Chocolate City gets a Court Injunction against Brymo

Oh OK, now I see the reason for Brymo's tweets yesterday. He literally can't work as an artist until he sorts himself out with Choc City. Apparently his former record label Chocolate City through their law firm, L & A legal Consultants on Monday October 21st got an injunction against him, 'restraining him from recording, releasing, distributing any composition, song, musical works or carrying out any activity as a recording or performing artist through or for the benefit of any person or organisation other than Chocolate City pending the determination of the suit against him.

Chocolate City says Brymo's contract remains valid until 2016. Brymo is too talented not to work... please y'all should sort this out!

  17. That's why it's called a SIGNED CONTRACT.
It is legal and binding and the terms should strongly be adhered to.
How the he'll do u walk out on ur record label after they have invested millions on ur career and u expect that life would just go on like that.
No sentiments. The record company should do what they want jor!
I actually like Brymo's music and he's a cool dude but let this be a lesson to all of US that once you sign a contract, then u are bound by its terms until the time period has passed.
No be today Diddy dey carry him artistes go court and still dance with them in their videos after he has won the case. Lol.

Brymo, just endure until the contract is over and then port to wherever u feel will benefit u.

  21. That is why it is very important to read contracts before you sign it. Every artiste should have a lawyer represent them or business savvy individual to advice them before signing any kind of contract. Sadly most of them are just to eager to jump on the ship that they do not pay attention to what is being offered.

If his contract with Chocolate city is till 2016, they have every right to prevent him from working outside his contract. This was the same issue that Jeremiah Gyang had with them. Brymo should have been a little more patient and tactful in the way he handled his exit. It doesnt matter if the relationship is failing, try as much as possible not to burn bridges. The only way out for him is to buy out his contract or find some other kind of resolution.

Because he's made name for himself and he's d best among the rest of EME stars apart frm banky yet he stl settled with them! I dnt knw wht went down b/w brymo and choc buh truth be told, dis is d exact reason why upcoming acts ar nt signed! Bcos frm xperience, u see someone u picked up and made bcom so big to d extent of warring with u! Brymo shld remember wen he was sleeping in soundcity and begging Denrele to help him to tlk to M.I chill till 2016 and then dnt renew ur contract! That's why there's a contract! Dnt fucking breach it! This thing called loyalty is fucking hard to find these days! I love Brymo's songs but he needs to be civil in this situation!

It is what it is broda brymo... but Choc city needs to be careful sha cos naija no be yankee.... Na arrow from village go destroy una empire within seconds if brymo vex and involve "awon aiye".... ReplyDelete
  55. This is legally bad and wrong.
His is a service contract and the label can only sue for breach of contract not enforcement of the contract. Brymo should seek to set aside or counter sue under his fundamental human right!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ooh Jennifer, you got it all wrong. Its still a breach of contract suit. Sade Adu even had the same prblm and couldn't release an album/perform in concerts for 8 years simply because she refused to write her autobiography the way the recording label wanted it. These stuffs are kinda complicated and not as straight forward.

      Delete
    2. @Jennifer This is a breach of contract. What do u call releasing an album and putting it on iTunes without the concert of your record company. Brymo is an ungrateful twat and that's just the truth. Its funny how people are criticizing Choc City. Oya form ur own label, pay for ur artiste music video, their transportation, accommodation, give them the connections and a platform... then wait for them to tell you that "you can go to hell" that they want out of their contract. People just want an easy way out. Suck it up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The only way for Brymo to opt out of this contract with chocolate city is to buy out the contract. If not, he will not win the case even if he decides to go to a law court. His singnature on that contract letter is a documentary evidence to be used against him by chococity. My advise is for him to find a way to resolve the issue amicably with his employer.

    ReplyDelete

Wats happening 2 Brymo nw is exactly wat 50 cent did 2 Young Buck of G.Unit fame n 2day d young man is wasted n wallowing in debt n penury. 90. noooooo choc city pls dnt dp this to brymoooooo....

    ReplyDelete
  91. I don't think the matter is as bad for Brymo as it seems. There's a case in court and for good measure Chocolate City has also been granted and injunction that prevents Brymo from working as an artiste until the case is settled. That is obviously one-sided and Brymo can also counter-sue because he has basic rights! I hope he does that. Also, he needs to check if that injunction is for Brymo and then change his name. Even somethings as simple as 'The Artist Formerly Known As Brymo' will work. This can be resolved.
I am on Brymo's side here because this is just plain vindictiveness. You could make him pay you with every cent he has after he has lost the court case but instead Chocolate City believing they are the god that gave life to Brymo, wants to quench that life completely. If this guy commits suicide now how will the story sound?
Chocolate City must remember that fans, clients, and hopefully their own signees are watching as well. They are damaging their own reputation as much as they think they are hurting Brymo. Well, good luck with that.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I wonder how illiterates know how to post comments online. I think all these people supporting Brymo are as dumb and unrefined as he is

  101. This serves as lesson to all upcoming artistes..

    ReplyDelete
  102. I like Brymo. That being said, when you sign a contract you need to keep to it or go into arbitration.
    Good luck though

    ReplyDelete
  103. That's why its good to be smart, no one should compare him with Jesse Jagz, Jagz waited until the contract expired, to opt out, and Brymo followed suit? After signing the contract? Things do not happen that way, if he had issues with Chocolate city he would have settled this quietly or waited till the expiration of his contract to do so.., Nigeria is changing and we can not always be barbaric all the times.

Good luck to you Brymo, but I would advise you take this time to complete ur pending education at least you will gain a degree, and not lose out completely.

    That's my own 2 kobo.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I think the issue here is simple, you have a contract, you are not cool with some part of it or have issues with your label, instead of having a sit down and trashing out issues, you take to social media and believe that public opinion will help you walk away from the contract you signed and enjoyed its benefits. This is totally unacceptable.

I really like Brymo and the kind of music he does, but if I will be objective, I agree that it will be bad if any artiste can just up and walk away from a contract when he or she so desires. What then happens to a businessman who has invested money in your dream?

Music business is serious business as we are seeing the world over, the earlier artistes understand this the better. AUDU is not a father Christmas and would definitely want a return on his investment.

Brymo started the hardball game, he shouldn't cry foul now.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Faze and Ruggedman started this issue of jumping contract, where are they today?,career wise they are just there in Limbo!.Law of Karma work Our Artiste today are too greedy!,they don't want to share, its always me my myself and I forgetting the Record Label spend Millions to get their career to the point they get notice. The only way Nigerian Artiste think they can stay with a Label is when their career slow or did not pick up. Congrat to Choc. Nigerian Artiste should learn to honour their contract - Tony x. X

  114. Artists get bad record deals all the time and demand a restructuring when they rise in popularity. TLC had sold 10 million albums and were earning only $50K per group member a year from those proceeds. They filed bankruptcy, sued their record company, won a financial settlement and release from their management. Contracts have been broken and renegotiated when they're too strongly structured against successful artists.

  116. courts are very reluctant to grant injunctions. whatever judge gave this order must have seen that choc city had a good and or strong case thus necessitating the grant. a deal is a deal, you cant just opt out cuz you can't reach an understanding any longer. before you sign anything get a lawyer to read it, that's his job.
