Dear LIB readers: Where's the best place to meet single, available men in Lagos?

From a female LIB reader:
Can you ask your male readers the best places and ways to meet single available men?
I last went on a decent date like 4 years ago & after returning to Nigeria from my postgrad it's been a major struggle getting to meet handsome, inspiring cool guys. Men who like outdoor sports, hiking & camping, the beach swimming or building their own kitchen cabinets. I work in the middle of a financial and IT hub on the island with numerous banks and telecom offices around, I see some good looking guys occasionally when I go out to lunch but that's where it ends. With most of my friends not in the country and others married & busy with their families, having a girls night out is like pulling tooth from the very few available female friends I have got left. I have lately been getting the wrong attention from men I don't like even though I tried keeping them as platonic friends which never works out, till I realized I have not being proactive in choosing the men that approach me but yet I keep complaining and I want to change all that. Please help

    4. Now you didn't even drop a link as to how you can be reached. My uncle got back to Nigeria not quite long and complained about the few girls he went out on a date with. He said it's either they demand too much money, or bring their girls along, or demand more than what they can eat from the menu. He desires to meet someone who doesn't have these mentalities. Reach me via juliedaknight_008@yahoo.com and I'd link you guys up.

Forget the mall. Airports work once in a while. That fakeness at shoprite or wherever it is you go to,forget it,men hate that. Well at least if I'm a guy I'd be repulsed.don't spend for a man,no real man wants that. Make sure u laff genuienly..no carry face for mall tho,*ur luck mite be different* if I'm a man,I think I'll be attracted to a fine girl at the mall, decently dressed and kind (to the clerk, waiter, ticket girl or just the next person on the line)

  17. This same question came from a female colleague who just relocated to NG from UK. I think there are a few options. Lagos (esp VI, Ikoyi, Ikeja) Clubs are almost a sure bet when you do the right things, lounges such as Ziggies in Magodo, private beaches like Elegushi, Oniru, game centres like paintball game centre in Ogba, and a few other options. You need to present yourself the right way - You need to be flexible enough to look single and approachable, if a guy offers to buy you a drink, take the offer. Some guys are shy. If he asks a waiter or waitress to help drop his call card with you, take it and smile. Best wishes

  18. Just focus on your goals and dreams, the right man will find you.. Men can be very funny, once they realise you are kinda desperate, they take you for granted.. Act as if you're not bothered about your single status and you will see them swarm to you..

Not α fan of short guys but due to bringing my criteria down, I dated them and after some months I get tired of the relationships due to their drama, obsessive attitude, immature men with no hrt(can't imagine seein α snake in my bf room, and he couldn't kill it but pushed me forward to), stingy guys who wants be to give them gifts. I am an indoor person, fun loving, christian, friendly and nice woman. I have α moderately good job, 27 this year and I need α serious guy to build my world with who will love and adore me for who I am. I don't mind trying dating again but can be stressful.

Then you can turn their sex slave they call you when they feel like shekina. Welcome back to Nigeria. Hike, climbing good dinner date sowi dear you won't see that. stop day dreaming.

Even me sef wey dey Yankee still, i have never met a black man talkless of a naija guy who does all that and for what, unless they only date white girls. I'm just saying. You done miss road o!! Please where in naija is there a group of pple hiking, na #kokowalk runs? with all the problems we have just to make a daily commute, na inside bush u wan waka stroll..lol.
Why don't you just date a carpenter? his work requires him to be in the sun (outdoors guy), and he can build cabinets..see at least some of your requirements are met :). Hiking indeed!! Cabinet builder ko!!hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  44. I could do a dissertation on this. But let me keep it short. You are obviously living in Lala land. I'm very sure you're fat, coz Naija guys like nice things. And if you were that great, someone would have snapped you up. So the first thing is to lose some weighty and pull yourself together...

Then you're probably one of those girls that thinks u should be dating Boris kodjoe who also happens to make kitchen cabinets( like, what in Tarnation are u on about??? Kitchen cabinets?). I'm here to tell u that ur sadly mistaken. No one gives a damn where u went to school and what phD u might hold. In fact, it might work against u. So hide that info.

Go out, smile, lose weight, shut up, and get back to me whenit works...

