Ribadu blasts ex-IGP Okiro, describes him as corrupt, 'shameless'

Former EFCC chairman Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has responded to former Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro who said yesterday that Ribadu lied when he claimed that he (Okiro) was behind two assassination attempt on his life and not Ibori. Okiro said in a statement released yesterday that Ribadu is an inveterate liar and desperately wanted to be IG. Ribadu has responded to Okiro, calling him corrupt and a shameless liar. See his press statement below...
Our attention has been drawn to the shameless lies a former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro recklessly spewed to the media yesterday. The cause of Mr. Okiro's anger, the statement, in a London court, by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu that James Ibori was instrumental to his emergence as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) needs no further equivocation as it was an open secret to everybody in the government circle then. If Okiro is now denying this in public, there is no way he can deny this open secret to a number of people including an influential governor from the North-Central then, and a couple of other people who helped facilitate his selection by Ibori. It was this same shameless method of desperate lobbying that Okiro, a chronic political jobber and sycophant of the first order would use in getting subsequent appointments as Chief Security Officer to the PDP national chairman and later, regrettably, as the chairman of the Police Service Commission.

The assertion by Okiro that Ribadu wanted to be the IGP further underlines the former IGP as a perennial peddler of falsehood. The truth is Nuhu Ribadu's focus then was consolidating on his modest efforts at the EFCC, especially at a time when he was working on high-profile cases, including that of Okiro's godfather, James Ibori. We therefore challenge Okiro to name those people he called Ribadu's friends that narrated the fictitious story of Ribadu's interest in becoming the IGP to him.

The highest distortion in Okiro's statement, however, is his attempt to rewrite the well-known and widely documented assassination attempts on the former EFCC chairman, and Okiro's hand in it all. It is ridiculous that Okiro is now desperately trying to paint himself in another colour after all the schemings he orchestrated. It beats our imagination that Okiro would want a Nuhu Ribadu he was fighting to destroy to report those incidences to him. It would have been a case of having a culprit to be a judge in his own case. At the time, the trio of Micheal Aondoakaa, the former Attorney General of the Federation, Okiro and Mrs Farida Waziri, the former EFCc chairman, had created a hell out of the world for Ribadu. The only sensible thing to do was to avoid these characters and seek solace somewhere else. This notwithstanding, it is a blatant lie that Okiro telephoned Ribadu "several times" but that he did not answer his calls. What Ribadu and other Nigerians easily recall was an elated Okiro rushing to address the press to deny something he knew nothing about. The bullet-riddled car Ribadu drove during that unfortunate life threatening incident is still there, if Okiro or any other person would want further proof.

On the issue of withdrawal of Ribadu's personal security, if Okiro is suffering from selective amnesia, let him be reminded that that was exactly what he did. He also redeployed Ibrahim Lamorde out of EFCC, to Bauchi State Police Command as Area Commander in Ningi. He did the same thing to other top EFCC operatives that Nigeria spent a fortune to train as investigators. One of them suspected to be close to Ribadu was even locked up for months in police custody. This also belie his statement that as IGP he could not have altered the postings of police within the EFCC.
As for Okiro's corruption credentials, we would like to alert the retired IGP that he is dancing naked in the gallery as his nasty record is something known to a lot of people. A man who clearly reeks of corruption, is Okiro denying that he is corrupt when we all know he cannot account for the source of the wealth he used in building a shopping mall in Jabi, a hotel with casino in Lugbe and a private school, all in Abuja? This is not to mention his property in Lagos and Port Harcourt, while he was still serving in the police. If a public servant, one tasked with the responsibility of protecting the lives of Nigerians and instilling discipline in the police, managed to amass such wealth, what gut does he have to talk of corruption?  It is a national tragedy that a man of such flawed character has now been appointed to head an important institution like the Police Service Commission. May God rescue Nigeria

  14. Baba Okiro, over to you. Mention Ribadu's properties which he aquired with stolen fund. Men like Okiro is the singular reason that Nigeria cannot move forward. They are high, connected, rich, foolish, greedy and very corrupt. The country's resources and opportunities revolves around them and thesame country's space they have completely poluted with their droppings stinking to devil's hell. In their fury to get rid of Ribadu, they chased him everywhere including the prestigous NIPSS on his graduation day. They weaved conspirations and counter accusations until the young man took to self exile for his life's sake. But he is here again with name calling as if to say he is a super corp with all the atrocities that went under his watch as IG. How many murders did he unravel as the IG and how many highly placed criminals did he prosecute as IG? But he was smart enough to send Police lawyers to court to attempt to prosecute the only Police officer who was making some genuine efforts at fighting financial crime in all nooks and cranies of Nigeria. Okiro should hug a wet transformer abeg!

We have all forgotten how Okiro rail roaded him out of office just to stall all those high profile prosecutions at that time. A man who could resist a bribe of $15m is not an ordinary entity in todays 9ja. Okiro has been exposed for the ccriminal that he is. Let him tell us what Ribadu has stolen...awon oloriburuku. 34. Ribadu is known for calling everybody corrupt save himself...
    Typical...
    That doesn't exonerate Okiro, though...
Ribadu is garrulous, talks more than he thinks or acts, always playing to the gallery...
He once called Bola Tinubu the most corrupt man that ever walked Nigerian soil, only to recant on national television when Tinubu offered him the ACN platform to run for Aso Rock in 2011...
Guess he never knew Tinubu wanted to sew up his loquacious buccal cavity permanently.
Guess he never knew that Tinubu, who had struck a deal with Goodluck Jonathan then to yield up the southwest to him, was only messing up with his head, intent also to mess him up for all time..
When the chips were down, Ribadu discovered too late he had been all alone all the while; littered like a desperate orphan in the lurch...

  35. Okiro is a big thief. I know his shopping mall at Jabi in Abuja. I wept for this nation when I saw it because where will a police officer get billions of naira to build such a mall. The only answer is corruption. God help us!

  38. Ribabdu is even more corrupt than okiro. Ribadu pls tell us what happened to 15m$ ibori gave to you as bribe. You only snapped d picture and took the money to CBN, but now the money cannt be accounted for. Who r u fooling?? Farida waziri said that all the billions you recovered could not be accounted for and none was deposited in efcc account so pls stop making noise. Okiro has been commissioner of police in so many states b4 becoming IGP so there is no doubt he ought to hv some property. Ribadu should tell us what happened to all the money he recovered and the 15m$ ibori gave him as CBN could not also account for it.

  39. We knew this all along that Okiro is corrupt. All the Ribadu must go for a compulsory course abroad, Ribadu's demotion etc it was obvious. I taught it was a revenge for how Tafa Balogun his former boss who was jail for corruption. Now that Ribadu is out of EFCC and EFCC is technically dead, It makes the political leaders happy. Bye to fight against corruption and all of OBJ's effort.

  44. @ Adeniyi Opemipo, if Ribadu is corrupt as you're trying to tell us via your comments, then let them publish his facts. And if you that's talking have facts to show he's not a saint, then let's have it too.

Please stop asking those stupid questions implying no one can be a saint in government because you're one of the corrupt many. U guys telling Ribadu to keep quiet should shut your traps and let Ribadu be.
