to see that some first ladies attended but the first lady of the state were the unfortunate incident happened did not honour her invitation. Continue...

First Ladies of  Nasarawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Gombe, Benue, Abia and Akwa Ibom States attended the meeting as well as Borno State Commissioner of Police, Commissioner for Women Affairs, the principal of Chibok Government Secondary School, the chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, the divisional police officer in the area and the troops on duty when the girls were abducted.

A visibly disappointed Mrs Jonathan said Mrs Shettima was being unconcerned over the girls' abduction. She accused the Borno state women of playing games with the whole kidnapping story.
"Before all these killings, I called and told the first lady of Borno State to let us come together. She answered me yes, but when the kidnap happened, I called her, she did not answer me. I invited her, she did not turn up even up till today. No woman will fold her arms when her house is on fire. Today my house is on fire.
"Before last Friday, I called her and she promised to attend the Friday's meeting here. Bit to our greatest surprise, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. Also today, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. She is the mother of Borno State. She is the first mother of these missing girls. I am their grandmother. She is not coming out. All Nigerian women are calling her. If she is not concerned and she says she doesn't want her people to be safe, then it is left to her. If you tell us you are not crying, why should I cry more than the bereaved. If I cry more than the bereaved, the world would ask me a question.
"If after today, Borno women say we should not help them, then Nigerian women, don't demonstrate again. If you demonstrate and police do you anything, you are on your own. Borno women are playing games. Nigerian women should not go out for demonstration. Don't use school children for demonstration again. Borno women are not ready for cooperation"
"People are dying. How can you play politics when you see your fellow human beings dying. Nigerian women, I beg you to support me. Why we will join our husbands to kill others. We want the killings to stop. If we don't get to know the whereabouts of our daughters, the next thing is they (Boko Haram) will get to us. I am not accusing anybody. My own is let us stop killings and kidnapping. Let us put a stop to this.
"We don't know what might happen. We don't wear bullet-proofs. I am not exempting my self or my husband. If I am found guilty, let me go instead of blood to flow. If our constitution is the problem, let them amend it. Today's meeting will not end because the abducted children are still not out. If you say I should go and sleep, I would go and sleep. But if you say we should move forward to see the end of this, we would go forward", she said.

    2. In as much as she has a point, I don't agree with her that the protest should stop, that women should stop protesting, and school children and other well meaning Nigerians should stop protesting, for goodness sake, her husband is the number one citizen of this country, and his constitutional primary duty is to protect the life and properties of every Nigerian, so what is she saying? What does she mean by "If she (1st lady of borno state) is not concerned and she says she doesn't want her people to be safe, then it is left to her. If you tell us you are not crying, why should I cry more than the bereaved. If I cry more than the bereaved, the world would ask me a question" who is the bereaved? Nigeria as a whole is the bereaved, which world will ask question? So if the governor of borno state for example refuse to turnout for a security meeting called by president Jonathan, then Mr president will get angry and say he will be less concerned about the security of the people of borno abi? Thats a wrong approach, she should chose her worlds wisely please, and stop discourage people, this chibok kidnapping is a threat to our nation as a whole, a threat to our national security, she should put sentiments aside, even if the 1st lady of borno state fails to turn up for a meeting, she should not tell women and people to stop protesting because that same way she might discourage her husband at home Mr president to stop caring out his constitutional primary duty of protecting his citizens because the people of borno or wife of borno is showing a nonchalant attitude towards #bringbackourgirls campaign

    1. GOOD HEART MY NYASH. Why should the first lady honour her invitation? WHY? When the first lady went to chibok when it happened where was she? When she was crying with the mother's of the missing girls where was she? The first lady was in Borno to show support even if her hands and her husband's hand are tied. Bcos of the SOE. Patience is just an irritating nollywood actress wanna be that should go and sleep. Fake tears! Nonsence we must protest.

She is the one meant to lead women to abuja to seek the help of the presidency and not the other way round. If they decide to play politics with chibok girls and hide information. Then I pity them!

If she is truly a mother, why had she not visited the Chibok women all this while. She sat down just like our clueless leaders expecting the first lady of Borno state to come to Abuja. If not for the protests in Nigeria, the US, the UK and voices from Canada in the last few days, the government would have slept in comfort of their homes doing nothing about the worrisome issue. Is she has so much time on her hands she should go and visit tHe north instead of telling all those people to come and give her situational report. Is she the security service? Arrant nonsense, bloated waste

  68. I am terribly saddened to refer to this nonentity as The 1st Lady of Nigeria. Let us analyse her statement very carefully.

You have obviously decided to hands-off if the Borno State 1st lady refuses to honour your invite.. Are you a moron!!!!!

Its your responsibility to go to all measures to ensure the girl are returned irrespective of the people honouring your invite or not. you have the last say for crying out loud.

