Nigerian Stowaway boy handed over to Edo state officials

Daniel Oikhena, the 14 year old stowaway who flew an Arik flight from Benin to Lagos in the plane's Tyre compartment was Today September 3rd handed over to the Edo state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Benin by operatives of Eo state Command of the Department of State Security Services (DSS).

Journalists and family members, including his mother, Mrs Evelyn Oikhena were however denied access to the boy at the DSS office in Benin City. Also, efforts made by Mrs. Oikhena at the Ministry of Women Affairs to see her son were rebuffed by the Ministry officials.

At the premises of the Ministry, Mrs. Oikhena lamented, “I was not allowed to see my son at the SSS office when I was told he was there. I went there but they said they have taken him to the Ministry of Women Affairs. I was given a number to call but I have been calling the number but no response. I asked some body they told me he is not here but they told me he is here. So I am waiting to hear from them. I missed my son and I want to see him,”she said.

At the time of this report the Ministry was making arrangement for the boy to meet with Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev.David Ugolor, has commended the DSS for releasing the boy and appealed to good spirited Nigerians to assist him in his education. (PM News)

  20. The boy acted like a criminal...Why all the paparazzi...He should be sent to the remand home for boys at Oregun. This kind of child can aid in a robbery in a bid to "survive".Wht if he entered a place in the plane which could have endangered the lifes of people on board or he caused an accident?.Please Nigerians should drop their sentimental attitude and ensure he is corrected for this wrong doing

    1. True talk o!What d child did was illegal as much as we want to praise him for that act,we shud also assist him and help change his way of thinking..Not necessarily arresting d child but he shud be brought in for counselling and otherwise.

  40. Now let me at dis point comment of this boy's issue, since his story started making rounds in d media I haven't commented on it save now; the boy in question has traits of a genuis and a determined spirit to succeed, the truth is that all great people/achievers in life are risk takers and people who understands the term "Breaking the Rules/ riding against the tide", and dis young lad is one, but now the ball is at d court of the government to either make him a profitable tool to them by giving him a great education and sharpening his skills,or leaving him to fate at their own detriment, he can as well grow into a smart robber, fraudster or Con man and them would become a terror to the society, the choice is theirs! Taking him from one office to the other and all these media bruhaha isn't what he needs now, the government take a positive Resolve on him now! Enough said.

  77. Dis's serious, the last plane crash that happened in dis country who knows the source,we shld stop encounraging oda young pple out there for dis awful act by saying they shld do dis and dat 4 d boy,the boy is so mean dat he didn't even think about his mother b4 doing such thing, seriously he needs real counselling

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hate to hear people say that what this boy did is a criminal act,if read in one of today's daily Vanguard to be precise, the father of the boy has appeared and it seems there is a problem between the mother and the father due to financial constraints, the father had asked the mother to follow him and children to move to the cheaper part of the town where they can afford the house rent, this little boy must have experienced some level of poverty that made him to believe that going to America will solve their family problem. He was just naive.because if he had known that his adventure was a dangerous one he couldn't have tried it.Anybody that have experienced poverty very well will not blame this boy.
