Stella Oduah's car purchase whistleblower being haunted by NCAA

NCAA is not even ashamed to do a press conference and say they are looking for the whistle blower who broke the story of the two BMW armoured cars bought for Aviation Minister, Ms. Stella Oduah valued at N225million. Instead of looking for the whistle-blower, shouldn't they be prosecuting someone or some people for fraud and extortion?

The DG of NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, said at a press conference which held yesterday Friday October 18th at the ministries HQ in Abuja, that the Federal Government was concerned about how the information got leaked to the public, saying that whoever leaked it committed a criminal offence.
“I am not saying that this particular information should not be put in the public domain, but how it was obtained is the concern. If somebody breaks into an office and makes copies of official documents, then the break-in has become criminal. So we are in the process of trying to find the source of this leakage and I am very concerned about it because this information may look trivial but there are other information that we have that are confidential and it is only fair for us to respect the confidentiality of information. I am not saying that they broke into our office, but they obtained the information illegally.”
“I am shell shocked that government information and particularly information from the civil aviation authority has gotten into public purview in an illegal manner. It is criminal! However, what has been done has been done, but I think when such information is gotten, you should have come to the agency to ask. We are not shy to take your questions.

"US whistle blower Snowden went on the run after putting such information in the public domain. The sources of the leak I don’t know, but yesterday, I issued a circular to all staff on this issue. I will read a little part of the circular: ‘Without prejudice to the nature and the purpose of this act, you should know that leakage and ultimate publication is a matter of great concern to the authority.’
The NCAA DG also tried to explain why ONLY two BMW cars cost N225million. He kinda blamed it on the car company, saying that it was bought from a company (Coscharis) which had no competitors in Nigeria. He said;
“First, each car that you buy nowadays has a customised aspect to it and this may impact on the price. The other factor is what I call the environmental situation. Yesterday, a gentleman from Britain met me and said the fares in this country on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are high. And he wondered why the situation had continued, but he said it was because Nigerians could  afford it.
“So the other aspect in this particular context is what I will call the monopolistic situation on these cars. Coscharis, as far as I understand, is about the only guy that sells BMW of this nature in Nigeria. If he is the only one selling, then you must buy from him if you want the car and he can name the price. So those are factors that may have resulted. But mind you, I am not holding brief for this. I do not know how much the cars cost and I cannot relate or answer the question on the actual cost of these cars. But were they budgeted for? Yes.”
Wow! So whatever Coscharis says is the price, you pay? Unbelievable! EFCC should get involved!

  10. So these band of thieving nitwits are more concerned about how the information leaked than they are about inveatigating, trying and prosecuting Mrs Stella Oduah and those who increased the actual cost of the vehicles to enrich their never filled-up purses?
Mrs Stella Oduah, bloody resign already, would you? Can't GEJ terminate this lady's appointment or something?
Well, they know Nigerians won't move a finger other than rant on dailies and blogs, they know Nigerians don't demand for accountability and are always gonna exhibit a high level of apathy towards issues like this, that's why they do the things they do.
    Such a shame!

  16. With due respect, it is a known fact that the average Nigerian is a criminal.
Moreso, if the civil servants were to live within their income, chances are that they will never own a building or good property to their names.
However, she should be prosecuted accordingly.
In my humble opinion, prosecuting her might not be successful coz illegally obtained evidence are admissible during trial but are later jettisoned for its illegality.

  21. You have also told us that corruption is legalized. That is why Nigeria s still where it is till date.

Children are on the streets,no work for the graduates, worst still our Aviation Industry is a nightmare. People are now afraid to board aircraft, the brave ones are losing their lives in it,bread winners are gone, fathers, mothers, future generations are all perishing in plane crash, yet they could afford #255million for cars just for one peron who should be sacked from office.

I really hope the EFCC are waiting to devour these criminals. No wonder she is not married. Materialistic woman.

  43. WTF!!! Does this mean the documentation, the check writing, and process of paying coscharis was done singlehandedly by one person such that it had to be a break and entry that yielded the information? If that is the case, the person who singlehandedly made a purchase with tax payers naira without going through the financial services and procurement departments for the parastatal should be arrested immediately as that is fraud. NONSENSE. How can one person be the check and balance, the law, and the pen in an entire agency?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Linda, nawa for you. I guess you do not know how much bullet proof cars cost. My only problem with all this is why they had to buy two. The average uncustomized BMW of that class cost about $130,000 to $200000 depending on how u customize it. If u want bullet proof, it could cost 3 to five times that depending on the level of armor. If u were in her shoes with all those enemies, would you not order one of those cars?