I apologise to you if my response is a bit harsh but your so called government hasn't made any head way on this case

I never like Jonathan but I am stil finding it so hard to believe this is not political.

  71. Everyone supporting this woman seems to be missing something. I guess they have been payrolled. Don't think you will be able to mess with people's mind for too long. Sympathesing with her for shedding crocodile tears?..hun..Her speech is a propaganda. She's only acting a script. She's an actor. She's meant to divert attention from the important points to the less meaningful ones and gullible ones are falling for such crap hook line and sinker. Lemme tell you, borno first lady has been settled to take the blame for this on behalf of our learned english speaking president's wife. Dont just start having unnnessesacy feelings for someone who has been and who is so much willing to sacrifice you for love of power. Please read in between the lines. Open your eyes. Dont be gullible.

  72. I haven't dropped a comment on this before, I think I just have to this time. What is Patience saying? Is she nuts? She only seems concern cos her husband is under so much pressure, prior to these where was she? Her tears could be real but it doesn't solve anything, we all shed tears so WTF is she proving by shedding tears on national TV? Her husband "The President" is the most dormant president in the history of Nigeria! Holding meetings up and down won't solve anything....all we need is action!!! This BH issue have been on ground for years now and nothing have been done, is it when they kidnap a better half of Nigeria that the president will act? They fools in Aso Rock know who and who is behind these BH issue, it's just some silly power tussle crap that needs to stop. One of the reasons we are saved as christians is because "Jesus" died for us, and "Jonathan" doesn't want to step down inorder to avoid the killing and kidnapping, not that he's of any use up there ....then who's really wicked between Boko Haram and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan? And besides, what's this silly English this so called first lady is blabbing? She calls herself a First Lady and can't complete one full sentence correctly!!! And she was said to have bagged a Doctorate Degree.....that's to show you that even the Jonathan's are corrupted, why will such an illiterate be given a doctorate degree? What a common man will suffer for years starving to get......I don't just wanna visit that aspect orelse I will type a story book here. Ojukwu wanted this country divided and everybody was of the opinion of "One Nigeria".....I hope we are all enjoying our so called "One Nigeria".

I even remembered reading on a blogsite(mudi) that these abduction is a political trap by the northerners. How can 234 students be SS3 students in a school with total population of 1500 or thereabout? How come we haven't heard from the school authority nor WAEC enlisting their names? Many questions are left unanswered. Let us be wise in our judgement.

Truth be told, this isn't a condolence visit, it's a fact/solution finding meeting. If there is a problem in my block of flats and we call an estate meeting, as the party suffering it the most, I will be there first. Same principle applies here. You really shouldn't call yourself a human being if you are willing to abandon some little innocent children to suffer a cruel fate all because of the non challancy of their regional leader? To people like Tiwa savage aka Kiwi kiwa that asked what the rest of Nigerians are doing to help bring the girls back afterall we all have 24hrs!!!! Maam maybe you need to take few mins from your "too cool time" and see the number of status that not so popular Nigerians are writing on this issue, the number of Chibok dps flying left and centre on twitter/instagram/facebook,,some people came out for the demonstration, tmz made a who would you rather headline on Michelle rodriguez and Lisa and a foreigner commented that she could care less because somewhere in Nigeria 234 girls are missing and she considers that "real issue"... Oh and let's not forget a number of foreign artistes that have created awareness on the issue, if you were much of a celeb like you thought you were, that ignorant narcissist line would have cost you your career... 121. Why are there so may haters and pretenders?
It really amazes me while reading some comments here, that from this saddening issue being addressed by the first lady, most of you people can care less, all you want is to attack and throw stones.
So because the poor woman cannot express herself well in English and she doesn't sound so educated, and polished like Obama's wife, so has committed a sin unto death ba? Or perhaps you people's mothers are Harvard trained. And as if the haters themselves can perform better if given a similar role and faced with same experience.
It's a big shame that people are so shallow minded. What is wrong in her calling for the first lady of Borno State to come to Aso for deliberations about the rescue of this girls ehn? As a concerned and respectful first lady, is that too much to ask for the big madam of the Borno state?
Even if she were to be pretending and making a public spectacle of herself, the situation at hand is too touching and sensitive that hating without a tangible cause should be the last thing on anyone's minds.
I really pray those young girls would be found alive and whole by God's grace. And I also wish people would save the bit of energy they use for hating and throwing stones at Gej and Patience to pray for our girls and do anything in our power to make us all smile again over this issue.
Let Jonathan and his wife be, for God's sake. People should stop joining those who wants this administration down at all cost in distracting Jonathan's government. It's ok to criticize, but pls, don't take it personal, criticize fairly.
If Gej and Patience do have a hand in all this mess happening in Nigeria, they'd definitely be judged and disgraced, but if they are innocent, l am so sure that God will vindicate them and fight for them beyond words.
And we'd all be here and see that truly 'there's God o''. ME.
