Question of the day

Here's a question for everyone. Please answer as sincerely as you can. While driving alone on a bridge at midnight, a car that drove past you 5 minutes earlier is involved in a ghastly accident. One of the car tyres burst while on top speed and the car somersaulted severally.

Now the thing is, you're the only other driver on the bridge at the moment, would you stop to help the accident victim? Remember it's 11:55pm... be sincere!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am a woman, if i stopped i might not even be able to carry the victim (s). The best I can do is to put an emergency call to a hospital or the police and pray for the victim(s).

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would be too scared to stop but i will surely call the emergency unit severally as i can to make sure they get to the scene in time. Sorry this is Lagos and many things go wrong all the time even if you only trying to more so at that hour of the night on a lonely bridge....

    ReplyDelete

  27. Linda to be honest, I WILL NOT stop; I will be too scared at 11:55pm driving talkless of getting out of the car for anything other than to keep praying I get to my destination.
What I will do is to call an ambulance for him/her; there's little or nothing ordinary motorist can do in situations like that...

    ReplyDelete
  52. BECAUSE IT IS NIGERIA..MOST LIKELY NOT! BUT IF IT WERE SOMEWHERE ELSE..MAYBE YES. SHAME ON NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT! MADE THEIR CITIZENS TURN TO UNKIND PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION OF THE COUNTRY!

    ReplyDelete
  56. No, I won't stop.. This is Nigeria and not CSI Miami, besides I'm not a paramedic and we don't hav a national emergency number, I'd just drive to the nearest station or sumfin

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm so sorry but no. He'll get help eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes I will definitely stop and help the victims...and yes I am being truthful...the fact that I would be in danger of being robbed would not deter me from helping an accident victim. Life is worth more than whatever it is that I could lose by stopping to help.....so yes I would stop and yes I am being truthful!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I would, though cautiously, and quickly...that's not so late though.

    ReplyDelete
  63. No! I wouldn't. Cos these days goodness is often mistaken for wickedness. The least i'll do Is to call for help for the person, like make an emergency call.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Definitely yes I will.Done that b4 bt not that late. Bt I won't mind the time.

    ReplyDelete

  89. I'll answer by giving u my personal experience. My hubby and I were coming back from a show on d Island around 2am in d morning and our tyre bursted on speed. No accident per se but we had to fix d tyre. Now, I was so scared dat I shit on d 3rd mainland bridge. I distracted him so much dat he cld not get it done. A few cars sped past us. And each time, I became even more scared. Then ds guy came, drove past, reversed, didn't come down but asked wat d problem was. We told him. He now came down, joined us to fix d tyre but no headway. Guess what, he drove us to his house in d dead of d night and we slept over in his house. We went to fix d car in d morning. Our car was not even tampered with. All d jewelries I hid under d seat were intact wen we got there. And guess what d guy said? "I did it for me, it cld be me in dat situation". Still indebted to him. He is an Igbo guy. If u re reading ds, thx again. It's been over. 8yrs now

  98. What a stupid question. Of course I will stop. Its a diff thing u said, it had mechanical fault n stopped, since I'm not sure if its real fault or fake, I will not stop. But accident I will stop. What if it was me nko.

    ReplyDelete
  99. well might not be able to stop and if i eventually stop, would look around if it is what i will handle i will go ahead why more hands come in but i will not fail to call the emergency number why i wait to do anything to help the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Am sorry,I can't wait..I wld jst get to the closest station and inform them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yes I Will. It can happen to anybody and you can be that God sent person to save a life.

    ReplyDelete
  107. God 4give me I don't think I will stop. Its such a complicated situation. Firstly its just u drivin by that time, it takes quit a number of pple 2 perform a resue operation. Secondly what medical facility do u take them to, a medical facility that will pay more attention to treating the causalities than negotiating the bills with the good samaritan. Situations like this are reasons why South Africans laugh at Nigeria who has become the biggest economy power house of Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Y not?hw are u sure u ur sef wl reach home safely, life is all abt risk anytin cn happen

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes I will even if it's 1am

    ReplyDelete
  113. Kai! Tough one. Inasmuch as I have human sympathy, I might not hav the confidence to stop at that point in time to help. I will drive to the nearest police station and call for help

    ReplyDelete
  114. yes i ll stop coz dis tin can happn 2 any1

    ReplyDelete
  115. To be truthful.....No I won't stop to help since am a chic. But I wuld make calls to see if paramedics or some people could go help and give them directions....hopefully it won't be too late

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wait. What? Why not? This is not even a question please!

