Robbers raid 8 Lagos streets, rape, destroy 30 cars in 7-hr rampage

According to a report by Punch, armed robbers numbering about 60 stormed 8 different streets in the Mushin area of Lagos in the early hours of Monday morning and operated unchallenged for about 7 hours. The armed men robbed, raped some girls and destroyed several cars during the operation. Full report below...
The hoodlums, who reportedly belonged to two cult groups – Akala boys and Toheeb’s gang – ravaged New Balogun, Euba, Ayonuga, Tiamiyu, Haruna, Ereko, Oyedele streets and Coker Lane. A mosque on Coker Lane was not spared as the worshippers, who slept in the mosque after a vigil, were robbed by the hoodlums.
One of the people in the mosque told Punch that the robbers fired bullets for over one hour before robbing from house-to-house. Continue...

He said, “It was around 12am on Monday morning that we started hearing gunshots. It lasted for about an hour. Around 1am, they started going from house-to-house, robbing the occupants. They stole about seven laptops from the house opposite this mosque. They stole phones, money and everything they saw. They came inside the mosque and took our phones and money. People were crying throughout the night. It was terrible.”

Another witness said the robbers were not in a haste. He said they robbed till 5am and came back at 6am to continue before leaving around 7am.

A Punch correspondent observed that a generator was also removed from its shed by the robbers. Vehicles parked on the streets were vandalised by the robbers, just as two Toyota Hilus van were burnt.

A Punch correspondent counted 20 vehicles, but some residents said about 10 damaged cars had been taken away by their owners for repairs.

Kasali Daramola, a driver who spoke while fighting back tears, told our correspondent he owned one of the burnt vehicles.
He said, “This is the third time they will do this to me. What have I done to them? The first was a Lexus car my younger brother bought for me, which I was planning to sell to acquire a commercial bus to take care of my four kids and wife. I sold the scrap for N30, 000. I used the money I raised to get a bus and I was paying for it by installment. I have not finished the payment when they destroyed it.”

Daramola said the men entered his house and some of the ladies living there were raped.

He said attempts to bring in the police were abortive as they kept saying they were on their way without showing up.

A resident said, “For over five years now this area has not known peace. Will the police say they cannot do anything about it? Around 7am that policemen came here, they still saw some of those robbers around, but did not do anything. Why? I believe the police know all the people causing trouble here and if they want to do something, it doesn’t take them anything.”
Tosin Gbolahan, a resident, said a policeman attached to Alakara Police Station was with the hoodlums on Monday morning.

He said the hoodlums took advantage of a carnival that was held the previous night on Ojo Street to perpetrate the havoc.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, said she would call back, but she had yet to do so as of press time.

  33. Where to start?
Okay, there's a new 112 number making the rounds.
How could the Police have not shown up?

    2. While the Police may have been complicit - a system can be devised so an alert could be sent to police scanners around a three local government wide radius - so you can block exit points of the attackers.
Not all policemen are corrupt and bereft of conscience.

    3. On some level, State Police has to be introduced. It will greatly aid intelligence gathering - maybe
60percent Federal and 40percent state. So there is a database of Gang memebers and related associates. So they can be swooped on and tracked after a mindless operation like this.

    4. I thought there was a scheme to put cameras on every street..or did i read wrong...

    4. This is so Fucking Annoying.

  35. This story is two-sided. It is either the police collaborated with the dare devils or they were scared to confront the. If the latter is the case then nobody should blame them. What's in fighting or paying the ultimate price for a country that doesn't give a damn if you exist or not.
The other police officer seen among the gangs should be identified and investigated.

