Iranian man jailed five years in Nigeria for illegal arms shipment

An Iranian man, Azim Aghajani and his Nigerian accomplice, Ali Abbas Jega, were today Monday May 13th sentenced to five years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for shipping illegal arms into Nigeria. The two were arrested in 2010 after Lagos port authorities discovered 13 containers of weapons which they had declared as construction materials.

The two men, who have been in court since 2011, were found guilty on four criminal counts but they will only serve less than three years of their 5 year sentence as their sentence will be counted from February 2011 when their trial began. The recovered arms will be given to the Federal government.

    5. ONLY FIVE YEARS, COMPARED TO HIS CRIME ???!!
We as a nation, is still in dream land. When the govt is serious to tackle insecurity in this country, he would. Coz they know how to go about it, but only afraid it will boomerang on them coz politicians are the source of our problem in this country, when they would be dishing out weapons to their political thugs to go fight their opponents. Now tell me the difference between this story and that of those politicians that believe in thuggery during election.
Mark it somewhere, these weapons are already bought by our politicians n Boko harams for 2015 election.

  3. 5 years yrs jail term for people that bring illegal arms to the country? I laugh for Naija. We are not ready to tackle insecurity issues in Nigeria honestly. Where were these people taking the arms to? Who and who are behind it? I believe there won't be answers for these questions.

  33. May God punish these bastards 5years?!!! For 13 containers of weapon, someone was sentence to 45yrs for stealing a governors phone another to death for stealing sachets of peak milk and indomie, this proves that some powerful people in this country are behind this, we only heard their sentence more questions need to be answered like where were they shipping it to??? Who's is the recipient of those weapons??? What where they going to use it for??? Who sponsored them??? Trust me if it was a nigerian caught with this in iran the person will be hanged to death. What a JOKE. May God bless nigeria and may he also destroy those trying to destroy it

  39. Nonsense.. See porous border.
Naija laws are very flexible. We need rigid laws & constitution in dis country. Crime as such, should go for a life time sentencing not as D judge ordered.

Who knows.. Those weapons are for deadly extremist, kidnappers &.. terrorist we're still fighting with to day.

May GOD help &.. See us through in dis side of D world we're living in.

  40. Hnmm naija our naija. 5yrs for 13 containers of arms. And they still went ahead to give the arms to those who ordered for it. *smh May God save us 2015

    ReplyDelete
  41. Less than 5yrs for 13 count charges, what about the guy who stole a governor's phone and was given 52yrs imprisonment? 9ja is an aftermath of a failed state.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 5 years? 5 years!!!

The most hilarious thing is that the monster in the above pic is most likely a very direct link to terrorism in Nigeria.

He imported what, like how many containers of ammunition?

These weapons would go out to armed robbers, boko haram, militants etc.. ie terrorists/evil doers in the society.

Yet those motherfuckers sentenced him to just 5 years.

They feel the problem in curbing terrorism/unrest in this country is to regulate private jet usage, regulate the use of tints for cars, and other partially ineffective measures, and here they are; with one of the real causes of unrest in this country, and they are using kiddie gloves to handle him!

Is it because he isn't black/Nigerian?

This is sick! So tired of this country.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 5 yrs is nothing. Iranian government will execute or give life sentence for this kind of crime. But doest it mean customs dont have a way of determine the true content of containers before giving clearance, even in today's high-tech world? Nigeria is still very far from development.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Penalties should be death now...haba, 13 containers....what kinda of a country is diz? Smuggle drugs to saudi arabia or malaysia nd see the penalty(straigh up death)....one can't rely on the law again...

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm just tired of all this anh anh na only them get this county.
They should be detained and questioned about the containrs now haba.
They just want to let them go like that just 5years #shocked#,you dare not try this in america, they have seriously taken Nigeria for granted...mtcheww

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nawa for naija, 5 years only? If the roles were reversed in his country, they would have cut off the person's hands, legs, firing squad etc....juvenile people.

Pls they should go and trade their weapons of mass destruction elsewhere, and leave naija alone. We never solve BH problem finish, make we no add Iran on top existing wahala!
