    6. If she's married to the white guy, then she's a big hypocrite. How can she say black women lack self esteem because they don't feel confident wearing their Natura hair but here she is sucking the face of one, phucking one and even married him. I loved me some Ms. Adichie but kettle and pot love... glass houses and stones...

  6. Good to see real talent celebrated.
Chimamanda is perhaps one of Africa's finest contemporary writers.
Its too early to start calling her 'best',that would be pure disrespect to the memories of Ngugi Thiongo,Chinua Achebe,Sly Cheeney Coker, etc.

    1. Chinua Achebe et al are not "contemporary"

    2. Anon 3:59,instead of reading someone's comments carefully and understanding it,u just jumped into conclusion.Mich didn't say Chinua Achebe et Al were contemporary,he clearly made to separate statements there.the 2nd statement was used to further buttress the first.

  19. Any time I hear this Name "CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE" am always happy, I wish am her husband. Despite her Fame and recognision in the society,
she is still as humble and lovely as Virgin Mary. Unlike those who always seek for attention all the time.

  29. I used to like her but I realised that she has this in better than everyone thing going. And she's a tribalist. Also she tries to make it seem that everythong is non African. These days u hear people condemning those who use weaves. Also her books make it seem like u can do wrong and get away with it. For instance olanna sleeping with Richard and not suffering any consequences. Then the babe in anericanah whats her name and the dude. Cant belive I have forgotten their names. Anyways the girl got guy despite the fact that what she did was steal another mans wife. But her b ook made it seem like it wasnt a bad thing

  35. @Soul- look very well. The man she is married to is bi-racial (aka mixed race, or if you prefer 'half-caste, or mulatto'). So I really fail to see your point about her being hypocritical. And as far as I can see I really don't understand what being married to a man of any race has to do with self esteem or hair issues. Just sayin'.

  47. @ Anon 2:54 did you read the same Americannah we all read? HA!
@ Anon 4:22 I understand you. I too had a vile taste in my mouth after reading Americannah...It brought memories of Kambili's dad in Purple Hibiscus,Olanna and Richard in HOAYS, one funny girl in the thing around your neck ( hes was a lesbian thingy) and then Ifemelu who decided to cut Richard out after she carried out an act of a sexual nature with the oyibo man she went to help to "relax" and then came back to Nigeria to scatter Obinze's marriage.
It's like Chimamanda celebrates the immoral. Why can her books not be about glorifying good deeds? What message is she trying to put out there? I also USED to like her, have all her books to date, HARDCOVER too except for the thing around your neck which is paper back.
Now, she comes off as cocky in her interviews and too highly strung! Its nice to see a celebrated person who's comfy in her own skin, who is relaxed and easy to deal with. She has this off limits vibe going and anyway, I've stopped liking her! END OF RANT! #OKBYE

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is anon 2:54 again. I read the same Americanah. What I remember is that she felt so shamed by her actions w the oyibo, she couldn't face Obinze and cut communication w him.

She did not return to Nigeria to scatter Obinze's marriage. She came back to continue her life in her country. When she and he reconnected by starting an affair, she broke it off when it wore on her.

It was Obinze who decided to leave his marriage after the long separation from Ifemulu. As usual, you all blame the woman when it was the man who took affirmative action to end his marriage bc he didn't love his wife as he should.

Adichie does not glamorize marital break ups. She showed that Obinze made his choice after deep soul searching. He realised he could be a responsible father without remaining attached to a woman he'd never truly loved.

The same for HOAYS. Readers recognised that the sisters and their family had forever changed bc of the line Olanna crossed w Richard. The family continued in an altered existence.

  49. @ QUASI...thank you very much, I used to be crazy about her. After Americanah, that was it for me! The book was filled with vulgar language and very loose ideologies and lifestyle. I've put Chimamanda to rest. I was SO disappointed.

    Fiction or not!
