According to the deputy governor of Lagos State, Hon Joke Orelope-Adefulire, the Domestic Violence Law is made not only to protect women who are most times the target of violence in the home but also to safeguard the interest of men, children, servants, maids and everyone who may be a victim of domestic violence.
In case of man/woman abuse issues, it does not matter whether there's a valid contracted marriage between the victim and the perpetrator of the act as long as they are living together in a home setting. Continue...
Here's what happens when there's a case of domestic violence.
1. Remove the abuser from the home pending when the abuse is corrected
2. Or remove the complainant from the residence and put in a protective home
3. Provision of financial assistance by the state via the Office of the Public Defender/Legal Aid Council to victims of abuse who maybe financially unable to seek redress in court.
4. The court can issue warrant of arrest and remand order
Problem is: No one would report
ReplyDeleteI lyk ds law oooooo, chia wife beaters nw go learn lesson bt still sm women ll nt speak up and let d rty authorities knw abt dere abuse due shame and humilation.

ReplyDeleteSay NO to physical assault of any kind. No one has the right to put their hands on another individual
I think this is very good. The amount of women who have died at the hand of their husband knows no bounds. Some wife beaters go on to molest their daughters and unfortunately get away with it. I do hope women won't take advantage of this and start disrespecting their husbands. Can't wait to see how this Law pans out
ReplyDeleteNice one, lagos state to me, is really trying!#didi

ReplyDeleteThank you God... I pray they will be able to keep this part. "Provision of financial assistance by the state via the Office of the Public Defender/Legal Aid Council to victims of abuse who maybe financially unable to seek redress in court."
ReplyDeleteDomestic violence is a serious issues. Now what they need to do is go on national television and warned the masses and educate the women. Tell them what is now at stack when they hit their wives. It is no longer she is my wife what is your business.

ReplyDeleteI pray oh!
ReplyDeletethey shouldn't bring this American law to Nigeria in America their women are more responsible when married than our women they can go any length if single but once they settle down they behave themselves you only hear infidelity among their men but here the reverse is the case you open your net to read news only to see the video of married women having sex even in the bush.if they didn't abolish this law the divorce rate in America will be a childs play to ours

Deletehalleluyah.... amen.... Thank you Jesus!!!! he has done it again. linda i dont comment on this blog, but this is so good... i am dating a guy in Nigeria, and i live in united states , a country of law... whenever i visit nigeria, my boyfriend will beat me blue black, and if i attempt to report to the police, people will tell me it doesnt work that way in nigeria. Sweet baby Jesus, if i travel again, i will make sure he lays his hands on me and go to jail...... somebody shout halleluyah...
ReplyDeleteAs in Ehn, ur stupidity is unparalleled. Gosh.

Hope this works. Men please control your temper, women don't beat your helps any how.
ReplyDeleteLagos state govt...hMmmmMm
ReplyDeleteGood news, but how will this take effect when most abuse is from our law enforcers........
ReplyDeleteThis is a welcome development, it will take some time to be effective, but hopefully it will.Waiting for a law that allows women to lay claims on half their husbands property in divorce matters, not that I advocate divorce, but I think it will curb the extent to which naija men cheat and flaunt it in their spouse's face.
ReplyDeleteOk,so what about the law for wicked women who kill their step children and maltreat their house maids? Just asking
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Well done deputy governor. Now all the wife bitters, go and acquire a new koboko to flog ur wives.... Onofia!
ReplyDeleteIts about damn time... Men need to realise tht just cause u paid a woman's bride price dont mean she's ur property and can be treated anyhow. Brideprice is just a tradition. No money can buy the worth of a woman.. Dont get it twisted! Same goes for abuse of housemaids by both men(sexually defiling her body) and women(slap, flog, abusive words, setting on fire etc). The nonsense has got to stop! Hopefully the law is enforced and applies to even the rich who use money to buy their way out of everything and the morally corrupt at the top twist and bend the law just for a fatter bank account and pocket.
ReplyDeleteOnly wives???
ReplyDeleteGreat! Other states should emulate Lagos state.
ReplyDeleteEko o ni baje... O baje ti
ReplyDeleteThis is so welcome, Thumbs up to the Lagos Executives. People will stop behaving like barbarian. This is how to build a civil society
ReplyDeleteTime to employ trained Social workers. Not just spousal abuse, but child abuse. Abuse is not only physical, but also includes, emotional, sexual, financial and spiritual.
ReplyDeleteYES! About time.
ReplyDeleteOther states please follow.