    ReplyDelete
  117. The truth is that I will not stop my car because I cannot help them.I will simply call those that have the capacity to help, THE POLICE.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yes in PH, I would stop to help. In Lagos, not so sure. It could all be format

    ReplyDelete
  119. Linda why not I will tho is risky buh the most important thing is saving a soul.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I will sincerely stop and help the victim. You never can tell as you can save a life.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Honestly speaking,in a situation in nigeria which you know that it will take d paramedic or d accident response to come asap..I'll only call for help and tightened my heart n pass to be sincere cuz in such situation d mentality of ppl very low cuz dey might even blame u for causing d accident and all so its really a very tricky qtn linda except. We two in d car..I'll stop and render help if its not critical

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ah dis question is very critical, hmmmmm,I'll wait and help.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Always try to be a good *Samaritan* yea i will just to justify my conscience.

    ReplyDelete
  124. hmmmmmm sincerely i wudnt stop. instead i wud call d police or NAMA to make sure they come then i wud jst try and call a friend or some1 to go 2 the scene with me. Or I wud try driving to a hospital to see if i can get nurses or doctors to go with me to the scene

    ReplyDelete
  125. Sincerely YES I'll render a helping even if @ 2am

    ReplyDelete
  126. yea, i *will* what's there at least just to justify my conscience.

    ReplyDelete
  127. yea...do unto others wat u wish dem to do 4 ya!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Would I be able to get any sleep that night if I did not?
Would I be able to live with myself?

    ReplyDelete
  129. No have to sincere to myself.

    ReplyDelete
  130. No have to sincere to myself.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Linda I won't!!! A Lot of things in this country is not the way life should be lived! If its abroad, I will call paramedics and I would be sure they would come there. Here in lagos it would be utmost stupidity for me as a lady to stop by, 1, I would be risking my dear life, 2, what 1st aid knowledge do I even have,3rdly if he or she dies, I become a milky bank to the police. So what I would is try call the lagos ambulance and leave jejeje. Call me heartless but I'd rather be heartless than get into serious trouble and even be blamed by same society that I should this is Nigeria, why did you stop? Family will blame u, friends would blame u! Bella

    ReplyDelete
  132. I'll stop! But after a minute observation!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I would stop to help, leaving my car running just incase, try as fast as I can and call for help as well

    ReplyDelete
  134. As for me,i'll come and check out what has happened,if its a situation i can help i'll,but if not i'll try to alert people.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Will drive awy and call emergency no

    ReplyDelete
  136. God will help the person!

    ReplyDelete
  137. God will turn up 4 that person., i'll definitely rush & call 4 help.

    ReplyDelete
  138. hmm, i think I remember this pic ad someone died in the accident. don't think its smart using the same pic for your survey if i should call it.

the point is, whenever one sees an accident, you either try and help or call the authorities, doesn't make sense taking pictures

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yes, i will wait. The story below which took place in 2011 is similar.Pls pardon the wrong grimmer.
On the fateful night in 2011 i left Office late (10.50pm), my Office is on the Island (Adeyemo Alakija) and at around some minutes to 12pm, i was already at Toyota Bus stop after Charity Bus-stop in Oshodi. I was to turn off the expressway at Aswani junction to connect Osolo way. As i entered the service lane, i saw a man shouting and running helter skelter, at first i thought he was rubbed and needed help so i slowed down. My body was already shaking with fear but wanted to assist. As he approached me i noticed he was asking for help and pointing toward a Petrol tanker packed on the other side of the road. As he gets closer I was able to pick his statement in Yoruba language “Please help me my truck is about to catch fire” “Please help me my truck is about to catch fire” “Please help me my truck is about to catch fire”.
At first I thought it was a ploy to rub me but as I looked towards the truck I saw smoke coming from the engine side and another kind of fear welled up in me (the fear of the entire trucker exploding). All these while, I was praying asking God to be with me, I made Him understand that I only wanted to help a fellow human being and that He should ensure I don’t regret it. My wife put to bed less than a month ago and a lot of things were going through my mind.
I parked my car and search for my fire extinguisher, got it and handed it over to him. By this time I was not scared again as I am now sure he is not an armed rubber. He was able to put off the fire before it become big and immediately started asking for help again. I was startled and he now was pointing to a young boy lying half dead on the road. What happened to him? I enquire. He explained that the boy was trying to stop a car for help and probably the drive mistook him for an armed rubber and knocked him down instead. So what do you want me to do? Please help me take him to the hospital or else he will die here; was his response.
The boy was seriously wounded and the thought in my heart was the Police. What if this boy dies in the car before we get to the Hospital? How will I get myself out of Police trouble? As these thought was going on in my mind the truck driver plea continues and was reminding me that the boy needed quick medical attention. I made up my mind and quickly dash over to where I packed my car opened the door and asked him to bring the boy, but he said he cannot carry the boy alone (All along, I did not stop praying in my mind), that he will need my help get the boy into my car due to the boy injuries.
Again I removed the car key from the ignition (I do not want anyone to play prank on me, by driving off with my car). I crossed over to where they are, but as we made attempt to pick up the boy a Police patrol van came along and parked. They asked question and the driver briefed them of the incident and the boy condition. The Officer in Charge asks his men to put the boy in their van instead. At this point I made for my car with the driver singing various kinds of prayers on me.
It was a night I will not forget in a hurry. I was so scared, but I stayed because I wanted to be of help to someone.

