Anti-gay law: Canadian Govt cancels President Jonathan’s state visit

Found this report on Sahara Reporters
A state visit being planned by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada for February has been canceled by the Canadian Government.
The cancellation happened in the same week it was revealed the President secretly signed a controversial law banning gays, lesbians, and sexual minorities in Nigeria.
Sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Ojo Madueke, was told to inform President Jonathan that the state visit to Canada scheduled for February 13 and 14th 2014 has now been canceled.

  2. Good. It is time Nigeria cut the strangulating umbilical cord with the imperialists. Stand on your laws and grow. Don't give in to colonial bullying.

  3. What is he doing in Canada? It's against African culture and religion to go to Canada. He should stay at home.

BTW, Western governments need to stop these people from coming to their countries for medical treatments and sending their children to Western schools.

  57. I might not like the way GEJ is running Nigeria but we are on the same page in this anti-gay law. They can't tell us what to do in our own sovereign nation, this is not the era of slave trade, let them control their serial killing with the guns and knives in their countries without meddling into another country's problem, we will now begin to listen to what they have in stock to offer. Oshinko!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. What GEJ government should have done was to ban same sex marriage, but give the gays/lesbians ther desired respect, acceptance and tolerance.

What makes u think that sending them to 14 years would stop them from been gay?

People will always say gays are evil, have u asked ursef, what about hermophrodites? People that were born with both Male and female sex organs, what do u have to say about them? Were they the ones that created themselves with two different sex organs of male and female? Lets be considerate abeg.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The should go to hell. Is Canada paradise

  62. So bcoz our president ban gay nd lesbian,na e de no wan am 2com canada,Let dem gerrout, dis is NIGERIA,dia mama

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nobody or country has any right to lock people in prison because of their own sexual choice on what they want to do with their own body. People have been defending this law with the case of been a Christian or Muslim but each person has the right to make their personal decision irrespective of any religion. The same Christianity forbids adultery and fornication so why are we not locking up people committing this acts or are we not going to face the same judgement. What is the difference between Nigeria and Boko Haram that is fighting against western education because of Islamic religious sentiments if the country is clamping down people based on the religious doctrines we perceive to be right. Open rehabilitation centers for Gays where they can help them to see light beyond their present practice but do not lock people up.

  68. Loool_sebi this our Nigeria ba? The same one that has been so rubbished by these men and have brought us to the point that we can't do without the USA and the rest of the "developed" world ba? E go take Gods' grace for this bill not to be revoked! Nija will soon bow to the "world leaders" out of fear..let's bet!
My own is,my Bible has already warned me about all these (men shall be lovers of themselves, people shall be more violent, there shall be natural disasters etc) as the end approaches! *scripture is simply being fulfilled and let all who have ear hear!*

    ReplyDelete
  69. They can cancel for all we care.We will not revert our decision

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes let them cancel it ,.anyway canada is not heaven,.by the grace of God I beiieve we will survive even without this visit, let them keep their technology and innovations to themselves,God is the master of all knowledge,I respect the gays and every other person but the anti gay law was signed because we also respect the word of God.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Abegi,na dem get us?why the force?aren't we a sovereign state?(A sovereign state is a nonphysical juridical entity of the
international legal system that is represented by a
centralized government that has supreme independent
authority over a geographic area.)why are they so much in our face on our domestic affairs? They should just simply grant asylum to any gay Nigerian that they feel is threatened by the law...

Do we (Nigeria) ever tell them how to run their countries?then why force their believes on us?we have the rights to choose our Laws and again, our Culture and Religion have stiffer believes about GAYs,we prefer God's order to their libral law for the ungodly,if it will happen, they should let us grow into it and not make us feel like Devils while honestly they are the Devils...

As for Gbemi Olateru and Linda's fear that 1s some1 points u out as gay our of hatred u will be imprisoned,I honestly do not believe that's how the law works,I believe there will still be prosecutions and a legal probe into such allegations.

A friend that is a medical personnel told me that been gay is a "psychiatric Medical Condition under sexual disorder" which means they can be fixed and YES maybe at the end of the day this might make Nigeria popular for something good, coz if they check themselves into a home the will get HELP...

