Military commanders aiding Boko Haram, soldier alleges

According to a report by Punch, a Nigerian soldier who was a guest on the Voice of America Hausa Service has claimed that some military chiefs are aiding the men of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The soldier who did not reveal his identity, told VON Hausa Service, that sometime ago, while serving in Bama Unit in Borno state, a commander from a nearby unit got in contact with his own commandant and asked for backup.

He said when he and the soldiers were to meet with the soldiers from the other commandant, they discovered they were given different uniforms and in the brink of launching the attack on the insurgent group, the soldiers from the other unit were withdrawn by their commandant leaving them to face the men of the Islamic sect alone with light arms. He also claimed that some of the insurgents they killed were officers that conducted training in military base in Kontagora near Abuja. Continue...

"We had only light arms and our men were being picked off one after the other. We realised that some of them were actually mercenaries from the Nigerian army… hired to fight us,” he said.

The unidentified soldier said that most of his colleagues are silently putting their arms down and leaving the army due to the frustrations they experienced and what he termed the politicizing of the war against the Islamic sect
"“I swear by Allah, there are soldiers who are coming out of the forest after they were abandoned; several of them dropped their weapons and just went home. There were more than 20 of them from this battalion in Kwanduga. Even me that is talking to you now, I am preparing to leave. I just want to tell the world so that they will know what is happening. These people are doing this secretly.” he said
His claim on some military personnel being recruited by the sect group seem to have been confirmed as some Military high command on Sunday launched an investigation into claims of a lance corporal who was said to be killed by the Special Forces during an encounter with  insurgents in Borno State. The Lance Corporal according to a source told Punch that he was a trusted  trainer of Special Forces at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kontagora.
"A soldier who trains Special Forces at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontagora, Niger State, was among those who were killed. The man was not among the Special Forces; he was obviously leading the attack for the insurgents but he got killed. It was one of the soldiers that identified him as somebody from his unit in Kotangora. The soldier called attention to the man’s corpse and when the commander said he should be searched, they recovered a current pass authorizing him to leave Kotangora and his Army identity card from him".
Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade in response to the soldiers claims said they were all not true and that the unidentified soldier could be a Boko Haram sect member who was disguising as a Soldier.
"The person that granted that interview on the VOA; we believe he is not a soldier, he could just be one of those simulated on the other side to give some false impression to support the insurgents.” He refused to comment on the story about the killed lance corporal who is alleged to have been working for the sect members.

  3. Of course there are many saboteurs in the Nigerian military benefitting from this menace. They've been the ones frustrating the effort of the Govt in curbing the activities of the boko haram.

  10. It's high time Nigerians come together and fight this insurgency..this "claim" on soldiers assisting BH isn't a lie, it's very true. The problem isn't religious, it's pure political and unfortunately it's from the top public office past/present holders.

  11. The problem I have with us Nigerians is this; we always deny everything.what is wrong in accepting or at the very least say that we are investigating an issue.
Every where in the world,in every industry or organization, there are moles, defectors, traitors, spies.it is not unheard of even within the US secret service,UK'S CIA,etc.
The attacks are too coordinated and mostly successful.there has to be detailed and precise information which can only be from source!

  12. I am not surprised... this is why the FG can't seem to tackle them. They know when to hit and how to hit, only people with inside info can do so much. i Heard it on the news this morning and i was not surprised.

  20. If this is a lie then the commanders involved shud explain the reason why road blocks was left open and d military personnels guiding one of the attacked schools in d north left the scene just one hour before boko haram invaded d school and invaded innocent children (2) why Boko Haram members drive hilux in convoy in the affected areas without being checked or arrested (3) why Soldiers invaded the Fulani community last week and killed open fire at the innocent Fulanis? (4) why is enof military forces not put in place to hunt the Boko Haram I.e Navy, Airforce and soldiers all at once to hunt down BH (5) boka haram shudnt be so difficult for the military force compared to other battles d Nigerian Army help other African countries to conquer successfully or are they powerless in their own country... Why are the soldiers not getting all the support they needed from the government????

  22. Olukolade should stop hiding and pretending as if he's not aware of the terrible politics in the Nigerian army. It is so obvious that there are moles in the Nigerian army who are helping the boko boys, this can be justified with the recent success attack of the boko boys at the FGG schl that few mins after the Nigerian army redrew from that area the attack happened, also the attack at the heavily armed army barraks...and so on. May God help us o, Amen

  23. I am not surprised. There have been whisperings of such from soldiers a long time ago. Besides, how could BH take out a military barracks. How could BH have attacked a school barely 24hours after someone ordered the soldiers guarding the school to be redeployed (even though no one is investgating that)? They are not phantoms. How could BH operate for 5-6 hours without the military being aware - despite the locals contacting them. Jonathan has to step up and take his eyes away from 2015 for a while - he is the GCFR and the buck stops at his desk.

  29. I think this boko haram thingy with other things like pipeline sabbotage and unnecessary privatizations are means that the government is using to rip us off. They would keep on pumping money into such causes like trying to fill a basket with water. 2015 is close by and money is needed. Yes, we are the largest economy in africa. The money lies in the hands of politicians who can still afford anything they like even years after office.

  30. For so many reasons I think I believe this soldier.. How else will they(insurgents) be able to operate confidently if there are no strong backups.. There's really more to this that we can see..

Yes, i have heard something like this recently regarding Nig armies acting as mercenaries. they get paid(500k) by bokoharam sponsors when they kill at least a fellow soldier. It's now a business in the north for those soldiers and the sect. Fed Gvt pls take note and do thorough investigations or screening

  43. I believe this story is true. I have been having similar nudges about this boko haram matter. Most of the top military officials are benefitting from this insurgence. Reason being that unlimited funds are pomped into the military in order for them to combat this nsurgency, yet our soldiers complaining that the sect are better equipped. WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING TO? SOME MILITARY PERSONNELS ARE ENRICHING THEMSELVES WITH THE ONGOING INSURGENCE.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I believe this. The Nigerian army that were deployed to the terrorism states are enough to annihilate the terrorists in those regions. Nigeria is a country where nothing, anything and everything is possible. God help us. *Drops mic*
