President Jonathan summons Interior Minister, Immigration boss

President Jonathan this morning summoned the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Parradang, to explain last Saturday's unfortunate incident at the poorly organized NIS recruitment exercise where over ten people died during stampedes at various test centres.

The two ministers both arrived at the office of the Chief of Staff where they spent sometime before being invited into the President's office where they spent about 30mins. Both men declined to speak to reporters about their discussion with the President when they came out. Hopefully, someone will explain to us why the government would ask jobless youths to pay N1,000 to write employment test.

R we ready to drop our pens, get off d internet, take off ur suits n ties and march to d govt, ready to lose it all for benefit of the future. If the answer is No, then prepare for dis to be swept under d carpet as usual. REVOLUTION!!!

    4. A country scam its youth by collecting over 500million from them and killing some of them in the process and others went home in silence after seeing the deads amongs them... If that can't ignite revolution, noting else will in dis damn country.

    5. Thank you Bonario.the agencies "raise" money any which way as pay back to senior officials.these funds that aren't accounted for are"shared" all the way to Mrs. patience Jonathan.
Mr president, are we going to be distracted with another committee event.
Nigerians, the pen is mightier than the sword.lets keep hunting our leaders for answers to how and what they do with our resources.

  3. Abba Moro and David Paradang have clearly failed to meet their responsibility in office before, during and after the disaster and must provide to Nigerians, answers to the following questions.

1-Who decided to conduct the entire recruitment exercise in one day instead of splitting it into several events?

2- Who decided that it is necessary to invite about 600,000 applicants and not reduce the number through a previous selection?

3-Who was the nationwide coordinator of the NIS recruitment exercise?

4-What agency was responsible for providing security and coordinating the cooperation between the agencies involved?

5-What officials represented the Comptroller General and the Civil Defense, Fire Immigration and Prison Service’s Board (CDFIPB) of the Ministry of Interior at each of the scenes?

6-When were the Police, the Civil Defense, the Road Safety Corps and the State Governments informed about the recruitment exercise?
Did the involved agencies meet prior to the recruitment exercise to coordinate?

7-Was there any written strategy for the crowd management and an emergency plan drafted?

8-How many officers of what agencies were deployed at each scene?

9-Was any agency specialized in crowd management deployed at the densely populated venues?

The president has been on record in 2011 instructing the National Security Adviser to conduct a special training on crowd management to security agencies after the stampede at a PDP rally in Port Harcourt? Were those officers involved in the preparation stage of this exercise?

If Lagos. the recruitment exercise was suspended due to insufficient security preparations, why was the exercise not suspended in other centers to avoid further casualties?

11- When was the CGI and the Minister of Interior informed about casualties and what actions were taken after that?

12-Why was there an absence of information, coordinating and documentation of casualties, injured and missed persons more than 24 hours later? What agency is responsible for providing moral and psychological support to the injured and relatives of the deceased?

13-What are the procedures on ground now for the missing persons, for the injured, for the dead?

14-Who is going to compensate the relatives of the deceased and the injured?

15-Why did the minister put off addressing the issues till Monday, a full 48 hours after the tragedy?

These questions are not by any means exhaustive. One thing that is certain is that investigations won´t happen if the public is not collectively looking for answers to these questions. We can’t afford to be distracted from the issues while waiting for the government to set up another committee which will never indict or prosecute the guilty.
Nigerians must show that they are fed up with investigation-reports that violate the truth and only reflect power struggle between Ministers and committee members.
We must all put our heads together and dig to the bottom of this criminal negligence, keeping the rod of anger hot and flaming. If state institutions join in, they are highly welcome but we cannot wait for them to take the initiative. We have to investigate by ourselves, using friends, families, whistle blowers, documents in public domain, the media, etc.

So I implore you to join the cause for justice. Someone has to pay the price and take responsibility for these deaths. Families of the lost and injured deserve the truth, an apology and we cannot move on until it is provided.

