Destitiute picked up at Marina Lagos this morning

People observed this vehicle picking up destitute at Marina Lagos around 6:30 this morning. Office of youth and social development was written on the KIA Motors truck that carried away the homeless people seen loitering and sleeping in the area. Wonder where they are taking these ones too since Gov Peter Obi of Anambra is quarreling with Gov Fashola for allegedly dumping over seventy homeless people in Onitsha last week.

Governor Fashola has since said only 14 destitute were repatriated from the state and not the 70 people widely reported. The governor said the homeless people said they were from Anambra state and needed assistance to go back home, so they took them to Onitsha.

    2. But seriously this is not funny @all. With all due respect to Lagos state gov i strongly feel this is dehumanising to say the least! Have never heard of people being deported to their home state in one's country! Haba! Is this to say one can't be taken care of by government irrespective of one's tribe as long as he/she is a Nigeria? This is so wrong and to think they are been picked up in a cage like vehicle speaks volumes, they are not dogs 4 crying out loud, they are humans and should be treated like one please. Let's not laugh over such dehumanising actions.

  34. I agree plz... Fashola is doing what he thinks is best for the state he's governing. These people are becoming a nuisance, they should go to their villages and become useful if they have nothing doing in Lagos, rather than living under bridges and ghettos, breed 10 kids etc, hence over populating the place. I'm not a Lagosian, I go for business and leave, so not being bias in anyway. I hail from Akwa Ibom and if I see immigrants doing nothing but come to over populate the State and my governor does same, i'ii totally support him. Let's be realistic and not attach sentiments. Ride on Fashola, even if they're Akwa Ibomites, deport them. Barrister says so...

  36. The Lagos govt should be commended for ridding Lagos of nuisance and crime. Besides, we have been told that Peter Obi was properly briefed before the destitutes were returned on choice. If Lagosians are picked up as nuisance or criminals in other States, they should be purnished or returned to the govt of Lagos State. Other states should keep their environment clean and free of nuisance in the example of Lagos.

Distitute and beggars are repatriate to their various but their state social devt/laision are not willing to accept them hence the social workers just dump them. However, some still find their way back to the city. Rehabilitation? It's voluntary... You can't force them esp. Chronic beggar to so... *Floetry In Motion*

    ReplyDelete
  55. Do you expect the governor to leave these people on the streets? He rehabilitated the 'deportees' and asked them what next? Many of them were headed back to the streets!!! Isn't it better to transport such people back to their hometowns? They are 'high-risks' to us all. Do u know how often people get robbed/kidnapped/'obtained' in Marina while walking from their office to the car park??? I've been attacked once and nobody dared look in my direction during the assault.

Some of these people travel to Lagos on borrowed funds with no plan whatsoever, no relation, nothing and of course they end up being daytime beggars and nighttime robbers. And of course, they buy their weapons with the money we 'pitifully' gave them when they begged us!!!

I support Fashola. He needs to keep our streets clean.

  105. Stupid idiot park out of Lagos now we will not miss you. The best time in Lagos was during Christmas when Okoro has gone home for Christmas. Now they don't even go home on this annual pilgrimage again. You people have debased our society with your houseboy mentality. Prostititution and runs anything goes. The earlier you create Biafra the better for everybody.I know your fellow Okoro blogger Linda may not post this .

  106. Fashola is breaking the law by deporting Nigerians to their states of origin which is unconstitutional.Take a look at the cage like car that he locked these Nigerians up in...This is so very pathetic....What crime did these people commit?...They are poor!

  107. Development is not by dumping of humans dat are called destitutes packaged like animals cos of free ride, nigeria will still become worst if there is no uniformity in job opportunities irrespective of wher u r from, cos most times revenue allocation ratio of other states are not d same so its d matter of best state to carry first position cos all na wash

  108. This reminds me of a prose back den in school "The beggars strike"

  109. So the touts in every garages who harrass conductors for owo ile dont constitute nuisance abi?fashola is jealous of igbo cos they are successul businessmen.they dont jostle for govt jobs like yorubas.

    ReplyDelete
  110. So the yoruba who harass and extort owo chairman and owoile in garage dont constitute nuisance abi?fashola is jealous of successfull igbo businessmen that is why he always seal their shops.the deported traders are traders who were caught by fashola kai brigade.

  111. My take is that if you deporting igbos what of yorubas that beg especially those carrying twins and using them to beg.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Fashola is a yoruba man, and have been looking for reasons to chase people away from Lagos. hhhahahahha.. Now the story have changed from they needed transport 2 go back 2 dere respective town and they were assisted.

  113. what about arae boys at the bus stop fashola ibu onye asi.

