That is the best question! My hair is in tiny cornrows; I have a big ponytail on the top of my head. I quite like it. It is natural. I am a bit of a fundamentalist when it comes to black women's hair. Hair is hair – yet also about larger questions: self-acceptance, insecurity and what the world tells you is beautiful. For many black women, the idea of wearing their hair naturally is unbearable.I don't care what anyone says...weaves for life! Hehe
News, Events, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Fashion, Beauty, Inspiration and yes... Gossip! *Wink*
No one is stopping u, choices choices choices. U don't look bad wit ur natural hair though.
ReplyDeleteI have a low cut and I'm so not in vogue but its my hair n finally someone is speakin about this
DeleteYes! I've been thinking about this too, so sad we live in a time when almost everyone thinks it's absurd for black women to keep their natural hair. Don't fancy all the relaxers and Brazilian hair stuffs, natural hair for life
ReplyDeleteY won't u like weaves . To cover your receding hairline. Truly and frankly I like it when a woman is wearing her natural hair. Adichie is a complete African woman.
ReplyDeleteThis lady..Talk about beauty AND brains!!..Hot combo.#ILove.
ReplyDeleteAs for d hair matter..no go there..some of us avoid looking at d mirror when we take off our weaves especially when U hav front hair issues, lol!!
Love her sooo much xx
ReplyDeleteSee beauty even without make up! Real African beauty mhen!!
DeleteThis woman is beautiful. Besides braids doesnt look good on sm people not dat thy dnt embrace/appreciate thier natural hair. But bcos they dnt hv front hair anymore. Lol
ReplyDeleteAbi o Linda! One man's food is another man's poison. Wearing weaves doesn't mean a lady has a low self esteem. The same thing with make-up. Its all about choices and what suits you. Besides, dis Chimamanda babe added artificial hair to her braids in the photos above. What has she got to say about that? ( ˘͡ -˘͡)
ReplyDelete~Avryl~
Natural hair...rocks
ReplyDeleteThank u oh linda. I like my weave. My hair is not long or thick enuff to go natural. To each their own. Its nothing to do with this nonsense insecurity shit. I look goid in a dAmn weave
ReplyDeleteKeep deceiving yourself. I'm sure you keep relaxing your hair and that's why your hair is not long or thick enough. Mtcheww is it boiled down to not being comfortable in your own hair?
DeleteLOL!wateva works for u.for me,I believe it shld be mixed...try a lot of things.reduce the rate @ which the hair is exposed to chemicals and finally, make it simple and adorable.u don't ve to use ten packs for u to look good.chimamanda is pretty!seeing her 'upclose' for the 1st tym
ReplyDeleteAnd she is beautiful, I will use this as a solid excuse not to buy Brazilian hair. Even if you barb low cut, it doesnt matter, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for spreading the word Ms Adichie.
ReplyDeleteGod please give me a woman like this -very confident, loves her crown(natural black hair) and with a high IQ, not the ones on this blog carrying weavon of dead Asian and Southamerican women
ReplyDeleteConfidence!!!
ReplyDeletebut linda honestly mk u try weave nah lol like ghana weaving e go fit u oooo lol
ReplyDeletebut Linda seriuosly mk u try weave nah lol like Ghana weaving, e go fit u ooooo lol
ReplyDeleteI love her! Natural all the way!
ReplyDeleteGood for her... I like her style...
ReplyDeleteI'll be a year natural in May! I love being natural! My hair is growing faster than ever and it's healthy. Now it can be difficult to take care of at first because honestly you have no idea what you're doing but over time, it gets easier. You can do so much with natural hair! Many natural girls wear weaves and wigs to protect their hair so it will grow and grow in peace! I'm about to get me a few wigs sef! LOL! I like that a lot of Black girls are going natural and embracing their hair! It is liberating! VIVA NATURAL HAIR!!!:-*
ReplyDeleteI would be a year natural in Sept too, wasn't easy at d beginning buh I love it now, I feel like I know myself more and my hair growth is amazing...not that I don't wear weaves...buh I think everyone should do whatever gloats their boats, in as much as I think its great to be nappy and grab ur identity with pride. #teamnaturalforlife
DeleteWell said babe, ow I wish lots of naija women wld tink lyk u. Luv ma natural hair too...
ReplyDeleteawwww Chimamanda nwuyemoo!
ReplyDeleteu'll still look beautiful even without hair.