ReplyDeleteLolz... R u serioUs? Dis nogo dey funny @ all cos our naija men nogo like dis new development oo.as 4 d woman nd maids dis na big opporTunity to misbehave or behave.
ReplyDeleteAnd what if a woman beats a man???
ReplyDeleteDts d best tin dt hs ever happen. Thks to who ever inititated dis. We men must learn to respect our wives and women.gd one Lagos State
ReplyDeleteLagos is gradually drifting into a western style authority from the original biblical and african traditions. So this means that if i beat my wife, i go to jail, very soon it will be if i beat my child i got to jail also, Now, how will i come out of jail and forgive my wife? or who will be sleeping with my wife while in jail? It is not advisable to hit a woman but this law is anti-peace and its very very satanic. Divorce, adultery and fornication is becoming the order of the day in Lagos!
ReplyDeleteBush man. Diss western civilisation yet lining up for years just to obtain US visa.
DeleteIf u beat your wife, you'll go to jail where another man go fuck you die while your wife is getting good good loving from another man in the same house where you beat her.... Imbe like you!
My dear that's the reason why when you think of who's gonna bang ur wife and all while in jail, u should avoid hitting her at all. The law is meant to regulate the action of all woman beaters out there. Thanks!
DeleteMy dear that's the reason why when you think of who's gonna bang ur wife and all while in jail, u should avoid hitting her at all. The law is meant to regulate the action of all woman beaters out there. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteYay!!!I go find trouble tire!!!
DeleteWomen should stop provocative comment too.like nagging and cursing their husband.women torture housemaid and stepchildren too.they hate it when their inlaws came to spend time in their matrimonial home.but when their own family came to stay they accept them.these should be look into too.

ReplyDeleteCorrect! I luv dat!
ReplyDeleteI would like to ask if this law also protects men that are victims of domestic abuse...No Discrimination Against MEN!
ReplyDeleteI love dis... Men Una dry hear. If ur wife piss u off, just walk out jejeli.
ReplyDeleteWhat about when a guy beats his girlfriend?
ReplyDeleteMy dear all join..as far as the person beating has a dick and the person beaten has a pussy...all na DV and the law must prevail!
DeleteSo what happens to a man who's being beaten by his wife? lol
ReplyDeleteExcuse me. What happens when woman beat us? hey chineke, no be set up be dis?
ReplyDeleteHehehehehe! No worry,I go tell Fashola abt it.
DeleteSomething sensible at last!! This would make all those aggressive husbands think twice before laying their hands on a woman :/
ReplyDeleteI am not in support of men that beat women but women tend to use these laws as yardstick for misbehaving. Women make una dey well o as some men won't mind going to jail but they just have to fulfil that which their mind is set to do.
ReplyDelete-Blunt Ibo boy-
haba... why now? ooh, who will I be beating now after I return home drunk like a sailor? who will I be practicing back-hand on? what is the matter with this govt sef? dem nor get work???
ReplyDeleteBunch of bullshit. I will like to see this so called law actually be In effect. The rich will still oppress the poor. Here's a thought for you foolish government. Create jobs and there will be less tension and frustration in homes. Give good roads and you will have less accident. Provide better health care and people will stop dying like chicken. There's a lot of work to be done to that country. A country where people are beaten to death in public. Broad day light. Ughhh I'm disgusted with our government.
ReplyDeleteGood one lagos state
ReplyDeleteNow waiting for alimony laws so men can keep em zipped up.
ReplyDeleteYES, YES, YES!!!! THANK YOU HON. JOKE, LAGOS STATE ALWAYS SETTING THE PACE.
ReplyDelete~~ZZ
Good development!
ReplyDeleteGood to know, Linda... What's the number to call incase of such?
ReplyDeleteGood! Very good! Now all those men out there with low self esteem can be arrested for pouring out their frustration on their women. Best law Lagos State government has ever made. Local police stations will be filled up. They just gave women the license to taunt their men.LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou women too talk yagayaga to your husband, If you tell me nonsense, will lure you out to calabar beat shege comot for your body then come to Lag. After all I didn't beat you in Lag abi