  55. The DPO in alakara police station is one of the worst police officers in Nigeria. He is so corrupt and i just wonder why this country is sliding backwards everyday. He collects bribes from all angles and area boys settles him regularly so he is indebted to them.He collects rogers from all his boys everyday and for your information this happens in all the police stations in Lagos.Take for example the area commander in area C command. He has grouped his boys into 9 squads with each squad having like 7 officers each.5plain cloth officers and 2uniformed men. They spread themselves around surulere, yaba, akoka and ojuelegba sides looking for young boys in flashy cars like toyota camry muscle, evil spirit honda, tange rovers and other exotic cars up and down. They harrass them like criminals and demands for their mobile phones expecting to see yahoo informations. They forcefully take you to Iponri station and you are forced to write stupid statements on yahoo delaings. In most cases they take you to a cafe around iponri and force you to log in to your different email addresses, print out the emails and then take you to the sheds inside the station to negotiate with you.You either pay or they threaten to charge you to court.Instead of them to catch criminals and robbers they go about looking for yahoo boys. The IG needs to look into this corrupt AREA C command Iponri. At the end of the day they remit returns to the greedy area commander and other area DPOs like Haruna of sabo police station. This country is fucked!

  67. Don't be deceived, i reside in the region and what you all are hearing from the news is a FAT lie.
    1. Can anyone rob in MUSHIN
    2. Can anyone rob for 7Hrs in an area like Mushin filled with Hoodlums and robbers.

The truth of the matter is that, they weren't robbers but they are only fighting to claim authority over illegal taxes in the Idi-Oro axis of Lagos.

The fight is between the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Team Lagos Member (TOBA) and the drug pushers (Akala Boys), Asiwaju has empowered the guy with sophisticated gadgets and machinery over the years and after every political war (Killing of opposing politicians) he goes back to the Agege motor road (Idi-Oro) to collect illegal taxes from companies, banks (GTB, UNITY, ZENITH, FIRST BANK, etc) as well as all the electronics spare part dealers to sustain leaving to an amount of nothing less than N50,000/day cumulatively whereby the main occupants (Akala Boys) never saw a need since they enjoy selling their own market: Indian Hemp (IGBO) until they found out how much he rakes from their community daily and they feel cheated and needed to send him back to his own community (Ereko) one of the 8 streets mentioned in the fight.
He has been flushed out of the left side (Idi-Oro Side) to Fadeyi ever since but because he has machinery to fight while the others don't have since they only major in selling of INDIAN HERP but over the years, they have also purchased theirs.

Asiwaju was involved several times and recently settled the fight few months ago because the boundary has always been the railway line, the people on the left can't cross to the right side of the railway.

The TOBA boys had always wanted a way to be back to Idi-Oro to collect the tax but it has always been to no avail, in lieu of this they look out for events to create war so they can take over and that was why they came through the Carnival on Sunday night even when the carinival was secured by over 20 Nigeria MOPOL but they didnt start the fight in the carnival but went to a 3rd street to matchet a guy called JONAH and also killed Jamiu (Oko's Younger Brother). The Idi-Oro boys (Akala boys) had to retaliate and that is why they left for the left side to attack the Toba boyz but in thier own wisdom, they left the place with a message by destroying cars and breaking bottles since those one had hided.

The truth is the battle has just began because the Jamiu that was killed is the brother to the main Gang Leader who is also an Agbero for NURTW and will definitely retaliate soon meaning another war will unfold.

As for the Nigerian Police, i laugh when i saw all Nigerian responses on LB, for more than 2 years now, over 30 Nigerian Police had been deployed at more than 6 junctions on both sides and you can still visit the region to confirm today, they have always been there but they always support in the attack, if they don't support, they close there eyes and once they see that both sides are done with the fight or destruction, they come after few hours to display when the boys had finish.

I plead to you all in as much as i like the APC as a party with values, i hate Asiwaju for destroying the states with his TEAM lagos, he selected all the TOP Hoodlums in the whole Lagos State and use them as machinery for his bad act and that is where TOBA has gotten his strength.

    It is well...

  71. They are not armed robbers. The fight has been going on for several years now, it is a fight between 2 gang member Akala Boys as was reported & Toba's boys. The 2 gangs are political thugs armed by politicians during the last election cos you'll see them by the politician's side during campaign. The gangs leader are very close to some top politicians in Lagos. the Government knew about everything but couldn't care less. There was a time policemen were stationed there but fight ensued but the police just looked on saying that is not their order. Na God go save this country.