~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA3310
I like weaves cus it easy to maintain and makes me appear neater and long weaves makes me look slimmer. It all just depends on what u like and can manage. Natural black hair is still rocks. But Chimamanda u sef get extensions for ur hair na
ReplyDeleteThat's because u can't get away with it Linda, you Fugly already with a weave and all ur make up imagine you without? ok Dont!! anyways look at this lady again she is damn beautiful ppl only do what they can get away with if I was as pretty as Amber I would be bald to whatever nonsense I want..
ReplyDeleteShe is beatiful
ReplyDeleteShe's pretty and an awesome writer too
ReplyDeleteShe's pretty and an awesome writer too
ReplyDeleteIt's just insecurities that make black women go for the attachments. Simple.
ReplyDeleteLinda please! Can't be wearing weaves, especially long weaves for the rest of your life. Take a cue from Naomi Campbell.
ReplyDeleteAlso i think this age old barbaric practice of shaving girls heads in primary school up to their second to last year in secondary school is barbaric!! Girls grow up not knowing how to take care of their real/natural hair because for about the first 15-16 years of their lives, they continuously shave their heads even before getting an inch of hair. Then as they grow their hair they always perm it or put weaves and wigs because they were never taught at a young age how to take care of their own hair. Its sad and i think the idea that girls in pubic schools should have to cut their hair should be outlawed!
Proudly african.
ReplyDeleteWeaves for life cuz u are ugly.........
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm dats my Kambili home girlie, she's my favourite Celeb after Linda, can't stop reading her novels>half a yellow sun,Purple hibiscus,ecetera...girlie up u go my homie! Dats beauty for u 100 God made!<Joel zays zo via bold5<

ReplyDeleteThis Linda! U need an overhaul in your Thinking! All this ur "I belong" won't earn u a space with foreigners..u seem not to like anytin African, judging from ur speech, dressing et al! Oh well..wateva makes u sleep @ night..Nena!
ReplyDeleteAND IF U NOTICE....NIGERIAN...Women look prettier in a natural hair or a simple braided hair..Brazillian and all has made so many look Masqueradial! lol
ReplyDeleteI HAVE BEEN PREACHING THIS MESSAGE FOR ETERNITY...IT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH TO KEEP UP APPEARANCES WITH WEAVE APART FROM THE FACT THAT one of the main reasons AFRICAN WOMEN don't wear their natural hair is because the only acceptable BEAUTY in the world is the BARBIE type. CULTURE and IDENTITY is totally eroded by this media and material influence in NIGERIA.
ReplyDeleteThe exact SAME reason why they BLEACH...to substantiate this point, I'd like ask if anyone has ever seen a WHITE person trying to attain an AFRO or wearing an AFRO WIG.
...it doesn't matter what i write on LIB. Its all deaf ears. Carry ON.
why is she using "attachment" :)?
ReplyDeleteLOL. ABI OH! Weaves for life oh!
ReplyDeleteSC
natural ke? but she used attachment in the two pics. please they are all hair extensions, its either you are rocking your own hair or not. dazall!
ReplyDeletechimamanda i hope u knw how much u brk my heart when u left only 2 get married 2 another man.
ReplyDeleteI wear my natural hair in a chic Afro with pride ...yes ke!
ReplyDeleteDee
Sweet! How I love this lady. Lili, nah now u come. Enough of kim k amd tonto. Na wa ooo.
ReplyDeleteNever been a weave fan. I used to just relax my hair. But I went for the big chop 2 months ago. It is the second and I hope last time I try to go natural. I failed the first time because I did not know how to care for it properly by myself. But now I have committed and I love the freedom, I feel very beautiful with it.
ReplyDeleteNow thats beauty of the day and not all these jaja weave wearing, pancake rubbing, photoshopped girls u put up here. This is pure, natural unadulterated beauty with brains for that matter
ReplyDeleteLove the new novel (Americanah )and her interview on book of the week in bbc radio 4....that was the 1st time i heard of her....and that was our best novel in our book club now.....Kudos girl!x....
ReplyDeleteMehn... Her hairdo's looks wow! Rich and well attended to...Natural and lovely!

ReplyDeleteThis is beauty. Exceptional
ReplyDeleteBecause she manage get better hair na mk her dy talk like this na, she for try be like me wen no get front hair from birth, nonsense abeg make she dy her lane.human hair for life for me
ReplyDeleteI like natural hair but I always think am not beautiful on it
ReplyDeleteWell I am natural as well but I wear weaves on occasion! but I love my natural hair actually I prefer it. and so does my husband. I cut it like a low cut 5 years ago and now my hair is half way down my back. The key is in whatever style you choose you need to take care of your natural hair. get it trimmed and conditioned and you will be great! the less you do the better. and stay away from relaxers they are the devil. They are carcinogenic and break off your hair I know from experience.