  114. oh! how i wish they will do the same in warri, see destitute and mad pple every where u go fear fear now lol.

honestly i support fashola on this movement. all the pple runing their mouth if you were to be in warri, u will pray they been remove. at least he is relocating them to their states, let their state government take care of them.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I wish Nigerians can be constructive in their reactions ....deporting Nigerians inside Nigeria(does that statement make sense?) Fashola should go back to fundamental issues and stop this unconstitutional nonsense....the Ejigbo roads he started for his socalled "No second Term" campaign is worse than its previous state soo many second term projects left abandoned.. Fashola is trying, we never elect anyone to try, you are meant to do your job..stop voilating human rights(SAN) @hustlehollik

  116. This is no laughing matter and has nothing to do with tribalism ,truth is lagos is overpopulated, , there should be better welfare packages 4 the unemployed and true federalism should take place to avoid such shits

    ReplyDelete
  117. Fashola is Heartless, wat right does he ve to deport dem back to onitsha, besides every individual has a right to where he or she wants to live.he has also 4gotten dat dis same pple voted for him.Yoruba Goat

    ReplyDelete
  118. I read almost all the comments and Fashola's response ,i am to say the least disappointed in Fashola's defense ,why on earth would you deport a fellow citizen ? I am a Nigerian living and working in the US, the Us Gov will never attempt such . I have studied Fashola from a distance ,there's so much hype around him,i am from Ogun State by the way, there's no big deal in what he is doing. Lagos is developed than most states today because it was the federal capital ,not because of Fashola lets get that fact straight. Fashola hates the poor ,he destroyed makoko without providing an alternative. The man has the air of arrogance ,he's a media creation

    ReplyDelete
  119. Why is Spyinka ,Falana ,Agbakoba and the rest of the human right community ,is it because it is Fashola that you're all quite ? Meanwhile, you were all making noise over the saga in Rivers State because Amechi is giving you guys dollars. I dare you all to march to Alausa and tell Fashola the simple thrush, every Nigerian can live wherever they want, the police is the constituted authority to takecare of deviant behaviors . Fashola behaves as if he will die in office, somebody else will take over that seat in 2015 and you move to your surulere residence or somewhere in Ikoyi having stolen enough like your God father who moved from Ikeja to ikoyi

    ReplyDelete
  120. Fashola behaves as if 2015 is hundred years away, like Dimeji Bankole told Rauf Aregbesola at a gathering that no matter how long you remain as governor, you will leave the saddle someday ,he should remain their and rot, idiot

    ReplyDelete
  121. Nigerians are very funny people, rather than condem what Fashola did people are wiping up ethnic sentiments ,yet we are supposed to be one Nigerians ,Fasola should tread with caution and stop this arrogance . Ben Akabueze is tier not because of Fashola ,but his mentor Bola Tinubu,he would fired him if he had his way. Fashola is a dictator to the core ,the media hype has gotten into his skull. I wonder watt kind of fasting that will allow you to subject a fellow human to such barbaric treatment. The back page celebrity writers should speak up or shut up ,everyone is quite because it is Fashola

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ny brother ,forget Nigerian journalist ,they are a bunch of hungry people looking for brown fat envelopes ,the back page writers are glorified praise singers ,Fashola has murdered sleep ,he's too elitist and tribalistic ,why subject your fellow countrymen to such treatment in the name of beautifying Lagos , Can he account for the cost of all the flowers ? He's behaving as if he will die in office ,why build a park and fence it ,thank God the national assembly rejected the clamor for state police

    ReplyDelete
  123. Fashola is doing a great job in lagos state and am in support of what his doing. This is not a tribalism issue I was at oshodi few weeks ago when mopols raided the oshodi nausaince, destitiutes, jobless boys and we all know that 60% of the taunt re yorubas so pls stop saying fashola is being unfair to the ibos . Fashola is only doing this for our own good. Can u compare the lagos of 10yrs ago to the lagos of today. We should all be grateful to him instead of critizing him. To stay in Lagos na by force instead suffering themself let them go back home, abi when fashola was offering to help with their transport fare why didn't they go, abeg I want a situation whereby I will able to leave home 5.am to work without any fear of my bag being snatched or robbed.those of u blamimg fashola thinks twice before posting.am not a lagosian

    ReplyDelete
  124. Fashola"s action is so wrong ,he should stop this lame defense and learn to keep quite ,Nigeria is home to all ,that you have Ben Akabueze in your cabinet is for the igbo votes ,besides ,you have no input in that ,including all the people around you

    ReplyDelete
  125. This people are first and formats Nigerians ,they can live wherever they want ,it is left for the police to check deviant behaviours

    ReplyDelete
  126. Not everyone can avoid to leave in lagos,it's just like NY or paris it's not all there citizens that can avoid the big city..lagos is much congested so if they cant add to the improvement in lag let send 'em parking..

    ReplyDelete
  127. what is sad about what Fashola did afterall some Lagosians were departed back to Lagos from the east too, you dnt have to live in Lagos to survive, its hard enough, coming without any back up makes it worse.
how can a sane man jump on d wagon and bid his village farewell that he's coming to lagos to make it; who does that? are they picking money on the streets of lagos?
like one sensible Ibo woman spoke on facebook 'ur governor and leaders shd fix your state and stop running to other people's state' Lagosians living in Lagos are about 10M or less where are the remaining 15M from? u guys wanna pollute the state?

    gush - am outta here

  128. The day Fashola starts to pick up area boys that are more of a threat to the society, is the day I will start believing in the program. Many of these people that are being picked from the streets are more productive members of the society than the area boys that are stealing and maiming, yet remain untouchables.

And for those that are talking about the picked-ups constituting a nuisance to the society, it may interest you to know that many of them have hand-works and were either going to or returning from their places of work before they were picked up commando style and no question asked. Meanwhile, area boys are having a field day.

Fashola, has shown himself to be evil. I could never have imagined that a so called senior advocate of Nigeria that supposed to know the law would be infringing on people's rights with impunity.
