Aviation Minister Stella Oduah erases education references online after SR report

I saw the Sahara Reporters news yesterday but decided to leave it alone until the Minister responds to the allegations. And she has, by erasing her educational references online after SR's report hit the net.

According to the report by Sahara Reporters, Aviation Minister Stella Odua's Master's degree which she claimed to have obtained from St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, US and presented to the Senate in 2011 as a ministerial nominee, is fake, because the school does not offer graduate programs.

Sahara Reporters learned from the President of the college that it has never in its 125-year history had a graduate school or graduate program. The Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Vice President of Institutional Development said “We don’t offer any graduate programs here.”

Premium Times went digging and it looks like the allegation is true because by 4pm today, her profile page on Facebook was edited and all traces of St. Paul’s College was removed from the account. It was also removed from her Wikipedia page and her biography on the Ministry of Aviation website. See screen grabs after the cut...

Her Wikipedia page only says she received her Bachelors and Masters Degree (in Accounting and Business Administration respectively) in the United States, with no mention of what university.

Her FB profile pic with St Pauls

The edited version. No mention of St Pauls

    4. Seriously this comment left me dumbfounded. ..I cant even close my mouth...@with d kind of English she speaks...when did english lang fluency bcom a tool for measuring authentic certificates?...
No one is arguing wt u whether she is well educated or not...d question is did she bag a masters degree at St Pauls or not?...let me remind u dt at dis point it doesnt even matter if she actually has a masters cert or if she got it frm any oda schl, as far as its nt St Paul den der is much to be desired.
Ppl like u make us wonder wen dis country wl move forward...dis is simple n straight forward allegation/analysis and al we need is for the minister to say yes or no, but ur type keep seeing politics in everytin.

I feel so bad for GEJ, 2015 being so close, these dirts are unnecessary baggage. If I were him, to not loose her friendship for fundraising, id move her to a less noticeable, less exposed side of the govt. All these gaffes can stay there and if they come out, no major impact. Every business, govt does this. He should save himself the embarrassment. He shouldn't take the heat for someone else' s stupidity every time. Rigging the election or not, this is a bad reflection on him, his character as a person, as a leader. Smh

Its embarrassing but its pretty hard to disprove that, than lying about a school that doesn't even offer graduate classes. If truly she attended the school for her undergrad, she should know that. Arrrggghh, this woman will make me pop a vein. Im a woman and im extremely shocked at the stupidity of this woman. You couldn't do any better? Come up with a better lie or one that is hard to proof. 59. My dear Linda, don't allow the yoruba bigots to continue brainwashing you seriously. You've been very faithful to them so far, Nigeria is terribly corrupt and fact is getting rid of bad eggs while the hen (layer) is kept alive is only fruitile. Enugu airport is now of Int'l standards and some 'people' are sleepless for that reason. If you choose to toe the line of saboteurs for cheap fame and money's sake as some did in '67 it won't be of your interest. From the loss of Bakassi to June 12 and the current massacre of the Middle-beltans, sabotage does not pay. It's not about the news but the reason behind the news for an intelligent blogger.

  102. Anon 10.12, In the US, colleges and universities mean the same thing. So, a college can award masters and doctorate if it is accredited.

Regarding the topic, I am not surprised. Is it not Nigeria? Everyone forges their credibility. I'm sure this issue will soon die down - as usual. I only pray that things get better in this country.

  103. colleges in america offer masters programs...college in nija means secondary school, but in the us they are full fledged universities..its just a matter of semantics....

nigerian politicians are so corrupt..she probably doesnt even have a bachelors degree...what a shame!!! unqualified ppl at the helm of affairs..

  105. @Anon 10:12 PM. The issue is this: This lady claimed she has a Masters from St Paul's College. She LIED!!! That is the issue.
@Anon 10:12 PM, I know you the same as first 10.12 PM. It matters. Why claim you have a degree from a school that doesn't off that programme? You are the DUMB one!Trying to defend the indefensible. I am shaking my head for you!!!

  112. The Senate should summon her and evaluate her certificates and verify those bogus degrees. If you delete the school and still prove you have a masters degree you name the school and prove it. For the credibity of this government, she should be questioned and verified thoroughly if actually she deceived Nigerians the let her face the law like her predecessors. I'm Igbo, our Igbo brethren should take a break from tribal sentiments and let credibility and justice take it's cause. I don't support insincerity be it anybody, that's my take, Linda Nwa Ikeji have I spoken well? post oo.,

  113. This woman LIED! People do this kind of thing in Nigeria because they don't have shame. Salisu Buhari, former speaker of the House of Representative also LIED about his academic qualification and age, the young man contested and won election using a forged university degree certificate purportedly obtained from the University of Toronto, Canada. All he had was just a secondary certificate. He claimed he was 36 when he was actually 29 in 1999. That was what led to his down fall.

    Stella Oduah, please DISAPPEAR!

  117. Linda, get your facts right. There has never been any mention of St. Paul University on her Wikipedia page. You can actually check the changes that have been made to her wiki page since 2011 when the page was created and there was never any mention of St. Paul since creation of the page till date. I may not be a fan of the aviation minister but, it's good to get our facts right. She might not be the best of ministers but she has a few credits to her name.

  119. Please , let's focus on other stuffs...If she erased it then fine. Sahara reporters are just tools against GEJ! Is elrufai an honest man? does he have integrity? OLE PEOPLE!

    ReplyDelete
  120. We should learn not to jump into conclusion, let there be a public scrutiny of the media allegation, compare what she submitted to senate and past employment to what the institutions she claimed she attended would provide. If found guilty, those defending her or rationalizing such fraudulent act are in same shoe, but if not found guilty, Nigerians should let her me. Comment objectively without any sentiment.

  122. Unfortunate. However I disagree with the person writing that she is well spoken. Do you know how many people are well spoken yet have never seen the four walls of a university and how many people have been to universities especially in Nigeria and cannot utter complete sentences?

Oladejo WROTE "Agreed that if she has edited her profile on Wikipedia, I have gone through every history of editing on her profile and nothing related to the college has been updated on the website talk-less of editing. She might have forged her certificate as claimed by Sahara Reporters, but that college was never written on her profile. It was the scandal section that was deleted."

  127. First of all, you do not need a Masters degree to be the aviation minister. All of u throwing stones, please let her be. She is trying. Just let her be. Focus on d really corrupt ones. Whoever had time to go and be contacting the school, just had a malicious intent. If u can come back to say her degree is fake, then u'll have a story. Until then, Pls people shld focus on their lives and continue to pray for our country Nigeria.

  134. In Nigeria where PhD is employed as truck driver of a cement company, an impostor is a minister!
Just think of the thousands of genuine Masters degrees holders without any job today.
Is this nation fair to them?

Linda I hope you are don't as un inform about Wikipedia as most Nigerians are.. it a free encyclopedia can be add to and edit by any individual from any part of the world.. most of my class mate here have their profile added on it, I have an account and see no reason to do so, why staffs of Wikipedia take it upon their self to add profile of prominent members of the society, individual can also add profile of them self, I just check and discovered you are not on Wikipedia thought of adding you and but left it because I don't want to look like an hater, if I put fact that are not correct about you.. don't jump into conclusion from sahara we all know they are being sponsors .. let the Minister reply before joining politician that fighting for your pocket.. since their free income from subsidy has been stop by Okonjo wahala as the yorubas will call her