I am very certain Mrs Stella oduah will get away with dis scandal and particularly, I won't be caught surprise when it turns out so. every Nigerian politician or public office holder knows that we the masses are only good at making fuss and noise over improper public funds management and corruption without taking any serious action whatsoever in its regard. like when it was revealed that the president's meal allowance per annum is almost 1billion Naira, we all shouted and that was the end of it. not until laws like that practice in China where public officials are put to death if found guilty of corruption, Nigeria will still be living in her "stone age". 157. My people, all the ranting and bumbles end here. Come next election, the power belong to us. We must adequately profile every contestants. Any little of dishonestly is a no go for us. That's even a single trait. We must demand a concise debate. We must organize ourselves with a concise and firm organization. For this nation to change and see the desired results like developed nations, even common Ghana are now improving. We must take a stand and be firm. We bring this to ourselves already. The Change lie within ourselves and we have the power to make it Right. These Fools, thieves, incompetent, weak and dead brains, yes they deserve all those names and confirm need to be voted out of power. We must stand united for the common CHANGE. We are brother keepers and love your neighbors and yourselves is the words. May God bless us with a credible head, though we have to work. Lots of work. God bless Nigeria.

It should be our RIGHT from now on. It shouldn't be confidential. We must fight for this right to materialize. How can they ruling us without knowing how our money is being spent. The oil and every damn resources belong to the populace and the elected leaders are chosen to properly manage it. We need our RIGHT to every public spending. Never confidential.

  160. Where the police needs to go is the Ijebu axis in Ogun state . The number of armed robbers operating from there is just too enormous. They have made the Sagamu bypass of the Lagos - Ibadan expressway a very dangerous path. They rob people of their vehicles and them abduct them for hours in some thick bushes around Ijebu areas (Ososa , Sagamu etc ) , until they have sfaely moved the stolen vehicles away, before releasing their victims along the Sagamu - Benin expressway. Being stuck in vehiculat traffic around this area is full of life-threatening apprehensions, as the robbers could appear at any moment.

I was a victim , and have also heard several similar stories from some other victims. I believe the police stations around the Ijebu areas must have recieved several of such reports as well ; so what exactly have they done about the sitaution , if they are not abetting the crime.

  163. Fellow Nigerians,. one only has to drive the streets of Abuja to see how govt depts spend vast sums of money on cars. Examples are police and customs -> fantastic range of BMWs, ministry of agriculture - range rovers, state governors, senate president and house leader -MB600SL and so the list goes on and on. I guess we live in a very rich country with excellent schools, universities, hospitals, airports, roads, seaports, low unemployment, low crime, etc so we can afford to fund the lavish lifestyles of elected and public officials. So c'mon stop moaning and carrying on paying :-)!

  167. In my opinion, we will continue to see these ridiculous excesses and many many more will go undiscovered as long as people who have no business whatsoever in leadership continue to man the helm of affairs in our country. How does this person qualify to be a Minister of Aviation? “Plane crashes are an act of God”……no less!!! Does that sound like the thought-stream of a person intent on righting any wrongs in the aviation sector? Does she sound like she wants to leave the sector with any memorable developments? The whole country is filled with Minions like these in both government and private establishments. People with no formal training for, and no just claim to the positions they occupy. Everyday we see a new story in the banking sector, one ministry or the other, a government agency……has no-one noticed that these people all have one thing in common? Why then do people go through the pains of becoming experts in their various special fields of endeavor if all you really have to do is to know a few “right” people? There are scores of highly qualified people who can be Ministers of Aviation, Directors of various government agencies etc and who will be (more likely) inclined to have a desire to make a lasting impact in order to remain in reckoning long after they leave the service. We need to create a system that automatically “vomits” pegs that are not fashioned to fit into the appropriate holes. That may in the long run be the solution to incessant strikes, unrest and other manifestations of the widespread corruption we have come to accept as “our way”. -