  140. LINDA FOR LAGOS? I CAN ONLY HELP THE PERSON INVOLVED BY CALLING THE EMERGENCY RESCUE TEAM THAT IS ALL I CAN DO OOO BUT THEN IF THE PERSON INVOLVED IS WELL KNOW TO ME I CAN STOP IF NOT OMO NA TO CHANGE GEAR OOO COS IF NIGERIAN POLICE CATCH YOU THERE WITH AM STORY FIT CHANGE SHARP SHARP!!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Hmmm…i am a woman so nop. I will drive straight to the nearest Police station and report the incident so the Police can go help the person.

    ReplyDelete
  142. No i will not stop, because such accident one person can not rescue plus it is dangerous,However i will not ignore the accident, drive to the nearest or safest stop where i can reinforce help may be firefighters, police, people around or government parasters for help programs even could be some friends and neighbours, may be hospital ambulance but i will first be sure of my safety.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Ok Linda, that's a mind boggling question you threw there. My answer to your question is No because I'll be in a hurry to get home myself. People no dey hear word.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Its annoying when people asks questions and end it "BE TRUTHFUL" One would not expect such from LIB owners with their level of exposures.
Now to the matter at hand, of course, I will stop and help the accident victim? Whats the worse that could happen? I will be robbed of my car and cash? But how would I feel going home to watch in the news the next day that the occupants of the car died because "help did not arrive on time.."??

    ReplyDelete
  145. Linda ill be so scared. Driving alone @ dat tym is scary enough let alone helping someone in an accident......what if the person dies??? I heard in lagos if u bring in any accident victim ur presumed to be responsible over the situation. But God can speak to me $ the fear will vanish there $ then.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Yes of course

    ReplyDelete
  147. Depends on my mood. D injured won't rob me. I may also dial 911

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yes I will by calling the police or 911. The only time I won't stop to help is if a passenger who was crossing the road gets hit by someone and maybe dies. I will be scared cause I heard of an incidence where they said the helper was the one who killed the victim. It happens a lot especially where our investigation stuff in nigeria isn't so advanced. If I hit the person however, I will have to carry him. My honest opinion!

    ReplyDelete
  149. to be honest, in nigeria it will be difficult it will have to do with my mood so i say 50\50 i might or not..

    ReplyDelete
  150. I wud drive to d nearest police station n alert them biko.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Aww sweerie, I will help the person. My conscience is a tough one and always judges me even before someone else does. My dear, I will help the persons

    ReplyDelete
  152. I rili want to biliv I wud...dats d ryt thing to do sha, all things being equal I wud.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Honestly, It's a bit suicidal, but will give a helping hand coz you might never know who you are helping..

    ReplyDelete
  171. At that time of the night, in Nigeria! Hell no. I will call the police and alert them though. In the US, I will help the victim and call the police.
You help a victim in Nigeria at that time of the night, you might end up being a victim yourself.

  172. This has happened to me before...although not so late and my dad was in the car. I was driving to Kaduna from Abuja and i remember doing about 150km/hr, the vehicle right infront of me in a split of a second sumersulted and it went up so high i couldn't believe my eyes. i stopped to help praying in my mind not to see anything too horrific which i thought was going to be the case because of the way the car flipped. i got there fuel dripping everywhere, engine oil and the lot. The three passengers still alive although the two of them where in critical conditions i was relieved and happy. My dad was even too scared to come close to the scene. Will i help definitely i will even if its 3am. accidents can happen to anybody (but we dont pray to experience it)

  173. Yes I will stop....then help if I think it is safe and i will also call the agency responsible to rescue.
