Teenage stowaway gets scholarship from Edo State Governor

I'm sure by now you all know who Daniel Oikhena is. (Refresh your memory HERE). Daniel and the the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, George Uriesi (pictured right) paid a courtesy visit to Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole yesterday Wednesday Sept. 11th.

Governor Oshiomhole said the government will support Daniel by sending him to one of the top schools in the state. He said:
“Without meaning to encourage anyone else, we decided to support him by sending him to one of the top secondary schools in Edo State that is owned by the Government. The reason for opting for a boarding school is that we think that there is need to closely watch him which his parents could not do. He is an intelligent young man with uncommon challenges, but one that has a vision. We had him examined by people who should know and the result confirmed that he is normal"
Really happy for this young man...

Oh but ofcourse Nigerians abuse every single thing...Another young man (27 years) was arrested for the same crime barely 3weeks after Daniel was Arrested,@ the same spot, same Airport ...Am not saying trying to encourage the young boy is bad am just saying Nigerians will Always be Nigerians,so they shouldn't be surprised if similar development keeps Occuring L0L

  20. Lets set all sentiments aside and agree that this boy committed a crime. If we decided to listen to every sad story of every criminal in Nigeria, then robbers and rapists would be on scholarships across Nigeria today. What if he had a bomb attached to his body when got on that plane? Would we still care about the fact that his parents mistreated him? What message are we giving to other young men out there? If you want free education commit a major offence? We glorify corruption, terrorism, militancy, fraud and so many other vices, yet we turn around and cry wolf when others condemn our country.

    1. With due respect sir, I guess u are wrong in comparing Danails case with this ur essay, A 13 yrs old boy travel 4rm Benin to Lagos under the tire of a plane without any bad intention but for his survivaL you said he committed a crime, what crime did he comitte,in the process how many people did he kill nd whose stuff did he steal,U want them to jail him, for what? Do u think that boy is an ordinally human? If only the bad people had use him then u will surely know if u will be saying all this, may be he would have been Anini the second but thank the good lord for the Governor who is being the good Gov. Danny boy hope to see u become more greater than this in a good way, may the Blessed Mary, her son Jesus Christ and all the angels in heaven be with u always Amen.LINCHUK

  30. No scholarship was given to me when I carried out smililar act to that of Daniel Ohikhena, the Edo boy who flew arik air flight. Back in primary school, class 2 to be precise. My seatmate Ngozi came to school with a matches box. While the class was going on, she brought it out and called my attention to it. To me it was interesting to see her with a matches box in class. She gave it to me and I stroke one, the smoke was all over me and her. I tried to hold the smoke from spreading while made effort to cover the smoke but to no avail. My teacher, anty Gusupre screamed fire! fire! When she noticed it, other teachers gathered and the entire class scampered for their precious lives. I was taken to the proprietress' office for interogation and why I wanted to set the entire school ablaze. I reigned that term because I was seen as a terrorist in school for helping Ngozi strike a match stick. If I were given a scholarship to run a fire and safety program, I would have been a great asset to the country on fire and safety management but I am here perusing my university certificate without a job. I am calling on the govt to see me out of joblessness or better still, I will still appreciate if I am sent abroad to fulfil my fire and safety program. Lol but am serios.

  32. Moral of d story- u hv to become deadly to get any attention from any level of govt in Nigeria. I remember militants were granted amnesty and billions of contracts followed. Same 4 Boko Haram. Its dis kind of thing dat makes an Hausa man to shout: Haba!
As it is now, it is illegal, in fact criminal to be law abiding in Nigeria. And we shall reap what we sow.

  57. Hummmm,we have been hearing different stories about this boy,i thought they said Osun state Government gave him scholarship outta the country? what happened to tha, well he is a celeb right? I respect the lil boys courage, he deserves a world record, but honestly on the part of arik airline, they really need to check their security unit, which I fink is very pourous, imagine if that dude was asked to plant a bomb in the aircraft ,all the passengers would have been dead by now, they would have been history.now this would have gave the BH an insight of how to plant a bomb in an aircraft.so they need to be more watchful now.as for me arik airline is a No no no for me from now on .I flew with arik from asaba - lagos to and fro few months ago.that would prolly be the last.they AC weren't even working sef so whats the point maybe they didn't have a enuf gas Lolsss,i was hot like shit all thru the flight.i was almost tempted to open the windows to get some fresh air Lolsssssss.

anyway that dude had some balls I swear to do what he did thank God he didn't die.if he tries it again. he wont be lucky I swear!! M.U.S

  76. Imho this is nonsense. I don't get the Nigerian mentality of rewarding those that are breaking the Law, all in the name of "talent"
There are lots of truly talented youths out there that are never rewarded for hard work. What is intelligent about stowing away in an aircraft? If indeed it was going to America as he thought, the cold and Hypoxia would have killed him since he wouldn't have been in the climate controlled cabin at over 35000 feet. He only survived this one cos for a short, local flight jets don't go too high up. Stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  93. This is why Nigeria cannot be redeemed, this boy is a criminal and deserves to be punished as a deterrent for other truants like him, instead he is rewarded with a scholarship while other hardworking boys from poor homes continue to languish without hope and without help from anybody. This just show how decadent Nigeria society has become.
I can't wait to see the doom day come upon this terrible country called Nigeria

  102. Dear Ms Ikeji

i think this should be condemned, how can a society reward a kid who has committed a crime, the plane could have crash landed or anything could have happened to the landing gear, it's not like he cracked a major code or hacked into a top government data base where by he's ingenuity can be made useful or positive...now other kids will follow suit. The boy is NOT a genius in any way he's a criminal, period!!!.

PS: I don't care if you publish my comment or not, it doesn't bother me, if you can publish 'am the first to comment' from time wasters then, who am i ....
