SSS grills the mother of the boy found under Arik plane tyre hole

According to a report by Punch, the mother of the 14-year-old boy who successfully flew in the tyre compartment a Lagos-bound Arik flight from Benin airport on Saturday morning, was yesterday Monday August 26th grilled for hours by a combined team of security operatives from the Department of State Security Service and aviation security.

The mother, Evelyn Ohikhena said:
“My son answers Daniel in school and Ricky at home. I went to my elder sister’s place who put to bed and when I got home the next morning (Saturday), I couldn’t find him. My daughter told me that they quarrelled in the night because he woke at midnight to watch movies and she told him to stop watching movie in the night and she said he eventually slept in the parlour while she said she went back to sleep in the room.
“One of his younger brothers said he saw him remove all his school books from his bag; so I asked my neighbours whether any of them saw him and they told me that at around 5 to 6 am, they heard sounds that somebody was opening the gate but never thought it was my son. He doesn’t go out. What I know is that he is always watching films in the house but he doesn’t have friends.

“I went to Oba Market police station, they referred me to Evbuotubu police station, when I got there they said they will declare him missing after 24 hours and that I should come back the next day.”

Speaking on the type of person her son is, Evelyn said,
“He is always at home, I have never seen anybody come to look for him and he doesn’t have friends. I am begging the government to help me, because I have never been to the airport before, I have been to Lagos before so they should help me. I don’t know how he managed to get there but I just thank God that he is alive.

    3. The avsec security ppl at the airports are a group of very weak, unfit and silly people!!! I'm sure that they were busy begging for money from passengers, that made them miss the little boy!!! The avsec officials at the arik terminal in lagos are just the height of incompetence!!! They are professional beggars,I have no respect for them!!

  13. Its clear he learnt those moves from watching movies.
Its possible he fled home because of some form of maltreatment.
Whatever the case may be,dude is super brave and will make it big in life if he continues to use such determination he devised in getting aboard that plane.
I just hope the SSS let him go with a warning and not reprimand him in a juvenile deliquency over this.
And as for his mum,its a huge failure on her part.
Parental neglect is reason for a lot of child misbehaviors today.

I'm sure they ve always assumed he was just a gentle easy going lad. Don't be fooled; calmness in a juvenile at home and in schl is a sign of trouble.

Lastly, those responsible for this laspe should take a cue and put all necessary checks in place to avoid any future occurrence. Imagine that he planned to bomb the plane. This he would have done with ease. A word is enough for the wise. I rest my case...

Inuwa Abdulkadir the estrange sacked Minister since assume office as Youth Minister has nothing to take to the shelve of achievement "that's if any ever existed in his entire career", while he held sway as Minister of the Federal Republic. I vividly recall when Bolaji Abdullahi who is now Sports Minister was in charge of Youth Ministry, he brought in creative minds and young intellectuals who's ideas he worked upon and was able to achieve so much during his little stay as Youth Minister and I can bluntly say all the programmes initiated by Bolaji while in office was all messed up after he hand over the baton of office to Inuwa Abdulkadir. However the Ministry suffered a huge setback due to his inability to initiate programmes that will impact in the lives of our dear Youth, not even the programmes he met in office was he able to work on talk more of initiating a new one. Ask me again and i'll give you a thousand and one reasons why Inuwa Abdulkadir's sack by Mr. President was on point.

  95. Let's be objective with our comments as parents/brothers we should not idealise the young boys' act as heroic, he put the lives of everyone on board that plane at risk, it is no news that our territorial borders are porous say less our airport.
The bulk of the blame should go to FAAN, the airline and the security agents at the airports.
Imagine a scenario where the landing gear got stuck killing the boy and forcing the plane to make an emergency belly landing. Needless to say that this would become a totally different issue from what we all are discussing.

  115. The boy watches alot of movies and sure he's addicted to the action and all the stunt. jst like an 8 year old boy who shot his grandma. This is a big lesson to parent who allow their kids to do what they like without control.

  116. The moment they free that boy, US govt will take him and turn him into smthng. Then, we will start paying for his ingenuity and bravery instead of them paying us.

  118. This guy is a genius and I won't be surprised if the American government adopts him and recruits him into one of its security agency. Let the security men and FAAN official keep their mouths shut! Shame on them!

  125. I see no reason why the mother should be accused of neglecting or maltreating d guy. she went to assist her sister with delivery. obviously, she could not go with her entire family. several times have we had to stay back home with a neighbor o a maid because our parents had to gout somewhere and couldn't take us along. this was just one such occasion. its perfectly normal. the factors to be considered are one, the fact that the guy is antisocial. no known friends or visitors, yet he is a student. was he being bullied at school or did he just feel out of place amongst his peers? why doesn't he have friends? lack of peer involvement could hinder positive growth. Second, he likes watching movies. what kind of movies does he have preference for and why does he like such movies? does he get parental guidance when watching them? does he try to emulate what he sees on tv or in the movies?.....obviously, he does. he probably saw that stunt in one of the movies and decided to act it out. he saw an opportunity where his mum wasn't in, and he acted fast. his sister stopped him from watching a movie at a time of his choice, and he decided to leave. what was he running away from? his school, the community, his home, or himself? if he did not have friends, it means he was a loner at school, he felt out of place in the community, and he felt his family did not understand him (because they kept stopping him from watching movies, (a hobby he found comforting). thirdly, lack of proper supervision by the airport authority.
the mother may have seen the signs but could not decipher it.
would you say the Nigerian guy who was arrested for attempted suicide bombing sometime in 2009/2010/2011 was maltreated or neglected by his parents?
he watches movies a lot. its where he finds peace. he enjoys what he sees on the screen, and he thinks it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it himself. in as much as the media is good, we all know that it has its own disadvantages. comparing the youth of this year to those of 10years ago, we would spot a huge difference. a large percentage of the causal effect would point at the media. through the media, we adopt other country's cultures & traditions, we also learn violence and aggression, amongst a list of other things. this dude may have learnt a little bit of action....a little bit of survival. it was stored in is subconscious. the catalyst was simple. his sister stopped him from watching tv when he wanted to. his mum wasn't home. he sprang into action.
but really, think of it... a teenager with no friends always watching movies even till the dead of the night.

  126. They should free the boy joor , wetin dem look wey e take pass dem reach plane tyre ..Naija with their rubbish sha..And we get security for airport..

  127. Hopefully Boko Haram members don't read newspapers or blogs cos this can give them ideas. The boy just confirmed how easy it is to circumvent airport security.
BTW should a 14 year old know all the international airports in Naija??
