UNIBEN student killing: DPO denies firing shot that killed student

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, CSP Carol Afegbai, has denied firing the shot that killed alleged final year student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, on May 27th during a stop and search in Benin. (If you missed the story, read it HERE)

According to the Edo State Police PRO, a Russian made double barrel gun with eight rounds of cartridges, two loaded in the gun, were found on Ibrahim (pictured above). Ibrahim's family and friends are protesting his death, denying claims he was an armed robber. Ibrahim was shot on the 27th of May and buried the next day by the police without his family being informed.

According to CSP's Carol's husband, her orderly PC Amadi Idahosa shot and killed Ibrahim when the deceased allegedly tried to reach into his bag to pull out his weapon and harm the corporal who was conducting the stop and search along Siloku road by Obayuwana junction, Benin that Monday night.

The Governor of Edo State, Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Inspector General of Police, have ordered probe into the case to unravel the real circumstances that led to the killing.

    3. Two side of every story Yes. But to this let's look into this ourselves; as a. Police officer doing stop and serch if u claim u shot the guy while his trying to pull or bring weapon from his bag are u not trainned where to shot to weaking ur enemy and have u forgotten so soon conditions at which u are to shoot to kill? That if what ur claim is right. This guy life is just wasted without justice but I knw fully well my God will do justice soon.If only u knw what it take s to get to that stand

    4. Autopsy reports show that he was shot in the back three times. You will expect that someone reaching for his gun will have entry shots in the front and not the back. The Nigerian police keep showing that they are a bunch of heartless, useless and wicked beings that don't value human life. They can terminate a life for just 100 naira. When I see them on the road, I change direction if possible, even though I have all the correct vehicle particulars cos u are at their mercy when they stop you. They buried that boy to hide their crime, and they didn't expect that his body will be exhumed. Devils

If you have to shoot everybody you think is an armed robber lets start from the politicians.

It's Nigeria, once u are going after the Nigeria police, they can cook up stories to make u look guilty even when u are alive not to talk of someone that's dead that can't defend himself.

All they know how to do is intimidation

  29. Does the police think all Nigerians are fools? No matter how terrible and aggressive an armed robber is,he cannot confront or attempt to confront a policeman or men carrying an assault rifle
With a cut to size barrel that can fire two bullets and you have to reload again.
Its easy for the police to plant a gun on the late suspect than the guy to attack the police with his so-called cut to size. The Edo PRO has lots of lies in his statement in trying to cover the DPO.

  51. I thought the IG had put a stop to road blocks and all this stop and search nonsense.
Of course the boy must be an armed robber according to the police who lie more than the devil himself. The regular pathetic lie the Police uses to castigate any one who dares question them after the fuck up. He/she is a suspected armed robber. Even if the person was shop in a bus/car/ road/street/hotel/church.....
How are they always quick to identify "suspected armed robbers".... is their memory that photographic that even without pictures or a known face they always know armed robbers. Na wah o. Talents r truly wasting in the Nigerian Police Force.
Even if the boy was on his way to school carrying encyclopedia and calculus textbook and handout Police will say he was seen with a gun and attempted to use it. Na their way. It is their mantra.... what ever happens.... the person was a suspected armed robber.

The Nigeria Police Force are a bunch of assholes. Even if you change their uniform to make them look presentable they are still assholes.
Comb a pig, wash a pig, a pig is still a pig.
Tomorrow even if she is arrested... somehow she would escape like that is possible if you are not a police officer.
The Abuja 6 killing, have they managed to find the DPO(or whoever) who allegedly slayed six people and suddenly escaped from detention where he was being held.

All you journalist shame me. You only cover a story cos everyone is talking about it... as soon as they stop there is no follow up of any sort.... that is why the police can continue to kill innocent men and women with total disregard to the law and the IG cos they know.... Nothing fit happen.

    Truly Sad.

The autopsy is out sha and the family has claimed that his eyes are not found.
    So, more saga to come!

  62. Still does not explain why he was hurriedly buried. There are a lot of truth that we've not been told.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well, the truth may never be know again cos the victim is dead. Except may be there were witnesses. All the same, if the Police decides to go with this their story, it will be their words against that of the victim's family. it's quite a pity. The dead man is dead and is never coming back. Even if the Police pays the family $100,000,000.00. That is why nothing scares me like a policeman with a gun (loaded or unloaded). I fear the police more than I fear robbers because I always feel that they are professionally too frustrated and have not received enough training as to be trusted with a gun. At least if armed robber shoots someone, the world knows he was robbed and shot/killed. But if the police shoots someone, the person can easily be branded a robber.

    ReplyDelete

  79. This story here is so different from the confession the DPO herself made when students of UNIBEN visited her to get her side of the story. The video is on Youtube. She admitted shooting him in both legs and admitted to hurriedly burying him the next morning to avoid contacting disease. She is in big soup as her stories are disjointed and keep changing at every turn.

    ReplyDelete
  80. NYC-1 says: What is the baseless investigation for? The question is: Did the DPO follow standard procedure for what she did? If not, she should be relieved of her job and put to trial for ..., tampering with evidence, professional misconduct, 'and what have you?'

  81. You can tell those who live in Nigeria and those who don't based on the comments herein.

It is common for NPF to kill innocent citizens and plant incriminating items to justify the homicide.

Anyone who believes NPF's story is living in a fool's paradise. Conductors, okada men, etc. are killed incessantly for refusing to give N50 bribes and subsequently branded armed robbers by the NPF.

NPF LIED!!! This line of story is always too common with them. And they waited these few days to come up with this balderdash.

If he was a cultist b4 moving around with dat kind of gun he wouldn't have been alone. Police men ar actually the thieves I live close to a police station we've seen cases of dem telling detainees to run nd they shoot them. So even if he was a thief since he was killed in "self defence" y bury him? U only bury when u have somthing to hide. When ar we going to sanitize our police force when will law enforcement agents face consequencies for their actions? Nd we complain wen pple go killing law enforcement agents.
