World’s biggest comedians storm Nigeria for Glo Laftafest

Two of America’s hottest comedians, Tony Roberts and Deeray Davis will team up with Africa’s hottest comedians including the continent’s number one rib-tickler, Ndumiso Lindi of South Africa, Uganda’s Salvado and A-list Nigerian comedians to give Nigerians a comic treat of a lifetime at the Glo mega Laftafest shows scheduled for Lagos and Abuja in October.

Aptly tagged Invasion LOL, this season’s Glo Laftafest has been rated as Nigeria’s greatest comedy shows of the year.

Other top-rated comedians slated to perform at the shows to be hosted by Basketmouth include Ali Baba, Bovi, Okey Bakassi, Akparoro, I Go Dye, Klint de Drunk, Buchi, Gordons, Funny Bone, Bash, Emeka Smith, Julius Agwu, Sim Card. Continue...



The comedy sessions will be spiced with the best of Nigerian music with first class acts like  Psquare, Lagbaja,  Flavour, Wande Coal, MI, Omawunmi, Burna Boy, Naeto C, Waje, Lynzz and Chee lined up to entertain guests at different intervals during the shows.

The tour will start with the two mega shows in Lagos and Abuja at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre on October 19 and the Thisday Dome on October 25. Other shows will be held at the Rochas Convention Centre, Owerri on November 3, Aztech Arcum Centre, Port Harcourt on November 10, Best Western Hotel, Benin City on November 17, Golden Royale Hotel, Enugu on November 24 and Nkweagu Ugbala Convention Centre, Abakaliki on December 1. Uyo, Asaba and Ibadan will host the shows respectively on December 8 at Amazing Grace Centre, on December 15 atOrchid Hotel Hall and on December 22 at Caso Lucio.

In a statement, Globacom said it scaled up this year’s Laftafest in order to spice the company’s 10th anniversary celebrations. 

"For us in Globacom, there is no limit to the extent we can go to delight our numerous subscribers. They have kept faith with us over the years.  We appreciate their loyalty, and want to reassure them that we will continue to delight them with our innovative products and services while also supporting their passion”, the statement signed by the company’s Group Chief Operating Officer, Mohamed Jameel, said.

According to Globacom, the shows are aimed at the company’s loyal subscribers who only need to recharge their phones with N1, 000 and text LOL Lagos or any other host city to a short code 33001.

Supremely talented and award winning Tony Roberts first stepped onto the stage at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, Michigan, USA. After Performing on BET's comic view, an impressed fan gave him a gold chain with a microphone on it.

He has appeared on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, BET's ComicView, and It's Showtime at the Apollo. In February 2006, Roberts was picked to participate in the HBOUS Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.

Roberts has performed his stand-up all over the world and was the recipient of the BET Robin Harris Award for Most Original Comic.

On his part, DeRay, also of the United States of America, won the Comedy Central Laugh Riots Competition and was the biggest hit on the Cedric the Entertainer Tour. Best known for his role as Ray-Ray the Hustle Guy in Barbershop and Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Davis has also appeared in other films, including Semi-Pro and 21 Jump Street. Davis' television roles and appearances have included programs such as Reno 911,BET's ComicView, MTV's Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out and 'Short Circuitz, and HBO's Entourage.

Ndumiso Lindi came into limelight in South Africa when he won the amateur category in the Red Bull Comedy All Stars Comedy Challenge. He has toured South Africa performing at the Barnyard Theatre Festival in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg and has shared the stage with local comedy stalwarts like Kurt Schoonraad, Mel Miller, Riaad Moosa, Dave Levinsohn, Cokey Falkow and David Kau. This rock-solid stand up act has come a long way in a short time, recently being chosen for the prestigious 46664 series of comedy shows, touring the arenas of South Africa, as well as several African countries, including Nigeria and Ghana.

Known for his trademark hat and funky urban stylish look, Ndumiso has headlined all the important stand-up gigs in South Africa.