ReplyDeletePraise God, I am very elated.....now I pray this will reduce the amount of domestic violence that goes on in families.....very happy
ReplyDeleteThat's the kind of law they should be spreading instead of thinking how to marry babies..
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Am loving this. Now all the abusive husbands n bfs on this blog re ranting. This is giant step towards the right direction. Here in the US try abusing ur wife n u ll find ur sorry arse on the streets!
ReplyDeleteThe globalists have found an opening for their end-game of the destruction of the family. First, they mandate the promotion of divorcees and feminists to positions of authority in society, next comes these obnoxious laws that can be used to bankrupt heads of families(men) and take their children as wards of state, sending the men to slave labor camps(prison). We all know how a woman can be erratic at least once a month, how she can dig dirt out of the past to use in blackmailing the man, especially if she is the gold-digger type. How will discipline be maintained in the home if you take away a man's authority and give it to feminist and divorcee judges? Nigeria has opened the gate to satan and homosexual marriage will be the end-game.
ReplyDeleteSo a man's fist represents his authority??? U're obvious an animal. I've notin much to say to u. Wife beater.
DeleteSo a man's fist represents his authority??? U're obvious an animal. I've notin much to say to u. Wife beater.
DeleteThe law will not change anything. Don't be deceived, if you run your mouth too much on your husband because of this new law that will NEVER be passed, be ready to go the husband.
ReplyDeleteThe new law doesnt give you right to misbehave to your husband else you will get beaten and nothing will happen.
ReplyDeleteTrust Naija ladies they will not report to the authorities if they get beated by their husbands, particularly now that they say husband will be very scare by 2023. Who wan lose the one wey e manage get. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteyall keep talking about how these law is prefect and all. Domestic violence isnt only physical, it can be verbal, emotional etc. Is these also included in the law
ReplyDeleteErratic once a month indeed, so when ur mom is erratic u beat her up! Pls shut up and crawl back to your cave, violence against any one is not right, not acceptable you weakling.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous August 5, 2013 at 5:14 PM - "The globalists have found an opening for... How will discipline be... take away a man's authority and give it to feminist and divorcee judges? ..the end-game"
ReplyDeleteOgbeni - all this grammar simply bcos you wan dey batter women? Na so ur papa dey batter ur mama? Na so u go wan make one man batter ur doter?
So discipline in d hse can only b maintained by wife-bashing? You must b one of dose guys dat cant maintain an erection for more dan 2minutes and beat women as a cover up! ode!
Why is nobody talking of verbal harassments that tend to torture you more than physical combats. I don't beat women not because of any reason but my mouth bad pass so na them dey always get the torture if we dey quarrel.
ReplyDeleteYaaaaaaay! In love with the new law. And who says no one would report. The issue isnt if anyone would report but the ability of the state government to implement the law without all those bureaucracy.
ReplyDeleteSo No More Caning? Is Caning and Wayaring Now a Crime?
ReplyDelete@ANON 5:14 PM and @Sunday Otuns...Please shattap...Marry a GOOD woman and be a GOOD HUSBAND and you will have no problem.....arrant nonsense why dont you go and beat your mother?....how do you think your children feel when they see their father beating their mother?.......is it not the same 9 months that men and women are born ...who gave you the authority to beat Gods creation, WHO ARE YOU?.....IF you want to learn taekwando dont marry.. why marery a wife when you treat her worse than an animal....Nonsense, see how all the insecure men have come out now......
ReplyDeleteTo all the mugus commenting cant you read?....the law is for everyone both man, woman, children ..everyone but women are usually the main victims. Read simple English
ReplyDeleteNa both ways, if u flog ur children or children beat their beat beat their parents, u will have a chat with olopa. This na victory 4 d oppressed wey dey suffer any shape of domestic violence in silence.
ReplyDeleteWhat about men abused by male partners?
ReplyDeleteWhat of husband beater?bcos u girls are happy for d news
ReplyDeleteThis is a step in the right direction, however it's not just about passing laws but making sure that it's enforced & most importantly makingsure tthat it is NOT abused!
ReplyDeleteNigeria already has a bunch of laws that were passed & yet they're abused by the same group of people that passed them..
@Anon 3:06, its like you just bought a bb for the first time! This is a blog for serious and people not for giggolos. You are looking for matured women on bbm, why u no go find Beverly Osu, Afro Candy and Cossy? Aja!
ReplyDelete@ 5:14pm, you need prayers.
ReplyDeleteProtect the woman from hit as well protect the man from premature death...lots of Nigerian Women are terrible..as in Terrible..this serves Wife beaters well honestly but as well a family service linked with the Police should be set up to check cases of a very terrible and possessed wife whose mission is just to destroy that mans home, the only food for this specie of women is just unrest in the house 247 and the more the heat the excited the spirit in them gets..these type of women usually have no morals or behavior and trust me they sure exist..i live with one...
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 5:14 YOUR COMMENT IS VERY DAFT, SO BEATING A WOMAN UP IS NOT SATANIC, YOU ARE A WOMAN BEATER AND A WEAK MAN, WITH A LOW SELF ESTEEM. YOUR COMMENT BAFFLES ME MAN, TUFIA KWA..
