ReplyDeleteGreat ZIK of Africa! He belonged to the likes of Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello etc who had great visions for Nigeria and gave a lot to the country. One of them recently said that as a minister, he earned 800 pounds a year! But what do we have today? Visionless, treasury looters who have caused untold hardships to millions of Nigerians. God help us!
ReplyDelete800 pounds is same as 80k pounds now

ReplyDeleteZIK OF AFRICA!!! My hero! An architect of a Nigeria devoid of petty tribalism dat lunatics-cum-addicts propagate today like they r sowing seeds of opium and odium. Continue to RIP; ur name is too secured in the annals of African, world and human history as a foremost Pan-Africanist- as u treaded and transcended where ur contemporaries couldn't, cos they were focused on thr immediate regions...I saw the Official List of Africa's Greatest of the 20th Century, and except for ZIK, Awo and Bello weren't there...WHY? LESSON: Be just, be fair, be kind, be broadminded, eschew tribalism, nepotism, hate, jealousy/envy, wickedness, backbiting, etc. Long live d good men...may they live as long as The Great Zik did!! AMEN.

ReplyDeleteThis was how an African woman used to look like. Honestly, look at how beautiful she looked. No Brazillian hair, no fake eye lashes. Yet,an epitome of beauty. Well covered up and still beautiful. This is a reminder to all of us African women(especially Nigerian ladies). Let's cover it up and leave the rest to imagimation. Let's go back to our roots. May their souls rest in peace. Poppy.

ReplyDeletepretty wife'remembering those days
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can see in this picture is that even way back then some people like Zik enjoyed some level of comfort when some people were living in abject poverty. He was one of the stars in his own time.
ReplyDeleteActually both of the pictures are fabulous. Thanks linda for bringing me back to memory lane and reminding me of my beautiful heritage.
ReplyDeleteSome Of these comments are so ignorant . Why would you talk shit about what they wore in 1936? You better be a well known fashion icon where ever you come from ! Just IGNORANT -_-
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many gals could be dis beautiful on a digital camera,...dis woman was fine.
ReplyDeleteOmo dat wedding gown na die... D wife looks so lovely in d 2nd pic. Linda Linda, am praying for u, ur own husband shall come in God's time which is d best.
ReplyDeleteFF @hiflourish on twitter
NYC-1 says: Those of you praising Zik are ignorant, and only see things from peripherial point of view. You are like the mobs during Mark-Anthony's speech in "Julius Ceasar." Zik was more concern about building his own personal empire. I used to admire Zik too, until I read facts about his one-Nigeria slogan. Charity begins at home - what did Zik do for the Igbos? Awolowo was a better leader with foresights. The true leader of the Igbos was Ojukwu - this is why Zik and Ojukwu never crossed the same pathways. So stop all these fanfare about Zik. Zik was a selfish man, and only cared for his family and immediate glory.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I an concerned Flora was the only women he married in church. I am sure Uche a lovely women but she destroyed the family.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. First saw that picture in Zik's autobiography, MY ODYSSEY. How could people criticize her gown? The details don't appear in the picture. We can only tell it was white and long and had long sleeves. Thank you, again. They were both good looking and iconic.
ReplyDeleteNnamdi Azikiwe and Awolowo look alike. Cute photos
ReplyDeleteNice picture going down memory lane. Of course most of us nor our parents weren't born at the time of their wedding. Zik, the icon. I wish to state that while we eulogize (as accustomed with Nigerians for celebrating only the dead), it is important that we look forward to solving the challenges of the present day, take advantage of the opportunities before us, and press towards a brighter future. Its a completely different world from that Zik envisioned, thus the onus lies before us to make our time count. I believe this is what Zik would have wished for us all. God bless. O.J
ReplyDeleteNo be today Igbo women begin fine! omalicha rest in peace. Zik of Africa, rest in peace too.
