Dear smokers who live in Lagos state, governor Fashola has signed the No Smoking in Public Places Bill into law. It means it is now illegal to lit your cigarettes in public places e.g public toilets, museums, nurseries, any facility used for the care of children etc. According to the law, people who smoke in public places will risk a 3-year jail term. Owners of establishments must also put a 'No Smoking' sign around their property or face 6 months
imprisonment or N100,000 fine.
Corporate organizations that don't place the ‘No
Smoking’ sign within its premises, would be liable to N250, 000 fine.
The best part is, anyone who smokes in the presence of
a child shall be liable on conviction to a fine of N15, 000 or 1
month imprisonment. I love this. Second hand smoking is just as dangerous!
Tonto dike u don hear bcos u no dey see or notice No smoking sign.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't Tonto dike that was in that pics den.. It was princess pemu
DeleteFashola himself is a smoker! Heavy one for that matter. Coded guy!

ReplyDeletePassive smoking is dangerous. I'm in total support of this law but what happens when Fashiola leaves office? will these laws remain effective?
ReplyDeleteMy fear exactly. He has set the bar sooo high. Lagos is now a reference point for other states in Nigeria. It would really be a shame if the next person in power falls short.
DeleteOn point jare....
ReplyDeleteGood development but bad For locomotives fellows. ⌣̊┈̥-̶̯͡»̶̥♡thanks ⌣̊┈̥-̶̯͡»̶̥

ReplyDeleteTrue, dis is a reasonable bill, Nigerian lawmakers shuld rily start becoming concerned bout d overall welfare of d pple.. Rily nice
DeleteNa wa o!!! which kind rubbish be this na? Oya make dem start dey build smoking booths or else dem no go get space for their jail cells as dem don start to arrest Gays as well.

ReplyDeleteYes o............. up fashiola, down smokers in Lagos.
ReplyDeleteAs for me.. i will be smoking in my room with the doors closed.
ReplyDeleteDat is your business...as long as you don't smoke in the public, you can smoke your life out!
DeleteIts a welcome development. But the question is how wld this law be enforced? Since we don't have law enforcer pertrolling around or CCTVs installed to watch out. So this law will be very difficult to enforce, especially in areas like mushin.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!!!! little do u know that nigerian police know all these bills and d amount to charge more than dey recall their wife of 20yrs of marriage's date of birth.....someone asked d same question about seat belts well I guess u know wats up with that now in Lagos state!!!

ReplyDeleteMadam na wao! Post my comment na! Haba, u dey use my comment make luv?
ReplyDeleteThats for those in lagos , as we in FCT who da fuck are you to pass such useles bill into law shit!!!!, where is my benson biko
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you black like this. The cigar is destroying you silently.
DeleteIts a welcome development. Many youths that re cannabis dependent started with cigarrette smoking which was inculcated in them by observing the adults, so pls, for posterity's sake, such acts dt negatively affect our kids should b put in check. For those saying we have more pressing issues, dnt worry. Wen ur son gets influenced to smoke cigarretes, graduates to indian hemp and consequently suffers frm psychiatric disorders, then u wil appreciate this law, not to talk of the effects of passive smoking
ReplyDeletehahahah yesterday i blazed weed about 2 wraps....on d hard street where are fashola agents to come get me ...cock n bull story....it wont work in lagos...come my area come see where people dey burn the sticks koro koro..na u go tire
ReplyDeleteWhen you are nabbed will you please do me a favour? Please comeback here and post your experience before going to jail.
DeleteVery useless law, the fumes from generators is a 100 times worst than cigarette and I knw almost every single house in lagos owns one. Even d smoke from heavy duty vehicles is by far more deadly than cigarette. D govt shud start by bannin gen and heavy duty vehicles if dey care about d people. Useless law, I wanna how dey r goin to enforce it, dey beta get ready to build more prisons.
ReplyDeleteMontana
Even developed countries ban smoking of cigarette in public places.. I really dont know your own problem. Smoke in public place na.. When them apprehend you.. Use agidi den present this your comment. Dey here dey para mumu para. Oshi!!
DeleteNice one Gov!!! Next area to stop all dis semi killing is in the clubs where all d windows are shut and u ve d silly AC cooling us with smoky air!!! Hiss!!!....if u like hate from here to hell fire were u can smoke ur fucking selves, dis law out is a good tin....the man isn't GOD, he has to start from somewhere than do notin at all.....if u want standby light dan direct ur comments to GEJ!!! Cuz who r we kidding! We all know dat its way outside wat Gov Fas can handle....its has to do more with his OGAs AT D TOP

