Serena Williams goes from being Sloan Stephens's mentor to being her enemy

Tennis sensation Sloane Stephens, 20, once said that Serena Williams was her role model and she looked up to her growing up. In fact Sloan said her dream was to be the next Serena Williams. Then the mentor and mentee met at the Australian open this past January and the mentee beat the mentor.

After then things changed between them. Apparently Serena didn't take too kindly to being beaten by Sloan and went from being Sloan's mentor to being her enemy in the blink of an eye..

In the latest issue of ESPN Magazine, Sloan blasts Serena revealing,
"She’s not said one word to me, not spoken to me, not said hi, not looked my way, not been in the same room with me since I played her in Australia. And that should tell everyone something, how she went from saying all these nice things about me to unfollowing me on Twitter.”
“Like, seriously! People should know. They think she’s so friendly and she’s so this and she’s so that - no, that’s not reality! You don’t unfollow someone on Twitter, delete them off of BlackBerry Messenger. I mean, what for? Why?”

    As me, Sloan is feeling pompous bcos she was able to beat serena. What stops her from saying "hi" to her if she doesn't. What stops her from following her if she doesn't. The fact dat she taught u, u learnt from her is enuf for u to respect her for life, irrespective of what. Once a mentor is always a mentor, so give her that respect. Probably u r even the one trying to turn things the other way round bcos u defeated her, and that's why she is keeping u at arm's length.

    I read the article. To me, Sloane just comes off as a whiny little crybaby. Serena is her competitor, not breastfeeding her. She never claimed to be her mentor. Because they are both black doesn't make her the next Serena. Tennis is competitive, Serena still wants to be on top. Sloane should just stfu and concentrate on her playing as people are already calling her beating of Serena a fluke.

    I feel Serena's pain. Sloan probably formed a relationship with her, learnt her strengths and weakness and used it all to her advantage.
    However, Serena, who's more experienced should have handled it better, atleast with the aid of good PR.