ReplyDeleteNamesake I used to have weaves but decided to go the natural route and trust me, my hair is more healthier and I look much younger. Many people here in the states always complement me on how good looking I am and how it gives me that innocent and natural look. Carrying natural hair is very easy. It's just that our society makes it sound like it is hard.
ReplyDeleteLove you to bits chidinma, have gone natural and loving every bit of it....you are an incredible encouragement
ReplyDeletePls say this to all black women we should leave weaves ooooo and embraces our African hair natural and cornrows for us please it is ours love and embrace it .
ReplyDeleteDis lady is wah we call beautiful. She's so so so beautiful. Goshh!
ReplyDeleteWhat does it profit a girl that feels 'on-I'm-so-natural' to lose her boyfriend to a Brazillian weave wearing girl? The hair is just one of the things we women copy from the Americana people. Our clothes, jewelries, toileteries, shoes, language, etc! She should make sure she uses leaves for clothes, cowries for jewlery, palm oil or ude nji for creame, black soap for soap and never be caught speaking any language buy Ibo. Msheeeeeew. She thinks cos she uses beads on her braids, she 'natural'? Abeg abeg abeg. Lemme hear word biko. Different strokes for different folks. You say its white, I say its black. You say its round, I say its rectangular. Calling out black women on weaves like that, saying we have low self esteem, is just foul. She shouldn't have even gone there. Her attachments are not expression. She buys them expensive. And they come from other women's hair as well. She should go and hug transformer for all I eff'n care! Mshhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww! She just shouldn't allow me to put pen on paper and write a biased review of this her new book. Oh wait, I just finally caught on, this was a cheap publicity stunt to put the word out there about her new book. She did well with the others without this myopic controversy, she just shouldn't have!
ReplyDeleteSooo aggressive. Did she strike a nerve? Chill.
DeleteLmao! But u read my mind o! I will not do brais cos it doesn't fit my face just as short weave won't but afros and long straight or curly hair does d magic I want. She should go learn jare. Everyman for himself, if I don't make my hair my bf automatically starts asking re u broke cos it doesn't suit me.
DeleteLinda pls help me ask LIB readers to advice me.
ReplyDeleteI have been happily married for two years and my husband has been such an amazing person. My hubby is such a supportive husband, we cook together, clean the house together, he even helps me to take out my braids and we have had a wonderful sexual relationship until recently.
My hubby loves to have sex and I have learnt to love it with. Sometimes I even go to his office during my off days for a quickie.
But recently he started having some sick fantasies of him eating chillie (I mean raw nigerian pepper) from my cooooch (vagina).
He says he just wants us to be adventurous and slice chillie there and he'll eat it up and blow me in the process.. Of cos I refused that but my hubby has become a totally different person since then and he is even looking for a young hotter girl that'l agree to this.
I really love him and I don't want Chillie to come between our marrIage.
Pls what should I do.
Tell him you should try the sliced chillies inside and on top of his willy and arsehole first as a practice run. Lets see how he enjoys it...what a selfish and sadistic fucker!
DeleteDee
Lmfaooooo
DeletePray! In good times pray in bad times pray
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, regal woman and hair styles. It's a no brainer. A million times more attractive than hideous weaves. My hair is my Glooory woohoo. I will not put someone else's glory on my head. The thought of it makes me sick. Weaves look like a total joke on black women. I stare at weaves and think are you serious? Grow your natural hair women and learn to take care of it. God gave it to you for a reason.
ReplyDeleteBloody hypocrite. The cornrows and dreadlocks she's carrying in these pix r natural ryt? Like its not synthetic. self righteousness
ReplyDeleteThe idea of wearing my hair naturally scares me, biko! My hair is very hard, I'm not ashamed of it but I can't bear that headache that comes with it. I'll rather cut my hair low.
ReplyDeleteUhm.. Have a seat! We do it because it's easier to maintain not because we are insecure or lack self acceptance. The brown highlights in your hair isn't 'natural' btw.
ReplyDeleteI did the big chop a lil over a year ago, I'm loving my natural hair, the experience has been tough and I considered relaxing it a couple of time, but fellow naturals like Geradine the great, curlynikki and co that motivate me! I'm loving every moment! Linda if you want weave to finish your hair oh well, we don't care!#stickstongueout#
ReplyDelete"For many black women, the idea of wearing their hair naturally is unbearable". #ThatsAll
ReplyDeleteKai Chimamanda! Is indeed the most beautiful woman indeed the most beautiful woman in the world. Very natural and clean.... Proudly Black Proudly African.
