Homeless single mom jailed for leaving her kids in car to go on job interview

What a heartbreaking mugshot. A homeless single mom, 35 year old Shanesha Taylor, who struggled to make ends meet is in jail after she left her two sons, a 2 year old and 6 month old in her car while she went on a job interview.

Madamenoire.com reports...
The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was arrested after she left her young sons in a hot SUV that was locked with the windows cracked as she went for a job interview at an insurance company. A passerby heard Taylor’s youngest child crying and called police. When they arrived, Taylor returned to her car 45 minutes after police got to the scene, and when police arrested her, the two boys were reportedly “crying and sweating profusely.” Taylor told police that she was homeless and needed the work, and because she couldn’t find someone to watch her kids, she had to take them with her. This event occurred on March 20. Continue...
The response to her story has been split, with some people saying that while she did make a mistake, she was simply trying to find work to feed her kids. Others say, she left two kids in a hot car, it’s wrong, dangerous, and she should have known better. Well, those in support of Taylor have actually set up a fundraising campaign on YouCaring.com to help raise money for Taylor and her kids, who are in the custody of Child Protective Services at this time as she awaits charges. The goal was only $9,000, which according to the person who set up the fundraising campaign, Amanda Bishop, would be put into an account for her family. However, the fundraiser has brought in a whopping $63,000.

Taylor is still in jail while her children remain in protective custody.

Was she wrong to leave her kids in the car to go look for a job? What's your thoughts on this?

    1. What u saying? Small things? Those kids could have fucking died. Months ago in the U.S same thing happened. The little boy died while his mom was in the grocery store. What about the white lady in the same U S again, who left her two kids in the car while her bf fucked her in another car in d same car park? Her kids died too..so don't go there. But I pity her bcos she was left with no choice. She was only trying to survive.

  15. Firstly Arizona State's weather is HOT it can climb up 100 degrees plus. So yes she is wrong because they can suffocate or get sun burned.

If i was in her position i would walk into that interview with the children, and look the interviewer in the eye and say: AM SORRY I DO NOT HAVE HELP, NEITHER A JOB TO PAY FOR BABY SITTING.

Please can i have them here while you interview me. The highest that can happen is they will go into a conference room with enough space for the interview, and they will try to entertain the kids.... or the INTERVIEWER will say NO. then that will reflect bad on the company....

    ReplyDelete

    1. You think with your anus. No employer I repeat no employer would welcome you with children for an interview. Once they see that they would conclude that she wouldn't have enough time for her job and as such not suitable for the position

      Delete
    2. Yeah right and of course the 'bad reflection' on the company that says no will really help her pay her bills. You are of course free to criticise her actions but in doing so you should come up with a practical alternative suggestion.

      Delete
    3. Ever one knows best with d benefit of hindsight. Yes it gets hot and it was not d best decidion. But those sentiments don't really hold here. Besides she may hv been desperate and probably ton her kids to some other interviews and was overlooked thus her decision to do or sooner other way. Now 2yrs and 6months old kids. Really !!!! mk baby sitters of the workers during biz hours

    4. Wrong, they wouldn't have died because she left the windows a crack...meaning she wound down a little.
Supported, 100%, she should have walked in with those babies!!! She's still a very loving mum though. I guess the trauma of homelessness and joblessness, with two babies and evidently with no other person to help, overwhelmed her and she acted the way she did.

  16. There was a similar story about a woman that left her kids in a hot car to sleep with her boyfriend, these children died oh, so regardless of what she left them to do, it was ignorant on her part and she shud hv known better, I think they shud show some leniency and warn her , or put her on community service.

    ReplyDelete
  17. no she wasnt wrong at all. like she said, apparently she is homeless and she had no option. besides she went away for a job interview.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It is not wrong. In their society, the level of dependency is too high, that it would be almost impossible for her to get somebody to babysit without payment. Just depends on the angle you see it for, but she left them for a greater good.

  43. very sad, and of course it was wrong but we live in desperate times and we have to survive. She was unlucky and you cant ask a two year old and six month old to not cry or suffocate whilst mummy goes for her interview so that was bad judgment on her part. The worst thing is maybe she could of gotten help if she just asked, alot of the time our pride stops us from asking for help that will be better in the long run and get into problems as a result. I wish the best for her and can't judge too much as I wasnt in her desperate situation.

