Africa’s number one
music authority, MTV Base has announced the nominees
for this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards. The
announcement was made tonight, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 at an impressive
nominations party at The Sands in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This year’s nominations
prove that Nigerian music has fast taken over Africa. Out of fifteen different
categories, Nigeria has been nominated in eleven categories and includes some
of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry including Omotola
Jalade, Chimamanda Adichie, 2Face, PSquare, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Flavour
among many others. Continue...
The different categories,
which include Best Male, Best Female, Song
of the Year and Artist of the Year
has also broadened the scope of the MAMA awards franchise as achievements in
non-music fields will also be recognized. They include “Personality of the Year” and
“Transform Today by Absolut”, an award designed to recognize and support
young, emerging and original African creative talents who use their imagination
to fuel social transformation and bring positive attention to the continent.
Davido has the most
nominations this year with four nods for Song
of the Year, Best male, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Following closely behind with 3 nominations is dynamic duo, P Square
with Best Group, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year while Wizkid receives
two nods for Best Male and Best Collaboration.
Other Nigerian nominees include
2Face,
Burna Boy, Chidinma, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Flavour, Ice Prince, KCEE, May D,
Olamide, Phyno and Tiwa Savage.
Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing
Director, Viacom International Media Networks Africa, “We congratulate all the nominees for the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.
This year, the MAMA offers a stunning platform for African artists, it also
celebrates the young personalities, leaders and creatives who are making a
positive impact on the continent.”

Can't wait to know who emerges winner cos I'm not interested in that one. Can't even guess out of these 3

Very good list. lupita and Chimamanda will make the selection difficult in the personality category. Those of you castigating, I really don't see your point.

ReplyDeleteyou can Omo T is out of this list but seriously I havent heard a lot been said about YAya toure y people but if you say Chimannda , lupita and Omo T I agree and as for the music list everyone loves Davido music and Kcee and Tiwa savage it's played almost everyday on every Senegal station it only hurt me to see J. martins out of this list with his touching body and as for visual Clearence peters got it.
ReplyDeleteYAH OMOTOLA!!! Congrats woman hope she wins!
ReplyDeleteAlways doing her own BIG. Love you, Omosexy. Haters can't comprehend! Hahahaha
And trust me , in entertainment 9ja is the king. Well respected oth in music and movies and personality especially in Ghana , Senegal, Ivory coast, the gambia and urkina faso only that the 9ja people no dey respect the talent they get 4 africa dem too dey look down on themselves.
ReplyDeleteAnd trust me , in entertainment 9ja is the king. Well respected oth in music and movies and personality especially in Ghana , Senegal, Ivory coast, the gambia and urkina faso only that the 9ja people no dey respect the talent they get 4 africa dem too dey look down on themselves.

ReplyDeleteSong of the year is tough virtually all the songs are dope. anyway limpopo is my favourite lots of love for kohna and jika .and pluto rember is a nice song for those who appreciate the music as an art and not noise making.
ReplyDeleteOk
ReplyDeleteI ddnt see davido as much o an artist till this year. He is versatile. Groove songs, wedding songs, all 4ollow. Proud o him! Its good to see a big man's child paving his own way! He is a rolemodel somewhat.
ReplyDeleteProud o you Davido!
So proud!
Ur critics doesn't count @ dis tym pple, they've worked hard enuf to b noticed..........may d dopest talent win.....#congrats to them all

ReplyDeleteWell I see no point wif d critics If they were nominated, it simply implies that they've worked hard enuf to b noticed.......
ReplyDeleteWIZKID will definitely win in the two category he was nominated 4
ReplyDeleteto be frank. i don't buy into this list.
ReplyDelete* Nigeria has talents. why is South Africa dominating the list.
* It should have been equal number of nominations. e.g 3 south africa, 3nigerian, 3 angola etc
* How many South African Artist do we know here in Nigeria or even play their music.
* Besides' south african music always follow same pattern/lyric so where is the creativity here that bring about the nomination.
* Where are the other african country artists
etc
I stopped liking chimamanda after that "Mrs" fiasco. I think she overdoes it with the whole feminist thing and needs to grow up. I'm an Igbo woman and I still think her books contain wayyyy too much vernacular considering that she has an international audience and after purple hibiscus and half of a yellow sun,I lost interest. .
ReplyDeleteI think Lupita should be honored in her own home. I hope she doesnt go all Hollywood on us and not attend, that will be messed up but I doubt it though, she will be so honored to be recognized by her people and that will be us going her our stamp of approval.you'd be surprised that she has some of these nominees on her iPod playlist and would love to be in their midst.
Omotola...lol I like her but the other nominees are not her mate and for some reason I still see her as a local champion..a champion still.
Hnmnnnn.....these Nigerians sef! ......Person dey included in Times list of 100 most influential people WORLD WIDE and to you she still be local champion??????????????????
DeleteAnyways even bible talk say " A prophet has no honour in his home town!"
ON 2 The Next!
Pls why was iyanya snubbed in that list. Iyanya was evertywhere and anywhere last year so what is this list really talking about. Omawunmi also snubbed. Abeg abeg
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to those that made the list. I keep saying is : when your time is your time is. Davido is really doing well for HKN I hope his father is proud of him. Congratulations Nigerians. Your music is great I love it I hope Davido, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Lupita and Big Nuz win their categories
ReplyDeleteits great to see Nigerian artists dominate alongside south Africans. but I've noticed one thing, in Nigeria we don't play music from other African countries. but our music is heavily played all over Africa. is it because music from other African countries is not as good as ours or we just don't bother to play foreign African songs? just thought about it now. and concerning the male artist of the year... on merit it should go to davido but since ppl in Africa are voting , wizkid might just nick it.
