Fashola Signs No Smoking Bill Into Law

Dear smokers who live in Lagos state, governor Fashola has signed the No Smoking in Public Places Bill into law. It means it is now illegal to lit your cigarettes in public places e.g public toilets, museums, nurseries, any facility used for the care of children etc. According to the law, people who smoke in public places will risk a 3-year jail term. Owners of establishments must also put a 'No Smoking' sign around their property or face 6 months imprisonment or N100,000 fine.

Corporate organizations that don't place the ‘No Smoking’ sign within its premises, would be liable to N250, 000 fine.

The best part is, anyone who smokes in the presence of a child shall be liable on conviction to a fine of N15, 000 or 1 month imprisonment. I love this. Second hand smoking is just as dangerous!

  21. Its a welcome development. But the question is how wld this law be enforced? Since we don't have law enforcer pertrolling around or CCTVs installed to watch out. So this law will be very difficult to enforce, especially in areas like mushin.

  30. Its a welcome development. Many youths that re cannabis dependent started with cigarrette smoking which was inculcated in them by observing the adults, so pls, for posterity's sake, such acts dt negatively affect our kids should b put in check. For those saying we have more pressing issues, dnt worry. Wen ur son gets influenced to smoke cigarretes, graduates to indian hemp and consequently suffers frm psychiatric disorders, then u wil appreciate this law, not to talk of the effects of passive smoking

  32. Very useless law, the fumes from generators is a 100 times worst than cigarette and I knw almost every single house in lagos owns one. Even d smoke from heavy duty vehicles is by far more deadly than cigarette. D govt shud start by bannin gen and heavy duty vehicles if dey care about d people. Useless law, I wanna how dey r goin to enforce it, dey beta get ready to build more prisons.

  46. Second hand smoking is as dangerous as smoking the cig. I have a friend who puffs and blows the smoke on others face so they get to breath in the smoke and get intoxicated gradually without knowing.

Primitive and senseless bill.Shey una support gay bill........haaahahhahhaah.I told you they won't stop at it.They will still make bills to restrain people frm giving birth to more than 5 children.Sounds cool because it helps stop d population frm explosing but....all des laws erode our fundamental freedom.Whether they sound moral or not
