The gold plated iPhone5 photo circulating online is fake!

The pic of the iPhone on the left has been circulated online with a few blogs alleging that the Federal Government has taken delivery of the 53 gold plated iPhones to celebrate Nigeria's 53rd anniversary tomorrow. I'm not particularly a fan of this government but photoshopping a pic to make a false story look true is probably not the way forward. The federal govt has denied ordering these phones, the UK company, Gold and Co of London, also denied and denounced the story.

Find the original photo and the Photoshopped version above. Reacting to the fake phone photo, Reno Omokri, Special Assistant (New Media) to the President said;
Let me make it clear that President Goodluck Jonathan is a simple man who has ensured that all independence anniversary celebrations under his watch have been low key inexpensive events in keeping with his policy of avoiding wasteful expenditures.
These stories and others like it are sponsored by those who would like to distract President Jonathan from the task of Transformation of which he has committed himself and this administration. It is a disservice to all of us if we sit back while these disgruntled elements get away with lies without exposing them and their cohorts.

  3. Its funny the length most people would go to tarnish the already tarnished image of GEJ's government.
    That's what you get when you make an indecisive weakling president:cheap shots from all and sundry.

    Although the pic here is photoshopped, I still do not deny the fact that those phones were made. It is only tomorrow we will all confirm if this story is true. However, knowing my government, they will carry out distribution of the phones in the most coded manner possible.

  12. As simple as he is he should also simply step down or act quickly in transforming Nigeria. I went into an argument with some Ghanaians who described Nigerians as being too corrupt nd unable to utilize the resources at their disposal. They also said Nigerians are the ones corrupting the Ghanaians. I tried my very best to voice out something good about Nigeria besides the highly overrated oil nd ges what nothing good actually came out. I love Nigeria to bits but we appoint the wrong people to handle the resources. Its high time we realise that we are the change Nigeria is looking for

  14. Please check @malivelihood page on instagram. He has pictures of the gold iphone 5 and he said its to celebrate the 53rd independence. And by the way which average Nigerian can afford a Gold plated iphone5 with the Nigerian Coat of Arms engraved at the back of the phone, except for the Oga's at the top in Federal Government

  15. The ineptitude of some people towards comprehension of the genuine-ness or otherwise of an inform is indeed absurding. No wonder their is a consensus on the fact that false news move fast like wide fire. I say this because while the rumour( which i believe is source from the opposition propaganda machinery) was making waves the Presidency issued a categorical statement dismissing such affirmation as falsehood and an intend to disparage his government effort in cutting frivolous expenditure. So please guys get your fact right before commenting on sensitive issues.

  30. Photo-shopped to show how the real ones look. Linda, distance yourself from these people or join them. The publication is correct and not false. The Independent of London did not totally deny the story. It later said an individual ordered the gold iphones and not FGN. Omokri is a liar. Publish this comment ooo.

  36. Please go to apple Uk's website as at the day the phone was announced 53 were ordered by the federal govt, it was leaked as a PR stunt for the phone, and was later deleted from the site. I trust apple way more than our govt, so there's no point in this