    ReplyDelete
  73. To hell with them!
Is it by force to do what they are doing?
    They are mad!

    ReplyDelete
  106. We can never conform to their ways if they like they can expell all Nigerians from their country,no one tells a father d kind of rules he should have in his family, dis same people jail any1 who dares to marry two wives or is that one not someones fundamental human right too,pls we cry human right wen we want to justify our evil ways,a murderer or a homosexual r no different but I've not seen whr murderes r not punished or whr robbery r not jailed when caught, every normal person would find it not normal if their two male dogs decide to mate and we are human beings for Gods sake, wen God gave us d ten commandments he still knew that every1 of us will commit all those sins n even more but he did it anyway to let us know he hates all those sins, dis bill will not stop gays and lesbians from sleeping with each oda but seeing something wrong and not saying its wrong makes us dead morally, God has left d western world that is why they can see homosexuality as normal see that in Romans 1:24-27, if ur parents think that way u wouldn't be here screaming human rights, dis is rubbish!!!

    ReplyDelete

  141. In 1960 Nigeria got its independence from
Britain and 3 years after became a republic.this
    attainment of independence,made Nigeria a
country capable of making its own laws and
    constitutions.
The recent signing into law of the bill against
    same-sex marriage is higly commendable.Hom
osexuality is alien to our country Nigeria, its
against our religious and individual belives.
For in leviticus 20:13 it says"if a man lies with
a man as he lies with a woman, both have
committed an abomination, let them be put to
death and their blood shall be upon them".
The recent threats from the United
    states,Uk,european union and other western
countries to sanction and cut aid to Nigeria for
its stands against homosexuality its highly
preposterous.i and millions of other Nigerians
are standing up saying "YES YES YES" to the
signing of the bill baning same-sex marriage by
    our president Dr Goodluck jonathan.i
personally would like to eulogies countries like
    Russia,Cameroon,Uganda,Burundi
,Iran,Qatar,Jamica and now Nigeria for thier
bold step,in saying no to evil, immorality
,abomination and sacrilege,in the name of
    human rights.
We cant be intimidated into accepting things
that are against God,nature and humanity.

  164. This is the first time i'd comment on LIB and also the first time i'd commend GEJ ever but am doing this cos I feel very pissed, if the Canadian government actually cancelled the state visit for this reason. We do not support gays, lesbians etc. Our society abhors these acts. Let these western pressures stop. We are a sovereign country, who can make laws for ourselves.

  170. The bad news for APC is that the Canadian
government action may end up helping
Jonathan's image with Nigerians who tend to
rally around their president when he/she is
under siege from the outside. Good news for
Nigerians is that we are saved from another
wasteful trip by the president. Let me state
clearly here, the signing of that anti-gay
legislation by the president was wrong. The
president should have had the ball to veto it,
and allowed the house to override the veto if
they have the numbers. I will repeat it again,
you cannot legislate sexual morality between
consenting adults. Banning gay marriages by
the government is one thing but telling adults
who to love is a totally different ball game.
Laws in many instances are made to protect
minorities but sadly for us our legislators are
out to lunch on that one

    ReplyDelete
  171. We don't need them oh! And they should makesure their embassy is naija is closed down. The rest of the world, that are surporting gay we don't need anything from them. God is against it and so are we. God is have averything we need

  177. If they think Gay marriage is ok must it be ok in Nigeria too? To hell with their country, its even good sef! Let's look inward and develop our own country too! They've been breastfeeding us for too long and we can't remain toddlers for ever! 54yrs no be joke

    ReplyDelete
  178. gosh some nigerians are so narrow minded
religion should be separate from the law
    yes I'm a nigerian
    yes I'm a christian
yes i believe being gay is wrong and a sin
but prosecuting and throwing them in jail is wrong and against basic human rights
all you supporters of the bill then guess people should be arrested for adultery ,lying and all sort too shey u are justifying it by the bible
what happened to God is love and he without sin should cast the first stone….bunch of hypocrites mehn our leaders are very backward when we have bigger issues in big i say again religion should be separate from there law to an extent and this is from a female's perspective
