Anti-gay bill: US threatens to sanction Nigeria

The US has threatened to sanction Nigeria following President Jonathan’s signing of the Same-Sex Prohibition Act 2014. The world power is threatening to scale down its support for HIV/AIDS and anti-malaria programmes in Nigeria. This was made known yesterday Jan. 20th by James Entwistle, the US Ambassador to Nigeria.

Mr Entwistle said he was worried about "the implications of the anti-same sex marriage law which seems to restrict the fundamental rights of a section of the Nigerian population.”
"The issue of same-sex marriage was very controversial all over the world, including within  the United States where 17 states out of 50 had endorsed it, but others still reject its legality. The issue that we see and I am speaking as a friend of Nigeria is that as I read the bill, it looks to me that it puts significant restrictions on the freedoms of assembly and expression; in my opinion which applies especially in advanced democracies, once government begins to say something in these areas, freedom no longer applies. It seems to me that this is a very worrisome precedent.”

Freedom of expression and freedom of association goes a very long way interpret the desire of of humans. You made laws banning drugs particularly, cocaine, heroine etc. People desire to take these drugs as their bodies desire, why then do you ban these drugs? Don't you think you have restricted people from fulfilling their heart desires? Are you implying that drugs cause anti social vices? Have you considered the damages of same sex marriage in future child birth rate as man and man cannot reproduce children through natural means. Dear America, Lucifer has consumed you. Its truly mind boggling!
This bill was soooo unnecessary and pointless. Was anybody clamouring for legalization of gay marriages in the first place? Were gay people not living an underground life already? So why did the sudden urgency to intimidate them arise from? Have they endangered anybody's life? Are they directly linked to increase in crime rate?

So raiding people's houses and hotel rooms and imprisoning them for their sexual choices will solve all the nation's problems abi?
And the pathetic retards that are applauding this bill in the name of sodom and gomorrah blah blah blah...just remember that karma is a twisted bitch.

nigeria should be removed from international organizations like commonwealth, ECOWAS, UN,...we should even be banned from the olympics.

Every nigerian shld be denied visa to other countries, especially US, UK, and nigerians already residing there should be deported ASAP!

No foreign country will partake in any trade or foreign exchange with this dead country.

No foreign aids should be granted to nigeria.

Our tourism industry will collapse because prospective tourists will be scared off by our homophobic, ignorant, self righteous hypocrisy.

The world should completely isolate nigeria, and let them wallow in their ignorance. The long term effect is that our already shaky economy will sink even deeper underground. Unemployment, corruption, crime etc will be on the rise, and inadvertently affect you hypocrites.

Why is the gay issue so much a bother to them? How have they contributed or assisted in other issues affecting Nigeria & Africa? Why a trivial issue as gay?
This is Africa & we've got our values & principles...every other person should respect that. Why can't African leaders interfer in US gun-use issues. It is insane to Africans to allow people possess private guns, but why will we want to forcefully ask US govt to adopt our opinion!
Sorry if I'm biased but I've always seen US as a bully & a major cause of many wars in the world.

  130. I don't usually comment but I have to on this one.

WHO DOES THE US THINK THEY ARE? ABEG! They should keep their useless funding and we'll keep our crude oil. Is it not because of the funky leaders we have that we collect aid from them? The aid that still doesn't reach the people it's for, yet people are still thriving?

Nigeria is a sovereign state and as such we can make laws for ourselves without external interference. When they make laws that are unfavourable to immigrants, or make statements that continue to solidifiy a stereotype of Nigerians, do you hear us threatening to boycott them? MCHEEEWWW THEY SHOULD ALL HUG TRANSFORMER IN THEIR GOVERNMENT. AWON WERE RADA RADA

Afterall, many of us are yet to see or meet a gay person live. Yet suddenly, this bill is heaven sent, and will rid us of all our societal ills and woes??

    1. There is a difference between pedophilia and homosexuality. A child cannot consent to sex and should not be objectified. Let us not trivialize pedophilia please. It is a grave sin and causes a lot of difficulties for those of us working in the mental health field. Homosexuality may or may not be helped depending on the circumstances. Hence the reason why we have psychologists and psychiatrists as well as social workers etc. but many Nigerians don't care and would say to me to shut up stating I have googled what I practise up. If knowledge can't apply in little things , how would the country be able to run a knowledge based economy ?

Pls purnish our cursed government even more....,
Ordinarily THIS should'nt be a Governmental issue. Leave our CLERGYs to handle this issue. If churches would lack the FEAR of GOD to establish a union between two same sex individuals who in my opinion are worse than APES...,then thats the churches issue. Now if our useless #Government can hurriedly sign into execution these #Questionable Bill.....,then this #Cursed Government should also work hard to ensure that this #Cursed Nation survives on its OWN without interaction(assistance and association) with the #DEVELOPED WORLDS.When it comes to productive bills, #President and National Assembly go dey stall. You can imagine how quick our baised Government took into action this bill. Imagine it was the same for issues like....,
    -Developing this nation....,
-Bringing in all these heartless, corrupt, greedy POLITICAL LEADERS to their ovedued justice....,
-Stringent adherence to our civil requirements....,
    Key Question....,
Why didn't these cursed Government sign into action the ff...,
-No more interaction in any form with other WORLDS that practice this UNGODLY act....,
-Call back all Nigerians living, working and studying in these WORLDS...,
-Terminate all importation and exportation of goods and services....,
-Send all these foreigners residing in these cursed nation back to their country....,
-No more traveling to areas of the WORLD where such practices are allowed....and so on.
Nigerians will never do the NEEDFUL.....,
    what a CURSED NATION.....!
A cursed nation filled with individuals possessed with #SENTIMENTAL-FALLACIES.....!

    This is rubbish!

    ReplyDelete
  160. The US is withdrawing their AIDS support because it does not make sense to keep supporting. If gay men are the highest group of people affected by HIV/AIDS then it doesn't make sense for them to not have freedom of meeting or association. Who will educate them on safe sex practices when they can't even gather to be taught? The US is not advocating for the same sex marriage. They are not asking us to legalize fags marrying. They are simple asking us to allow fags be themselves. If is a violation of human rights to deny them that right. The fact is that we are not an independent nation like Russia, so saying no to the US is technically biting the finger that feeds you. They are free to go and leave us to function as an independent nation because that's the impression we are trying to give them.

I tink d only thing dat Wud solve all this rubbish is if nigeria declares itself a religious nation, not a circular nation, cos as it is, all our decision making is backed up by one religion or d oda, no Mata d decision. 175. THIS SAYS IT ALL

Archbishop Kaigama applauded President Jonathan’s signing of the Prohibition of Same-Sex Marriage Bill. Despite the signing the archbishop hoped that gays would not be discriminated against. “I don't imagine that because any body is gay he or she will be convicted,” he said. “The constitution is clear about this gay union is not allowed. It is not a crime to be gay but gay union is a crime.”

He added, “I will treat [a gay person] with great understanding and love, with great compassion.”
