Video: Boxer Bash Ali bashed by Minister of Sport's security detail

Nigerian boxing legend, Bash Ali, 57, was manhandled by policemen after attempting to see the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi in Abuja on Thursday June 6th.

According to the Nigerian Telegraph, the boxer, who is seeking to become the oldest man to hold a world boxing title defence, and wants to have his defence staged in Nigeria, jostled to get an audience with President Jonathan, who was at the Abuja National Stadium to inaugurate ‘Rhythm ‘N’ Play on Thursday. Ali scuffled with the president’s aides, which got the attention of Jonathan. After having been allowed to approach the president, and after stating his mission, Jonathan directed that the boxer see the Minister of Sports for further discussion on the matter.

Ali however alleged that when he tried to see Abdullahi at a private luncheon held with celebrities and a few others, he was manhandled by the minister’s aides and denied audience with the minister.
“There is no respect in this country for the people who should be respected,” Ali fumed. “How can I, when all I am trying to do is lift up my country’s name, be assaulted by a bunch of scoundrels all in the name of protecting their master? I was already a world champion when they were in primary school.”

    2. Bash ali was rude and had no respect for authorities. He disrespected the President, the Minister and everyone at the event. Then later he tried to force himself into a meeting he wasn't invited to. Does being a boxer give him such right?

    3. Law of cama will soon fall on that Minister. I want to seize this opportunity to remind the federal govt to remember that the man being malhandled is a man that has won glory 4 this great country owning a world title wth him and most of all a national honour "CON". The minister (a bloody opportunist)has not disgraced this man, cos is an entity but has disgraced the entity called Nigeria, worst of all the seat of the Presidency of the Federal government of Nigeria whose emblem this great man is carrying by virtue of the National honour bestowed on him. I'm sure our govt whould neva have seen an MBE, OBE or a KBE been publicly humiliated like this. The minister shld remember that he does not av a mandate, 'cos we neva elected him, he's just their 'cos is a pdp man. Sovereignty lies in d ppl of this country.
GEJ, I want u to do justice to this international shame this ur appointee has put Nigeria n Nigerians into.

He has lost his respect, from a hero to a nuisance.
If his not fighting with security deatails at the National Assembly,it will be at the PDP national office.

  10. This is exactly what these useless so called 'police men' do. How embarrassing is this shit. This is somebody that they should be saluting and 'dobale-ing' for. Look at the way they disrespected him. If it is Chris Brown or Kim Kardashian or any other oyibo, you will see them, acting like they know work...this shit needs to stop. We are our own worst enemies. If they can't respect him for anything, at least respect the grey hair on his head. This is exactly why I will never let my father go any where on his own and mingle with such people. I can't ever tolerate him being man-handled like this by people that don't even match up to his level in any way, shape or form. Heaven will just fall.

  18. There should be no respect for anyone in the country because everyone is supposed to be equal. If the president said you should talk to the Minister about it then you have to go the official way to the Ministry of Sports an make an enquiry on how to submit your idea to the Minister I bet you no one will throw you out.He was in a private luncheon and you expected to just walk in. I wasn't expecting you to get in. On the other hand if you think you can have unrestricted access to him why can't every other Nigerian walk up to him? Your medals? No its not enough. Go through the official way.

As embarrassing as the scene might have been for the Legend, my pity is for those Policemen and the Minister, it's a reflection of how decayed this system we call Nigeria is, no one is respected anymore. David Cameron moves around freely, yes his security/aides maybe more but not this hungry, ineffectual, angry, disrespecful, foolish, cowardly and stupid. To them this is safeguarding their boss?! Very funny! While they were busy doing this, someone could have easily passed through and slashed the stupid ministers' throat.

  35. I refuse to believe a whole Bash Ali, arguably the most successful boxer in Nigeria, will be manhandled and treated like a tout simply to avoid his audience with the Sports Minister? There's more to this episode. I think maybe Bash tried to force his way into the luncheon being held, uninvited, hence he was manhandled. I refuse to accept this maltreatment will happen for no reason. Let's here from the Minister's security detail before we draw any conclusion.

At least, I am sure he was not trying to assault Bolaji.

And once that, they pass word that a former Heavyweight class champion wants to have a word with the Minister. Via The Protocol Officers -
If Bolaji cant attend then, THE PROTOCOL OFFICERS/HEAD OF SECURITY would
dispatch/contact a PA/Assistant duty personnel to attend to the man.

He must have tried to get in touch officially, but even i know how difficult it is to get through to our National/Public Office Holders.

It's a barbaric thing to have happened.

Bolaji is a gentleman - I know he will attend to this DISGRACEFUL incident as soon as possible.

In anycase, Bash Ali deserves a serious apology.
And must instruct the head of his security personnel never to use force in the case of unarmed civic encounters.

Finally wen we sat to have lunch wit the Hon minister of sport in his conference room, everyone was already seated wen Bash barged into the conference room requesting that somone should stand up for him to sit down. A seat was offered to him to sit by d corner bcos the table is already filled up. He was there just behind me talking to the Hon minister in a rude manner talking abot how is an. he actually tried to disrupt the lunch wen the security men threw him out after much pleading from them to him to be calm and eat like every other peron in the room. 115. yeah, most pple know Bash Ali has become a nuisance with his quest of becoming the oldest boxer to win a world title in the world . i know a bit of his story at Airport Hotel but i don't need to say much about that . Nevertheless he should be respected as a former world champion and or as an elderly man . If the president or any minister is not interested in helping him actualized his dream , that is not a problem but he should not be treated this way at all . Our mentality in Nigeria is becoming worrisome ooo .Sorry oo Ali for being in a wrong place at wrong time .

  120. It is said, ALL THAT YOU DO WILL BE VISITED ON YOU, IN LIKE MANNER. Just as Mr Bash spoke, while you were kids or not even born, he sought to bring glory dat u all now wallow in. Forget not that what u 'wallo' in, will someday leave ur hand, and others will take; maybe those u have treated ill, BE WARNED
