Malta Guinness co-sponsors Okpekpe International Marathon in Edo

It was all guts, sweat and victory at the inaugural edition of the Okpekpe international 10km Marathon, a first in itself to happen in the Etsako West local government area of Edo state. 

According to promoters of the race, Okpekpe Road Race was of highest international standard with route measured and certified by the IAAF measurer. The race was endorsed by the IAAF and the AAC and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), with the backing of Malta Guinness Low Sugar and the Edo State Government as major partners. Continue

 

The  sheer display of will over the body was evident as athletes did battle for the coveted position of Number 1.   10. lol Linda it's not a marathon when the race is only 10km. Marathon race is 26mile(approx.43km). A job well done to the organizers though. Nigeria needs more fitness awareness. Our people are dying from too many complications from hypertension and obesity.

  26. This is being very pedantic but what is a 10km marathon? A 10km and a marathon are entirely different races run over different distances as well.

    Good to see something is being done to promote a healthy lifestyle though - how sustainable the initiative and movement would be in the long run is another thing.
