According to a report by Premium Times, some victims of Monday's bomb blast receiving medical attention at the Asokoro General
Hospital in Abuja are currently facing hunger as no one is providing
them with food.
One of the survivors, Salome Jim, told Premium Times that she's
only received drugs and drips from the hospital management but no one has given her anything to eat.
"I have been sitting down here waiting for surgery. I am in pain, I am very hungry. No one has come here to give me food, I can neither walk nor move, the nurses and doctors are nice to me but they didn’t give me food. The nurse said she will come and attend to me at 9:30 am this morning and this is 9 o’ clock so I am waiting, but when I came here yesterday they took care of me, I didn’t pay for anything, but they didn’t give us food. I went to bed with an empty stomach, the woman inside the ward over there (she pointed) shared her food with me at midnight, as I am here my relatives don't know I am here as I couldn’t find my phone.” She said. Continue...
Another survivor, Shuaibu Abubakar, who suffers psychological imbalance and pains in his legs said he had not eaten since Monday when he was brought to the hospital.
"I did not eat anything I was too weak to eat but at midnight I couldn’t sleep out of hunger. The last time I ate was on Sunday evening, but there was no food provision. Some people from the mosque came here to give me bread and tea this morning, the hospital only gave us injections and drips. I am still hungry, broke and with no money.” he said
The Minister of Health Onyebuchi Chukwu during his
visit to the Asokoro Hospital was asked by reporters why the victims had
not been fed by the hospital. He denied knowledge of that and said the
Hospital management would look into it
"The management of the hospitals will go back after my departure to find the true situation and sort it out. All hospitals have been very cooperative this is the main situation.” he said.
An official of the Asokoro General Hospital who spoke anonymously
to Premium Times confirmed that the victims were being administered drugs
on empty stomachs
“Some of the victims cannot eat just yet, but some of them who can eat do not have the money to eat, the government can’t only be administering drugs on empty stomachs it can lead to other serious cases. We all tried yesterday but not even a single word of commendations from the government. You people should let Nigerians know the bomb blast victims are hungry and are not fed,” the official said

But if he is going in for a surgery, esp for most surgeries, he shouldn't eat.....except the surgery has been cancelled, otherwise, he should please bear the hunger for awhile, and aim at getting better.

ReplyDeleteNigeria is a failed country.
ReplyDeleteThis country is a bloody hell hole! There isn't just any joy to be found here! Common food?
ReplyDeleteI lack words to describe this comic country called Nigeria, its a pity even the unfortunate Victims of our so called Govt election fights are not even taken care of, when the govt is suppose to be appologetic at every moment. What do we get in return campaign towards 2015 elections this is indeed the most inhuman thing for a so called Govt to do.
ReplyDeleteLinda don't tell me u have become an illiterate, they have burns on them, they are meant 2 be living on drips not food and not even too much water

ReplyDeleteWhat a shame! The federal government and their officials should, as a matter of urgency, provide food to the survivors. How could a country be this insensitive? It's just unfortunate the innocent people often fall victims.
ReplyDeleteHaaaA!!! N Jonathan is out partying *smh I curse Jonathan in d name of Jesus that all d curses in Deut 28 shall be ur lot. Amen n u wld be a wasted generation as d Lord liveth.

DeleteLolz, very good becomes very bad. Nja should learn to do things and take credit. Haba
ReplyDeleteWTF,its uncalled for
ReplyDeleteBad govt we agree, a known fact. But can't some of their family members help them with food? At least some people left some of their relatives or friends at home before what hapnd. Can't they at least bring food for them? We can't all depend on the govt to do everything bcos they end up doing nothing, just eye service work . But at least.. God knows that if I was in Abuja, I would at least cook and take to them at the hospitals, ie if the hospitals allow food from strangers sef. This is really bad.
ReplyDeleteBUT I THINK THE HOSPITAL BILL SHOULD INCLUDE FEEDING AS WELL NAU.
ReplyDeleteHmmn. ok
ReplyDeleteI blame the govt but I also blame us! There are countless rich people in Abj so if we have to wait for the govt to provide food for those people then something must be wrong with our heads!
ReplyDeleteWhy cant we contribute to make a difference? We donated blood why can't we also donate money? To hell with the government but to hell with those waiting on them too cos u're on the same boat!
What a shame