  44. I feel so sad for her. The US, as much as it could be a land of opportunities, can also be a difficult place to live. Imagine not having someone to drop her kids with! but a 6-mth old baby must have a father na!! haba!
Quite a difficult situation to comment on; flip side though, those children could have died of exhaustion.

    1. I'm telling you, they would leave us in the car and wind the windows down a little, we could be there for 2hrs. Doubt if the kids were crying because of the heat(the window was slightly wound down and one of the windows was cracked) I think they were crying because their mom was nowhere in sight

      Delete
  108. There's no right or wrong in this matter. She was desperate that's the only reason she left them in the car.yes leaving kids in a locked car is very dangerous, she knew that and that's why she lefts the windows open just a bit. I cannot condemn her because I don't know what its like to be homeless with 2 little kids. If she had a choice she wouldn't have taken that route. I pray things work out for her and her kids. #heartbrokenforyoudearstranger

  118. Its like the movie 'Good Deeds' its not fair. When you are down on your luck and its like the world has conspired against you.

I cant say what she should have done different. And i know people would say she should have begged someone to help, it doesn't always work out that way.
Shelters wont help either they molest people there at night.

    Its just Sad.

  129. So funny how she doesn't have a home but does have a car. Misplaced priorities. But I think all she got was love for her kids and hope for a brighter tomorrow.

  130. Poor mum. Similar thing happened to me too .had to attend a work focus interview at jobcentre plus couldn't get a baby sitter had to leave my kids with a total stranger god help us single mums.

    ReplyDelete
  131. She's wrong in doing that because she knows the law of America, and besides that, she locked up the kids in d car! Dangerous move right there. We all know she's trying to make ends meet but not at the extent of putting the kids life at risk. I feel bad for her tho but she could have dropped the kids with a family member to watch over them. I hope she can get out of jail and take care of her kids

    ReplyDelete
  132. She was so wrong leaving those kids in d car! She could have gone into d office with them! Sorry this happened to her! If its here in Nigeria, nobody cares! I wonder when we will get to this level of being security conscious!

  133. The useless father/s of her children should have stepped in to watch the children while the mother job hunts.

    Just my 10 cents opinion.

  134. Obviously majority of the people commenting here have never lived in the States, so I am not surprised by the comments. Here is what she could have done:
    1. Every State in the USA has a program for single parents without a job that covers daycare, housing, food and handout to cater for domestic needs. Did she apply for this and was denied?
    2. She could have walked into that interview with her kids.

In United States, law has no sympathy and that's why the country will continue to grow higher. You cannot hide under sentiments to cover up wrongdoing.

    Bigk

    ReplyDelete
  135. I don't think you Nigerians understand the expression "windows are cracked" which means they were open. Also if you suggested she got a babysitter I'm just going to assume you skipped over the part that said "homeless" if you think if she can in any way, shape, or form afford help. She came back after 45 minutes also. Jailing her, separating her from her children, keeping those kids in the highly dehumanizing foster care system is literally setting those kids up for failure and much pain and trauma in life. We need to stop condemning black women for non violent crimes. This woman needs a lot of things and being put behind bars is not one of them. Also now that she has a criminal record, finding a decent job is literally out of the question. Sad sad

  137. She is right but she should have at least opened the window a little bit for ventilation. All of you asking what about baby sitter? Biko do you think baby sitting is free? mind you it is way too expensive than you think plus its very hard to put your child in other people's custody because the society we have now ehn...perverts. Again, whre the fuck is the baby father? mehn girls suppose close Toto oh

  146. She was completely wrong. What if d children had died of suffocation by d time she came back . Doesn't she have relatives like mother.. Sisters...or even friends or church member to leave d babies with. Sometimes I don't understand thz oyibos nd their lone lives.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Why will some one who have never travel out from Nigeria blame her?
she is homeless, dont have money to pay babysit,or do u think dat western world are like Nigeria u have all families around you?
in Europe ur even mother will demand money from u too.or it depend if de government are supporting her nd pays her kids monthly

  148. HEYA, SHE SHOULD BE FORGIVEN.

  149. She's Homeless and she has a Car? How does she pay for Gas to fill up her tank? Too bad for her, they might even take her kids away from her!