To change our country,we must understand the concept of change and open our entire self to the organs of change.I will submit again that Obama cannot survive in the political tsunamic turbulence in Nigeria for just a day.Suffix to say that we have our on institutions of change, and if we must cause that change our attitude and perception must be purged of intellectual and sentimental cobwebs.Let me categorically state that,no where in the world is void of political mafians undoing one another which paves way for corruption and undelivery of dividends to the masses. If jonathan sacks the men at helm of affairs will it raise the dead ie is a cosmetic approach, however the onions to arrest this ugly incident lies on information, therefore,he is right to summon them first and subsequent investigations follows. However as youths lets remember that soverignty is of u and I and let's use it to the betterment of our fatherland and not name calling which will further plung us to political abysmal. For the records,I don't wanna be paid for saying my opinion,I only choose to pray for my leaders irrespective of party of interest.I have seen a good man with gud intentions in office, but he tot that he has the best cabinet, unknown to him that his cbinet has a mole that destroys his gud gestures. Its everywhere people.Same happened to me while I was a faculty president.Pray u don't witness what I did in that small capacity.
I will continue to pray for Mr.president since my voice he can't hear, but my prayers he can feel.My humble submission

All d applicants didn't hv same qualification so y nt split den accordin 2 thr qualifications. D root cause of ol ds is dsorganization and it is so cos d whole exercise is a charade. 41. I agree with many of you, this is just for show. Jonathan and his lot are more interested in stealing oil money than they are in building a sensible country. But to be honest, it is not their fault, IT IS OUR FAULT. We let incompetent politicians keep recycling themselves in government, and yet we expect a different outcome. PURE MADNESS! God helps those who help themselves! While we criticize our politicians the world also criticizes us, why haven't we fought for change? My people, it is time we organize a series of massive protests to demand fundamental change. Imagine those stadiums filled with youth all marching in protests in front of government houses? The government might kill some of us but they definitely cannot kill all of us. They cannot risk a war because war gets in the way of "business as usual." My people, we need to protest not just at the Universities but in front of the National Assembly, in front of government houses, in front of all the big Lagos parties. Let us make Nigeria as uncomfortable for them as it is for us. Because as long as the politicians are comfortable, no amount of social media complaining will change anything.

I am more than willing to join in any such protest and in planning one, but we all must be in solidarity. I will be honest, I am afraid to die, I fear pain and I fear death. But in Nigeria's current state I can easily die anyways either from a terrorist attack, or a militia attack, or from hunger, or from the attack of a disgruntled policeman or power-hungry army man or simply at the hands of kidnappers or armed robbers. So I as for me, I would rather die fighting for change; I do not want to be just anyone's victim.

Again, my people. Let us protest. The government cannot kill all of us. More importantly, the government is not as strong as it looks. Why else would there be militias, terrorists, and all sorts of thugs & kidnappers crawling all over Nigeria? That is a sign of a very very weak government. Strong governments monopolize violence, weak ones share it with terrorists and the like. So let us once and for all demand change. Let's stop making silly excuses about how Nigerians are meek, etc. etc.. Remember, when the government threatened to remove the oil subsidy, Nigerians magically forgot that they were meek and were in the streets protesting. And what happened? The government postponed its plans. This is living proof that we can ask for change and we can get it. So let's be honest, the only thing stopping us is that we want change but we are too lazy or scared to actually want to fight for it. Boko Haram is not scared and they are not waiting around, if it is not our government that kills us, it will be then. So let's help prevent this. Let us protest and demand fundamental change. We cannot expect God to come down from heaven and do things that we can do for ourselves. I ask you honestly, did God come down and free us from the British? No, Nigerians freed themselves from colonialism. I am sure our grandparents prayed about it, but they did not leave it at prayer, they got up, went into the streets and demanded their freedom. Just like black South Africans freed themselves from apartheid and Black Americans freed themselves from segregation. In all three cases, the church played an active role, there was lots of prayer but importantly, there was lots of ACTION! Even in the Bible, Moses fought to set his people free and only then did God assist him in parting the ocean. David fought goliath himself, he didn't wait for God to throw the stone. I could go on. Again, God helps those who help themselves! So as concerned Nigerians we need to stop waiting for God to come down from heaven to do the work that we must do. Don't expect him to save us when we won't fight to save it ourselves. We are better that that.

Pregnant women were made to engage in physical excercises and some eventually died. Some pple are crying to burial grounds, others are smiling to the bank. What a life...this is so sad,no light,no water,no fuel in 2014!!!!! Where is it heard of?? PHCN collects 750naira 'service charge' for 'services' never rendered from billions of nigerians every month. NNPC/Govt made over 20billion naira off masses in one week of fuel scaricty/prize hike.
