Alhaji Mutairu Babatunde Oriowo, husband of Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has debunked the fraud and theft story against him occasioned through a declaration by the EFCC and published recently in a national daily. The businessman, who is the CEO of Primavera Construction & Engineering Ltd, added that, contrary to EFCC’s statement declaring him wanted, he is not on the run because he has not committed any offence to warrant running away from his fatherland.
Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has
also said that she is standing by her husband on the matter, believing that the
EFCC publication was meant to destroy his hard-earned reputation as a philanthropist
who derives joy in helping people, adding that the story was also a calculated
attempt to smear her own name as a celebrity.
According to Mr. Orilowo, the EFCC and
MTN were only out to blackmail him because the court case he instituted against
EFCC, seeking an injunction to restrain the agency from arresting him or
declaring him wanted, will be determine on the 28th of April 2014. Yet
he was declared wanted on no basis many weeks before the hearing date.
Explaining the issue further, Mr.
Orilowo said that “there was this MTN Cooperative whose membership is of MTN
workers. Their union came together with this idea of a project called ‘Y’ello
Estate’ to be built at Okun Ajah. That is my home town and where I do most of
my businesses. So, based on my popularity and as a philanthropist who commands
respect in the area, my company, Primavera Engineering & Construction
Limited, was approached by MTN to help buy five hectares of land, which we did.
Later, they came to us again and said oh, there are more demands, get us five
hectares more. We did. The subscribers now became much interested in the
project because they were going to make it the best of such Estates in Lagos”.
“We had an agreement from the
beginning because they trusted us to deliver. The agreement was for me to; one,
buy the lands; two, to ensure that the lands acquired were validly documented,
and three, to be the sole developer of the Estate”.
“But some powerful people at MTN
then came in after the agreement with the aim to hijack it. They saw the
project as a laudable one and they were shocked that I was the only man
handling the project. They came with an excuse that many people were bidding
for it and it should not be a one-man thing. But I have spent close to one
billion naira on this project. The agreement was for me to collect from MTN 20
percent of the money for mobilization and then go ahead to complete it with my
personal money. And I have spent a lot on it. You know how big a project like
an Estate can be; talk of roads, bridges and other amenities”.
“So, since the MTN had decided to
bring in another developer and my company has committed so much into executing
the project, I asked that the money I have spent so far be refunded. But when
they were not forthcoming, I took the MTN Cooperative to court seeking to
retrieve my money. We got judgment from Hon. Justice Olateru-Olagbegi. We then
had negotiations with MTN based on the court judgment. Under the terms of
settlement, MTN was to pay us substantial sums of money”.
“But MTN still refused to pay us, so
we commenced third-party involvement proceedings against MTN which resulted in
the issuance of an order freezing the bank accounts of MTN. While we await
action on our money, MTN went to EFCC to lodge criminal complaints against us,
alleging theft of money without disclosing the court proceedings on the issue.
This was after the EFCC, on its own, had gone to court to institute criminal
proceedings against us based on MTN’s complaints, which is still pending before
the court”.
I suppose he is taking a cue from the former governor of central bank Mr sanusi, its good Nigerians know their right

He should have involved a bank even if he has the money. MTN wouldn't have done that nonsense if he had a solid backing that will deal with them in any capacity.. An individual up against MTN; hmm....
ReplyDeleteHowever, if his business is clean.. he's got nothing to worry about, but to be ready for real battle... MTN are crooks!
* My R1.50c comment *
U seriously think he's got all dat capital. Cool down na. One or two banks sef must defo b involved
Deletea big theif that's what you are!!! you can say this bullshit to those who do not know you, you haven't committed any crime so why have you been on the run for the past months, why is your company and filling station deserted. and you have the guts to defend your self, how can MTN as big as they are heap such accusation on you if your hands are clean, why is EFCC after you. big theif OLeh!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteU will remain anonymous for ever ... Coward!

ReplyDeletethis baba can lie for Africa oh, u have succeeded in turning the story around to suit u and attract pity, referring to his statement"that I command respect in my area( okun Ajah) is a big lie. he is a known fraudster and has been hiding for sometime now because the law has caught with him
ReplyDeletethe same laide bakare that abandoned her husband and followed alhaji as for the husband and his denials, why would MTN n EFCC go to the extent of publishing his picture and declaring him wanted if he isn't guilty
ReplyDeleteVery good deal with those useless MTN rogues, stealing from us here in Nigeria, they are idiots
ReplyDeleteBut you look like a THIEF..
ReplyDeleteLaide's husband has provided a very simple, straightforward and logical explanation that made a lot of sense and I chose to believe him at this point.
ReplyDeleteUntil the EFCC or MTN comes out with a better explanation, as far as I am concerned, this man is being unjustly maligned.
Joseph Kabikala
He is a liar. i know this man well and all the bullshit he does. he owes me 3.5m for the work we did for him. he buys things on credit a lot and yes he is on the run.
ReplyDeletei have all 3 of his phone numbers and address. he still has a pending case with me. the bastard pays with a first bank check, and there is never money in his acct. i have pictures of his check. he does a lot of shady deals. we did security upgrade for him and he still hasn't paid. He is an illiterate and has no common sense. sleeps with girls ard and buys them gifts on credit. he left nigeria since the first wk in feb and still hasn't returned after we turned the heat on him. FOOLISH WEAK MAN!!! he lies a lot. always talking abt billions, but he actually has nothing. fucked up fat asshole. i guess his lawyer is the one trying to turn this ard.
MTN is never straightforward. Nonsense.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way i can upload pictures of checks this man has written for people ? i wanted to help him buy a land, he gave me fake checks, i dont know how stupid any girl will be to follow this fat pig. he uses first bank at first, then they closed his acct for fraud, now he has a gtbank, and he has started the same shit with it. brags abt money he doesnt have calls billions like anything. he is on my bbm i can show anyone proof that this man is a scam star. he cant even compose a sentence without shooting an atomic bomb. when he gets back, they shld search his car, there is a pistol in the car, only GOD knows where he stole it from. i was getting down from his car before i discovered i was stepping on a 9mm hand gun. thief!
ReplyDeleteE no concern me .
ReplyDeleteThe facts are still cloudy. EFCC does not just go for someone without facts about criminal acts. The guys at EFCC are smarter than that. Expect him to sing a different tune by the time they catch him.
ReplyDeleteIf he is the owner of Primevara then he is known crook! He is the owner of the Primevera filling station in Sangotedo that sells fake and diluted fuel. Just google the name. I spent almost N50k repairing my car after buying his fuel. The car knocked just at the exit of the filling station. Only to see two more cars there with the same issue.
ReplyDeleteBefore he closed shop and ran, you would always see mechanics at the gate that fix fuel issues cos they know what he does. I hope he rots in jail.
Well his story sounds so real ^& pitiable, But u neva know......

ReplyDeleteabeg make una no vex, y do most yorubas like cream n brown for parties, weddings, engagements. just what to know.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is trying to turn things around..he is nothing but an illiterate land grabber that got lucky...but has now run out of luck...he truly is on the run..if not let him walk into effcc office and challenge them for declaring him wanted...I hear he is also under investigation by Nigerian police SFU...while am not a fan of MTN cos they are also one of the most fraudulent company operating in naija today...but primavera is also a crook and should pay for his crimes..
