Policeman caught on video demanding bribe now in police custody

The police officer caught on video demanding 'dollar bribe' from a Nigerian-American he stopped for wearing a navy-like cargo pant, has been arrested and currently in police custody.

The policeman now identified as Corporal Aniyem Chiyem was heard in the video saying "Arrange dollars. Give us dollars".

According to a press statement released this evening by the Nigerian police, Cpl Chiyem is currently undergoing Orderly Room trials and if found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary actions. See the video and press statement after the cut...

The video below...

The press statement below...

Policeman on video allegedly demanding dollar bribe arrested, now in police custody.

A hitherto unidentified policeman caught in a hidden camera allegedly demanding “dollar bribe” from a citizen has been identified and arrested. He is F/No. 374171 Cpl Aniyem Chiyem attached to Isheri Division, Lagos State Police Command. His arrest was sequel to a matching order issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Umar Abubakar Manko to ensure prompt arrest and investigation of the matter. Following his arrest, the suspect who is now in police custody, is undergoing Orderly Room trials and if found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary actions.

Meanwhile, the IGP has commended the unknown whistleblower in this case for his painstaking efforts in exposing what would have been a hidden crime.  He equally enjoins other members of the public to emulate this noble and patriotic action which will certainly go a long way in checkmating crime in our society.

  67. Another corrupt "police" officer demanding a backhander. His career is over. Damn. He could have been a Commissioner of Police. He could have been the Inspector General of Police, Local Government Chairman, bank manager, State Governor, member of the House of Reps, Senator, government Minister, a very wealthy former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a very wealthy retired army general of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a very wealthy retired former police chief, a very wealthy former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria of he could have even been the Founder, General Overseer, Pastor, Prophet, The Lord's Anointed, Bishop, Archbishop & Archduke of his own (offshore tax haven registered) tithe offering sponging miracle working (prosperity) tax dodging mega church Limited, but he foolishly threw it all away ... he threw his life away taking peanuts. Aniyem Chiyem is no different from the OGAs AT THE TOP. The system of government in Nigeria is not Federal system of government & is not Unitary system of government. It's federal, it's nationwide and it's democratic. It's Kleptocracy. kleptocracy by kleptocrats & kleptomaniacs. The kleptocrats & kleptomaniacs aka politicians should adopt Aniyem Chiyem. The government can easily stop police officers from taking bribes. Politicians should make it a criminal offence punishable by death for any trifling civilian caught filming any Nigerian Police officer taking bribe. Make it a criminal offence punishable by death for any trifling blogger or newspaper that writes about bribery or / & corruption pertaining to any Nigerian Police officer or the Nigerian Police Force. It must also be a criminal offence punishable death penalty for any police officer that does not share the bribes with his fellow police officers & OGA AT THE TOP. Problem solved. That's how to eradicate bribery & corruption in the Nigeria Police Force. Frank Mba said Aniyem Chiyem's prompt arrest was at the instruction of Mohammed Abubakar to Umar Manko. Spits on the phuckin floor. Aniyem Chiyem is currently in police custody undergoing "Orderly Room trials" & if found guilty, would face "appropriate disciplinary actions." I wonder what that means. Join a political party? That can't be a disciplinary action, but would be typical. Nigerian politics is a dirty game of bribery, corruption, thievery & double standards. Compared to the "big thieves" & OGAs AT THE TOP in Abuja & all over Nigeria who looted & still looting Nigeria on a daily basis, bribe taking police officers are SMALL FRY. This press release is pathetic. It's a pointless & meaningless damage limitation exercise. The pervasive corruption in Nigeria can be eradicated when y'all start arresting & jailing yourselves. START FROM THIS LIST; KICK DOWN THE GATES OF THEIR PALATIAL MANSIONS & JAIL THEM: The Abacha family, Femi Fani- Kayode, Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, Joshua Dariye, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, BODE GEORGE, SAM EGWU, Attahiru Bafarawa, Peter Odili, ORJI UZOR KALU, Jolly Nyame, Abiye Sekibo, Maurice Iwu, Saminu Turaki, Chimaroke Nnamani, Lucky Igbinedion, Bankole Dimeji, Ayo Fayose, Oyinlola Olagunsoye, Michael Boatmang, Adamu Abdullahi, Prof Babalola Borishade, Nyeson Wike, Kenny Martin, Prince Ibrahim, Francis Okokuro, Ndudi Elumelu, Patricia ETTEH, Adenike Grange, Boni Haruna, All the Judges in Nigeria, All the serving senators of this current government, All the serving Federal House of Representatives of this current government, Leadership of the senate, CURRENT SERVING GOVERNORS, The Entire Hierarchy of the Police Force, .... & many, many others too numerous to mention. PS, since embezzlement is now a "legitimate" source of income, it's about time the OGAs AT THE TOP start paying tax for their loot.

  76. This I.G means well. However, more efforts needs to be put in place to checkmate this malaise. This is because, the rank and file of the Nigerian Police is so corrupt that Policemen openly ask people coming into this country, especially from the Asian continent for bribe at our airports. The Customs and Immigrations officers are equally guilty of this shameful acts. They collect bribes as low as $100 from fraudulent Asian businessmen without proper documentation to enter into our country.
