Court orders Financial Reporting Council to stop investigating Sanusi

Justice J. T. Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Lagos, today April 4th ordered the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to stop any further investigations it is currently carrying out on the suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido.

The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria had leveled allegations of financial recklessness and abuse of office on Sanusi and recommended his suspension which was effected on February 20

The council in its presentation to the president said they found Mr Sanusi's report on the audited financial statement of the CBN for the year ended Dec. 2012 and other related issues unsatisfactory.

Upon his Suspension, Mr Sanusi was invited to a panel set up by the council at Elephant House Ikeja Lagos for questioning on March 27th but failed to turn up. Reports say Sanusi felt the panel was bias and was set out to rubbish his person. He filed a suit that same day asking the court to stop the FRCN from investigating him as it lacked the constitutional power to investigate him. His request was granted by a judge today.

    1. Guy to be honest with you. You talk like an illiterate. If that's not what you are self. Can't you see. Goodluck has nothing on him. Goodluck can control the judge and others. But mehn they are being smart. They know the law. Sanusi has changed the banking sector. I have money in three different banks and I'm not scared if they would fold up. We don't need to sleep with our eyes opened anymore. He has done a lot in Nigeria when it comes to the banking sector. Your childish. And fighting for first to comment. And you didn't read this article which I can bet. And your lot following the case. All you do is say shit. Cos you want to come t first. That's why you not a finance student or into politics. We finance grad and students know better. So please before you talk think and stop doing first to comment or simply stfu ok. Faggot.

    2. I personally believe there's no smoke without fire. A man who truly has nothing to hide wouldn't interfere with investigations. He can only demand his freedom while they investigate. Nobody is above the law. If he has nothing to hide, let them finish their investigation and declare him clean. But asking them to stop? Most likely there are dirty truths to be uncovered if they continue

    3. Froggy if u r indeed a finance student, u will know that it was Charles Soludo that ensured that bank customers can sleep wit both eyes closed n not Sanusi. So stop talking trash here

    4. SHADYBRIAN, I beg to differ. On the contrary, it was Charles Soludo that created the problems in the banking industry which Sanusi ended up trying to fix. Consolidation created the monsters that grew out of control and we're headed for death before Sanusi's reforms rescued the industry. In the end Jim (sorry, I mean Emefiele) will end up reversing all the gains.

    1. Cos he is a Fulani Prince... When he imprisoned other southerners for crimes he is yet to prove, the Courts weren't so swift... He now claims that because the English courts seized some of these persons' properties, they are suddenly guilty for crimes his best friend did not only commit twice, but also got bailout funds for. Thank GOd for the Chris Brown story, at least we know now that the white man can ride on the back of popular demand to be either over aggressive with the law or even break certain law provisions to dehumanize people they don't think should be enjoying

Ndi I Okereke Onyuike was grilled and disgraced from her office for things not close to this.. Sometimes I don't blame the way those in the middle belt, d average igbo man or those in the south south feel about the Fulani... D nation is a floor mat for them to walk over... If not because he was Fulani he Wudnt have bin called up.as ED in First Bank, let alone make it here...

Let's even bring in the legal angle.. if FRCN cannot hold CBN and it's principal officers for not preparing an IFRS account according to requirements by their own legislature passed Act, how can they hold any other entity responsible for not doing theirs. There goes another black hole of confusion for another organization, thus destroying another system

I hate to sound abusive but some Nigerians are educated Illitrates and the fact that they can even put up a comment on Linda ikeji's blog spot does not even make them literate...the court deals with facts and not sentiments or propaganda...He knows his right and he has fought for it and even our defective constitution still exonerated him.
Nigerians should always seek facts and stop allowing these stupid politicians play on our intelligence.

  28. You can't investigate a citizen without probable cause. If the court ordered them to stop that means they did not have any probable cause. That is the difference between harassment and investigating a crime.
Figure that if the police calls your jobs, business partners, picks you up everyday on the pretence that they are investigating you, that will definitely destroy your life whether or not it is true. That is why in most democratic country a juge has to give an order before the police becomes intrusive into someone's life. They need to come up with something tangible and if after all this while they have not found anything, going further is simply harassing him.

    1. My Brother, pls stop insulting people cos it does not speak well of u. U might be educated, but u can still put ur point across without d insults. My case is that Sanusi quite alright has done a number of significant positive changes to the banking sector, however Sanusi has an extremist view and this was reflected when he tried to bring in Islamic banking into Nigeria and Ngozi Iweala told him to call it non interest banking cos Nigeria has already got too much problems with Islamic Extremism. Not all Muslims are crazy, but Nigerians have the tendency to make any good thing converted for evil purposes to benefit the elite. The Northern Protectorate have been ruling majority of our existence of this Nation since independence and the Northerners have the Richest people in this country but the Feudal system has prevented the popular masses from benefitting from this wealth thus leading to the North being the poorest part of Nigeria both in terms of development, empowerment, education etc. So please don't try to fool anybody by pretending that President Goodluck is the cause of the crises in the North. When Christians were being persecuted in the North even up to FCT Abuja, did any of the Northern Elite Condemn this Act? No. Muslims can worship freely in any southern State in Nigeria but it's not the same for Christians in the North. Ask the Northern Christians? My Brother, It is obvious that The President has a Vendetta against Sanusi however it is obvious that Sanusi is an APC Supporter. Therefore All is Fair in Live and War. Sanusi is Protected in APC Stronghold but for how long. Good luck is the President After all. GOD Bless Nigeria and Protects its Citizens. Amen.

Investigators will bring their report based on figures in the accounts and it is the bid of SLS to counter it. After all, the numbers they shall be bringing out it's from its account. Why the fear if your hands are free. I smell a rat. I believed Sanusi before now. But with all these i think he is not innocent.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But let us face it...
The FRC lacks the statutory powers to investigate Sanusi....
Why is the federal government afraid of handing Sanusi over to the EFCC for investigation and possible prosecution...
Doesn't the president have an AGF to equip him with the requisite and appropriate legal advise?!
