Pregnant former Olympian suddenly collapses and dies in restaurant

Heavily pregnant former Olympian, 26 year old Meskerem Legesse, suddenly collapsed and died while having lunch with her two year old son in a restaurant in Connecticut on Monday July 15th.

The Ethiopia runner, who was three weeks from her due date (pictured above minutes before collapsing) was given CPR at the restaurant before an ambulance rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead. Fortunately the doctors were able to save her baby.

The cause of death was unclear but her friend told reporters that the professional runner had suffered heart problems in the past and that's why she retired early from sports. So sad! RIP, Meskerem!

  11. Another sudden death,clearly heart related .
LIB readers do take care of your health.Watch what you eat and your lifestyle.Be aware of your health status and manage the manageables don't allow Nigeria problems overwhelm you cos the condition of the country definitively places our lives at risk. The thought of no. Light, traffic, poverty, insecurity ,joblessness and lack of good rest in order to avoid traffic to and from work can prone one to heart related conditions e.g hypertension/stroke.
Imagine ,the baby's life was saved if na Naija, who will safe the life?when the patient will not be able to access a doctor in hours of the incidence.Did you hear that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on patient at the restaurant ,for Nigeria restaurant ke! unless a dr is also eating at the same restaurant and before you find drs to do that in teaching hospitals ,protocol will not allow early access or issue of pay before service .
Naija people God is in control of our affairs however we should take the first step to help herselves.
R.I.P and we pray that God takes care of the baby.

  44. This brought tears to my eyes, i'm glad they were able to save the baby.

Normally pregnant women with heart conditions are delivered via c/s earlier than the complete 9mths to avoid cardiac failure, wonder why that wasn't the case here. May her soul RIP and may God forever be with the precious kids shes left behind.