  150. Its funny hw u guys are sayin she's wrong...ders no hw she will enter d office with does kids n still get d job, funny but true in nigeria leaving ur child inside d car is a very normal tin

    ReplyDelete
  151. Let them help her get something doing putting her inside jail is not the best way

    ReplyDelete
  152. It was wrong of her to leave her kids alone in the car. Here's why: it's spring time already, and the weather is getting real hot. which means that her kids could die from suffocation and heat inhalation. leaving them by themselves also gives room for child abduction. Though it wasn't a deliberate act from her, I think she should be granted a bail, and given back her kids.

    ReplyDelete
  153. She did everything wrong. Those kids could have died.in dt car if the police hadn't come the time they did. What if she comes out from d interview to see d dead bodies of those kids in d car

    ReplyDelete
  154. She is very, very, very, very wrong. Her story may be in defense. even if she is homeless, what if the children die before she comes back? how then would she spend the earning from the job? may be for their burial. Tufiakwa! she is wrong

    ReplyDelete
  155. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH OFFICIAL BADOO.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Eyaaaa sory bt i dont take ur ideal at all, u could av taking dem to reception

    ReplyDelete
  157. Homeless but she get car, well what she did is totally wrong coa does kids could ve died, dont they hear other peoples experience, but still pity her though

    ReplyDelete
  158. This official badoo is daft. What part of homeless don't you understand? Someone is homeless, you are asking for babysitter? Na wa for stupidity o

What she did was wrong, you have to look at it from perspective of if she had any family, she wouldn't be homeless, and if you also look at the fact that you can't just walk up to anyone to look after your kids bcos homeless people only really know other homeless people some of who maybe drug addicts. With all the child molestation that happens she couldn't have just left those kids

This brought tears to my eyes bcos as much as she would have preferred to keep those kids safe, she had to get a job to take her out of her homeless position.

How do you know if the place she went for job interview had somewhere the kids could have stayed or if they would have allowed her bring the kids in, or if she tot taking those kids to the venue would have disqualified her?

I know the children could have died from heat but the window was cracked open so that someone couldn't just stick their hand in and steal the kids - Abi you haven't heard of pile kidnapping kids abroad?)

It's undeniable she was wrong, but I do feel her plight. I hope she is released and that they give her custody of those children

    ReplyDelete
  159. There is so much atrocities against women. I tot the law should favor the weak. This woman was desperate in looking for a job and that is what the law should consider that it was deliberate.

Where is the husband of the woman????

    ReplyDelete
  160. to be a single mother is not easy, to get a job too is not easy. no employer will want to see u with kids at first sight. first impression matters. but she wud hv left them in the car with the glasses down, risky though, inshort no better way except someone is taking care of them.they need to consider her. #sosadrightnow#

    via official intercom

    ReplyDelete
  161. It is sad all around but my question is this: did they just call her for the job the same day? I think not! She would have known about the job interview in advance so she could have found someone to take the children for a few hours while she went to the job interview. She can't tell me she has NO friends, no family members, she knows NOBODY that can watch the kids for an hour, where are the children's father?
There is absolutely no excuse for leaving those children in the car by themselves in the heat, no excuse! Arizona wey be sey temperature fit reach 106 degrees?

    ReplyDelete
  162. The law is too harsh in America, I think they should be merciful as she went for interview to be able to feed the children not to meet a boyfriend. Instead the government should offer her a helping hand as a single parent.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Common, she is homeless. Fine, she did wrong but just before you judge her, please read a copy of americanah by adichie if you have never been in the state. Then you can understand what black poor go through.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Well sincerely you can't be driving an Suv without a home is weird cos only insurance and car note will get her a place to stay with the kids while going on public transportation till things fall in place , I gaze the judge found her excuses baseless before decide she be jailed ... Life can't be bought back , she should know better, however those kids get paid by the government over 400$ a month each for food stamps unless she is residing in the USA illegally, however where is the father of those kids? He should get the jail term instead of the woman .. unless he is no where to be found..

    ReplyDelete
  165. This is an unfortunate situation, but what she did was wrong wrong wrong, anything can happen at any given moment - those children are too young!! Could she not have gone even just to a centre or don't tell me she has no friends or relatives to give them the child for one minute