'Second smoking is just as dangerous' so is the gbagaun in the first paragraph of this story.
ReplyDeleteAnywho, Fashola deserves a hug for this.
Nice development 4 lagos state
ReplyDeletePale
God bless governor fashola @ anizy
ReplyDeleteOhkay
ReplyDeleteI hope they also stop with the incessant smoke ads. It is/was insane.
ReplyDeletelagos has a lot of problems for smoking to be a priority now... there are other pressing issues at hand
ReplyDeleteSecond hand smoking is as dangerous as smoking the cig. I have a friend who puffs and blows the smoke on others face so they get to breath in the smoke and get intoxicated gradually without knowing.
ReplyDeleteso what will happen to TINUBU? #okbye
ReplyDeletePrimitive and senseless bill.Shey una support gay bill........haaahahhahhaah.I told you they won't stop at it.They will still make bills to restrain people frm giving birth to more than 5 children.Sounds cool because it helps stop d population frm explosing but....all des laws erode our fundamental freedom.Whether they sound moral or not
ReplyDeletei love this....this is very great development in Lagos State, also this will tend to cub all form of crime and many other activities related. kudoos to the best Gov of this Nation, Gov Babatunde Raji Fashola, a Governor that set pace 4 others to emulate.
ReplyDelete†Φ God be Ʈђε̲̣̣̣̥ glory, ℓ̊ love this............hope they'll be serious about Ȋ̝̊̅t̶̲̥̅̊.
ReplyDeleteWhat of vehicles wey dey scata smoke everywhere and factories wey dey release CO2 anyhow to the environment? I beg make una face the real issues for d state and country and not all these minor shits
ReplyDeleteIt's CO 'carbon monoxide'
Delete"No Smoking Law" - Dead on Arrival
ReplyDeleteFashola and plethoa of laws.. why not make efforts to enforce d ones already made.. else it would be as a toothless bulldog
ReplyDeleteWhat about all the locomotive trains emitting thick smoke?
ReplyDeleteDATS SO COOL
ReplyDeleteRight step in the right direction. Since we no get good hospitals, mke we. Focus on prevention. To all smokers, I know u must be pained bt be responsible and stop hurting urself and most especially innocent pple around where u smoke bcos they are more harmed than u that do the smoking. God bless Fashola!
ReplyDeleteGbam!
ReplyDeletei'm telling u it wouldnt really change anytin

ReplyDeleteWhao!!! Dats vry vry gud... Sounds to me like I won a lottery
ReplyDeleteIs there any other punishment apart from JAIL? Is there not anything they call Community service?
ReplyDeleteU go fear law, where the law maker himself is a criminal.... fashola himself is a mad smoker. I don hear oo, na to dey smoke 4 my room now oo.
ReplyDelete@dahmie4christ
I'm sorry but this is becoming really stupid. When did smoking become a problem?? Second hand smoke?? Then what about all those wretched buses pumping black fog into the air like they want to bring night early!
ReplyDeleteI still have to wake up almost 2hours early just to get to work, still buy more diesel in my gen than in my car! Please solve those ones 1st before these imaginary issues that you are concocting and stupid nigerians are swallowing. #slavementality
Fashola Thunder Fire U That's What I Have To say, As 4 U Linda 4 Not Posting My Comment I Don't Have Ur Time Until I set My Eyes On U!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay o! Next plz
ReplyDeleteY govt dey show power for consumers body? Dem no know where British American Tobacco dey? Baaaskaads!
ReplyDeleteBullshit!! Lasgidi solid, liquid and carbon pollution is way more destructive (health wise) than millions of smokers puffing. Carbon-monoxide kills in minutes (cars, trucks, factory, generator emissions), tobacco takes decades.
ReplyDeleteSmokers are liable to die young lolzzz oboy all those junky dem go feel am oo...#blackmamba...
ReplyDeleteI only smoke in the club to look cool..not an addict..Go bless fash