ReplyDeleteAnd here ιƨ our President, touring the country and campaigning. SMH! Shame!
ReplyDeleteIt is this kind of report that makes me wonder if our journalists are not far worse than the politicians they criticize. My relation is one of the victims being treated at Wuse General Hospital. The hospital provides food to the patients except those scheduled for surgery and other procedures. The FG gets my kudos on their response so far.
ReplyDeleteWe would have thought the govt in their search for the BH solution, media publicity and critics of political parties will provide for the injured 100%. However I think they are still catching up on the two political driven wedding over the last wkd.
ReplyDeletechai... nw na hunger go kill dem...obodo di egu.., hw can dey give drugs on empty stomach...
ReplyDeleteGEJ...I don't hav much to say to you...all the idiot asking wat we wnt gej to do after the incident, hope u all re reading this?????even gov fashola cnt be as stupid as mr president, keep goin to parties nd attending rally for 2015 elections .only GOD cn save this country.
ReplyDeleteNow someone whose parents regrettably sent to school, would come here and insult people for calling out an insensitive, selfish president who goes to party 24hours after a major incident in his country! Its too bad that many more are going to die for lack of food. We don't need this at all people! Open your eyes!
ReplyDeleteAhhh! God plz help ur people....coz left to d govt, they prefer them to die. Wish I cud b of help. Imagin a normal human without food since sunday evenin today is wednesday, talkmore of a sick/wounded person HaAa!

ReplyDeletePDP stop the blame game and do something about this. Ok! If APC caused the blast, you guys should please save those that survived!!
ReplyDeleteToo bad indeed
ReplyDeleteToo bad indeed
ReplyDeleteFrankly speaking I don't understand this, does that mean they don't have relatives? I think the most important thing is the fact that they are alive, and free treatment, I work in a government owned hospital and I can tell you that even the free drugs they are receiving are privileges, there is always shortage of drugs in the hospital, talk more of food.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe dis up til now no food for them.may God help u guys!!
ReplyDeleteNa wa o. I feel our presido shld at least feed dis people till they r discharged nau. Is it too much? Hw can d they recover fast with food? Naija shaaaa.

ReplyDeleteim leaving this country no 2 ways about it! this country is useless!! shame shame
ReplyDeleteSave journey Temmi.. Don't have a rethink oo
DeleteThe same way the citizens that live in nyanya are neglected is the the same way the bomb blast victims are left to die of hunger. If this had been one of "them" we would have been reading how they have been flown abroad fro treatment. Th political elite should be careful as that day of reckoning will surely come. And instead of ayo oritsejafor ranting about who are pigs and all that, why dont he mobilise for a fund raising for the victims. Too much hypocrisy in the land.
ReplyDeleteI think dey shud try n get in touch with their relatives...
ReplyDeleteSee useless govt wey we have so....ordinary food na him una no fit provide?...not to talk of provisions???...shame unto una 30x...anofias...

ReplyDeleteIt's sad and shameful to the country, especially when international observers are watching. Could it be that the Government hasn't any emergency provisions for the citizens in situations like this? Even when the Boko Haram attack is the most surest event this days? I'd expect that an agency would have been created for the management and compensation of victims of imminent attacks. Nigeria is at war with not only Boko Haram and poverty, but also with Leadership negligence and insensitivity. Shame on them all... Hmmm!!! BOMB BLAST Victims...HUNGRY....in Africa's LARGEST economy!!!
ReplyDeleteWe all no dat our govt is a lost cause but how many multi-million naira churches do we have in abuja alone?y aren't there churches catering 2 d needs of d needy jus as Jesus christ commanded!our govt is useless and hopeless but can't d church do anything?

ReplyDeleteLinda, these victims are not hungry, Nigeians are actually visiting them and donating to them. I am just coming from asokoro hospital and I was able to see both females and males. Some of them haven't started feeding due to the level of their injury, but they can drink. As a matter of fact they are fully loaded with food stuffs and bottled water. NTA are currently interviewing some of them. I would have backed up this with a picture but cannot take picture. I spoke yo the victims personally and they are well taken care of, they also said so many people have been visiting them and making contributions.
ReplyDeleteShame of us as a people we are so insensitive that its took a foreigner in person of uk high commisioner to donate blood before we respond we cannt even send food aids to victims we are waiting for government that seem to be overwhelm with the situations on ground, we always attack ourselves every slighted opportunites we hv. I think we are not just diffcult as a people we are just different.

ReplyDeleteIf she's awaiting surgery thats the reason she hasnt been fed. There is a risk of aspiration...which could lead to death if she is fed before surgery.
ReplyDeletehello people, dere is o point abusing any1.... if d patient is going In for surgery, ofcos dey cant eat, as dat will interfere with d surgical produce and even put d patient @ more risk. u dont want her dying on d surgical table anyway.