    You're welcome,

  55. U can meet a man in nightclub, supermarket, sports club, church, wedding, Lagos traffic, mama-put joint, fast-food eatery, mechanic's workshop etc...the list goes on. Naija men do not hike nor camp nor build kitchen cabinet. This is Africa, not Overseas!!! Look for a guy dat has character over looks, tho going for a gorilla-looking man ain't good! Anyway, don't make it a habit of looking for love. Live your life and let it come naturally! And beware of falling into the trap of dating married men as many do not wear their rings.

  73. My dear, you can start by getting off your high horse & being a bit more realistic. Your choice of a man is what I call 'Delusions Of Grandeur'. "...men who build 'eir own kitchen cabinets..." really? Only a CARPENTER can do that for u in here (& I'm sure u don't want to end up with one :)). This is Lagos not Newyork. Lots of ladies have lost their soul mates to 'friend-zoning'. I'm not saying you should settle for less; All I'm saying is you can continue to stay classy, but keep it a bit simple.

SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE FORM OF SOPHISTICATION.

  78. The lady asked a very good question. More importantly, it is kind of question that most ladies are TOO proud to ask. So (Guys), give her credit for being honest. To your question, there are single available men everywhere, the question is not where to find them but how to identify them. Let me give you a tip as guy. If you want to meet such guys, whenever you go out, try to dress down a bit. From what you said, you've been getting the wrong attention from men. You must be showing off too much of that part of your body that is valuable. The less obvious it is to them, the more likely you are to meet someone wonderful. If he cant see such and he doesn't come to you, then he is not the one. Guys look for something every woman they cross, if that thing is not there or it fades away with time, so will the guy. If you are look for that special guy, you must give him a reason to stay with. And it must not be because of your wonderful body. Rather it should be because you are a wonderful people. With this open approach, You will definitely meet someone after your own heart. Someone who would make your Sun shine, even at night, someone who would make you feel like the world revolves around you and lastly someone who will always remember to whisper these three words, before you get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night, (I LOVE YOU).

  102. Lady, women like you are just plain wasting your time. What's with the long list of requirements. How many nigerian men do you know that do hiking or camping. There is no decent forest for camping. Please get a life and find a man around you that is acceptable without all those things.

I'm single but dont think will date women like you. You are all the type with a wedge between your legs.

  111. My dear, Church and weddings are about the safest places you can go without it looking like you're putting yourself our there for sale.
The other places like clubs, beaches, hang out spots, etc are not suitable for you to go alone. You would send the wrong signal and trust me, good guys get uneasy with Chicks they meet at clubs and the likes.

  113. Women are women's biggest enemies in this life! I totally understand where this lady is coming from, and men are suffering from the same dilemma!

Whatever you do, just stay away from clubs and a lot of nightlife for the most part.

Position yourself properly, Go out to public places during the day (especially on the weekends), go hang out in bars, cafes and similar type public places where you can see and be seen.

Attend events, weddings, fashion shows & anything unorthodox. You can even join a gym or so, anywhere you know guys go to and can be relaxed.

Whatever you do, think outside the box and I wish you good luck ;)

  116. My sister, firstly, you need to know what exactly you are looking for in a man. Don't be too choosy, becos it not possible for you to find a perfect man (as you want). All those issue of hiking, playing outdoor game or what have you, drop them aside. It's not common in man, here in Nigeria. Nonetheless, you can always 'blend' your man to doing them later. However, there is no particular place to go and hunt for men (let's be frank). You can meet him anyway at anytime. Just make sure you are modest in your dressing, talking, eating, drinking and so on, anywhere you find yourself. Your appearance and attitude matter most. You can capture a good man's heart at first sight if you look modesty and of good manners. No man wan marry most of the long-throat and ill-mannered ladies flocking around town. Make sure you distinguish yourself among the 'fake' ladies, in no time your mr right will come.

  117. IF YOU ARE A DEVOTED CHRISTIAN, PLS, TRUST GOD AND HOPE FOR ONE TO COME FROM AMONG THE DEVOTEES OF YOUR FAITH. BUT, IF NOT SO, THEN THINK OF WHAT IS UPPERMOST IN YOUR HEART FOR THIS LIFE. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO KNOW WHERE TO MEET MEN OF LIKE MIND. ABOVE ALL, TRY TO BE ORDINARY FRIENDS FIRST, AND THEN TAKE IT FORM THERE

  118. The best places are usually at the mall,in the banking hall,at a supermarket, weddings, church(tread carefully). But the bottom line is you have to have a routine that makes you touch each of these places at least once a week, i can guarantee you that someone will notice you.
