Photos: Senator Magnus Abe shot as Rivers police disrupt APC rally

Senator Magnus Abe, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) and the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Tony Okocha were reportedly both hit with rubber bullets shot by Rivers police this morning Sunday January 12th during a political rally in Port Harcourt. (The senator pictured above in hospital after the shooting incident)

The Senator had led members of the Save Rivers Movement to a venue where a pro-APC rally was to hold, and the police fired rounds and released teargas in a bid to stop the event. Several people were wounded and have been reportedly transported to the hospital.

One of those wounded Tony Okocha said Rivers police was trying to militarize the state and blamed the attack on Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, who he claimed told police to stop the rally. Another pic of the wounded Senator after the cut...

    2. Don't mind APC pple, they make a lot of noise and lie a lot. Just about the lie one of them told the last time after he nearly used a MASE to kill someone. He ran to the hospital thereafter and started shouting that they wanted to kill him. Amaechi and his law makers along with his APC can't be trusted. Lie mohammed will soon appear with his demented lying face.

They've done me no wrong but , why all these talks here and there? APC has the right to do any rally. If truly truly GEJ wants to win he should stop Policemen from doing all these evil cos people are watching. If it's your destiny that you will run for presidency , you will WIN no matter what Mr President. Please let these things stop.

  67. On this to know the truth, police deny claims of using rubber bullets (can't trust police in Nigeria), doc said senator brought in for shock, will not confirm if senator shot, my conclusion?, senator not shot, probably tear gassed, Gov Ameachi media propanganda, aided by lazy copy and paste, corrupt section of old and new media. I pray someone video taped this on cell phone, anyway, Linda consider posting police and doc statements for your esteemed blog visitors to make an informed judgment. Best wishes.
