Funmi Iyanda and Bisi Alimi re-unite at Polari First Book Prize 2013

Talk show host Funmi Iyanda attended the Polari First Book Prize Awards in London on Wednesday night with her dear friend, Bisi Alimi. Bisi is the openly gay Nigerian Funmi interviewed on her popular breakfast show, New Dawn, back in 2004 that got NTA to shut down her live shows.

Funmi showed support for the LGBT (Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transsexual) by attending the Polari awards which showcases the best in established, new and up-and-coming LGBT literary talent. More pics after the cut...

  25. Beautiful. Linda, you struck a blow for civilization and commonsense in being sympathetic to his plight. He did not create himself. People should not persecute gays. Being gay is as natural as being straight. If it is a minority orientation, so be it. It's not as small a minority as many suppose, as my handsome friend has discovered walking down the streets of Lagos. If we don't persecute the left-handed or the albino, why persecute the gay? Homophobia is on a par with racism. Bravo, Linda and Bisi.

They have already started enjoying their asylum while you are roting in Nigeria waiting to b blown up by boko haram. After ensuring that gay people are safe, we wld start a petition to stop haters like you from entering developed countries. Because your children grow up with all the hate you infuse in them and become terrorist so pls stay in ur skanky village and let that rich corrupt politicians keep taking your childs innocence so she can feed you while gay people here live safe, loving and normal life.

God made the anal muscle to push out things not to receive, so it is definitely not right to be gay. if you cant give birth by the process, then it isnt right. Anyone justifying it should wish it on their sons.

  47. I live abroad and I've colleagues at work who are gay (a guy and a lady). The lady is happily married to another lady.
Even though I'm not an advocate of homosexuality, I have nothing against them as they are very nice people. Who am I to be the Judge.
If Funmi is supporting them openly, I wont be surprised if she comes out soon.

  49. its her personal life. if she like she will support. don't hate what you don't understand. hypocrisy na e dey kill us for this naija. with all the moral rights we claim to have, the SINnators cant come up with a single law that will improve the lives of Nigerian. focus your energy on improving yourselves and not busy say rubbish about pple.. no wonder they said 75% of Nigerians are destitute. what are you guys doing to change that?
being gay does not in anyway affect you and i.
instead get yourselves busy with what is happening to tax payers money

  50. My thoughts on this gay issue: in as much as I believe firmly that being LGBT is biblically, morally, animalistically wrong, I have been thinking critically about whether or not it is right as a Christian to judge these people, not associate with them, criticise them, stigmatise them.. Well one thing I know for sure is they are humans as well and if funmi feels this is her way of showing human love to them, then so be it... More so, I believe they need to be prayed for more than anything cos they need deliverance, n yes shown love, if u can talk them out of it..help them, if u can't don't judge them, leave that to God.. cos we are humans n in no position whatsoever to judge. They most likely don't know Jesus, that's y dey believe in their unnatural sexual orientation.. I believe in standing for what is right, the truth and I don't support gay, in fact I detest it, but as christians one should pray for the grace not to sin against God by judging these people.. If u don't want to associate with them, fine, stay off..afterall one has a right to choose who to associate with..but remember it cud be your sibling or someone close to you. Pls let's be less judgemental especially of people like funmi who have chosen to associate with them like humans.. May God help us all..

    1. Very wise write-up, as a Christian, i believe in the scripture that says: Owe no man nothing except to love him, love your neighbors. My stand is as Jesus, i love the sinner but hates the sin. Jesus loved us even when we were sinners, dat love compelled him to die for us, He could nt behold our sins, but He loved us. So, i have been called to love all despite race, religion, sexual Orientation, language etc....but i dnt like n support their lifestyle....hate d sin, love d sinner

Being a parent is about raising a child with love and care n teaching them the right things in life. But with the amout of hate yall have, niggers b rasing a potential boko haram child.

There are more pressing problems in that country called Nigeria yet all you can obsess on is 'being gay is evil'. I now have a better understanding why the country is the way it is. the good news is gay people can seek asylum, the bad news is Nigeria cannot change any time soon and FYI the leaders are not just the problem. You are! Am out 4 now. Any one who dares insult me here is asking for what will come after. And guess what? Internet is 24/7 here and there is nothing like 'NEPA has taken the light' here so if you wnt to bring it on, I'm very ready for you. no work today so i have your time. And if i don't reply on time I'm probably out with my GAY friends having lots of fun lollllll

  58. As a young child, i understood the word 'Gay' to mean, merry, bright or happy, until i found out the same was being used for homosexuals (which for me is a more preferred word for such a debased act, as even animals would never turn on themselves in such manner) i still don't understand the joy or happiness in another man forcing his cock through another man's hairy ass!

  60. lol.....so you have lost respect for funmi and you think that will reduce her life span? you are a fool.....hypocrites thats all you nigerians are....so cos the guy is gay then the whole of nigeria should stop talking and communicating with him? how has she sold her soul to the devil? fools, you acan all hide in your closets and do abominable things but when someone come out clean you all start behaving holier than thou.....yes God hates homosexuality but he does not say they should be killed for it.....if that is their choice in life that is their choice and they will bear the consequences in hell fire like the bible says.....but for you all to think that nobody should interact with them cos they are gay is not only stupid but a huge joke.....

    ReplyDelete
  61. that is why nigeria will continue to be lagging behind cos of your stupid mentality......so cos she attended this program she has to be gay? fools, Nigerians who live abroad know they have to accept people as they are if not they would have all migrated back home abi? you don't have to like what they do to respect them, its called respect....that is why your leaders treat you supposedly self righteous people as trash and you all cant do anything about it....