ReplyDeletegbam! Well said, Tell that to those chics in love with Brazillian, Chinese, Russian, and goat hair...:-P
ReplyDeleteLinda! I dare you to open the natural hair you have under your weave!....I'm sure you probably have a BRT lane on your hairline just like many Lagos "fine girl" do.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame many women in our generation can't do without weaves, i know alot of girls that cover their head the minute a man step in to the salon if they don't have their weave on.
Why do women talk about their hair so much? Nobody cares yo.
ReplyDeleteLinda this ÈŠ̝̊̅ƨ̣̇̇ ̶̷̩̥̊͡ha̶̲̥̅̊t we call beauty of d day infact d year.
ReplyDeleteHi linda I personally 4 1 2nd chimamanda on dis 1,I mean take a gud look @ her, dats natural beauty y'all every mans dream.God bless her.
ReplyDeleteSomehow i agree with her but its just that the weather here is too harsh to grow our natural hair unlike in the US. Most women in the US are more or less growing their natural hair. Personally, i have decided to go on natural hair whilst texturising it once in a while cos all these relaxers end up weakening hair than helping it. Not to talk of the disappearing front hairlines due to these human hair sef. Linda show us ur front hairline. Lol
ReplyDeleteActually you're wrong. Black hair grows better in warm climates, after all that's where we are from. The issue may be the availability of good products for taking care of hair vs being in America or Nigeria or whatever.
DeleteThe cold climate is terrible for black hair.
She's a natural.#nuffsaid.
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of black women who process their hair, wear weaves and do other things to try to get straight, oyinbo hair are suffering from low self-esteem. We have been so convinced that naturally kinky hair is 'bad', that even children these days wear weaves and perm their hair. It is crazy! And Linda, maybe you need to find out what actually motivates your hairstyle choices before you boldly proclaim 'weaves for life'. You are a blog writer whose words and actions could potentially influence some of your young and impressionable readers. Black people have a long way to go to reclaim their racial pride and self-esteem. I am always amazed at how we as a people, have largely come to believe that the hair God gave us is a mistake and a burden. Also, isn't it sad that black women, who have one of the highest population of poor and vulnerable females among them, are the ones who spend gazillions on hair extensions and hair straightening products; keeping the Asians in business? If I had the power, I would ban the importation of weaves! Finally, I find it really amusing and embarrassing when I see black women trying to flick their fake hair the way white women do ... LWKMD! Sad; really sad and pathetic.
ReplyDeleteLinda m wit ya..weaves for life!!!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh!dis is wat I call real African beauty.Blacks learn to appreciate ur own n know dat beauty is what u define it from within.Thank u Chimamanda*bb smiley Big smile*woman wey sabi!
ReplyDeleteshe is beautiful! beauty of the day for me...:-)
ReplyDeleteWell said sis..
ReplyDeleteVery soon they'll be fixing animal hair eg. Lion!
I love Chimamanda Adichie. She's one of the young Nigerians I truely admire. Very inspirational young woman, doing well for herself.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful and her hair suits her to a T.
I wish I could have my hair natural and not have to relax it or employ weaves but I have thick coarse hair and I don't know the first thing about managing natural hair.
Linda, not just weaves for life, but center parting till Jesus returns even as u watch ur hairline recede(mama iyabo for life). See how beautiful and natural she looks even without the peruvian and srilanka hair.
ReplyDeletetechnically that's not all her hair - she's wearing extensions - only she chose to braid it in than leave it straight like weave :)
ReplyDeleteMe personally can neva carry my natural hair ooh, where do I start from sef, 1) no front hair atall 2)the hair no dey long 3) the colour no good 4) it is so light and won't style all. Seriously, with all these, I hope I have been ab le to convince u and not confuse you dat I cannot be comfortable carrying my natural hair. Like linda sed, "weaves for life". DnameisTeesexy
ReplyDeleteNo b attachment u dey use?????abeg,park well.
ReplyDeleteI like wearing my natural hair.. But when carried for so long,.. It gets weak and break up!.. For I combine both!
ReplyDeleteIts true anyways.
ReplyDeleteBut i wear mine.
Its just that the weather sometimes affect the strength and growth of the hair especially during harmattan.
Not unbearable for me though I still prefer using wigs coz dey r easy to maintain n also dia versatility as to styling. On d oda hand Chimamda is one of my role models, she writes excellently.one can never get bored of her books. Can't wait 2read d 'Americanah' n let's I 4get,she luks gud too
ReplyDeleteAbegi no b everybody e fit o!
ReplyDeleteWell, she's simply stating her own truth Linda! she's not asking you not to wear your weaves!! why so defensive?
ReplyDeleteShe is pretty.first hand.
ReplyDeleteI love Chimamanda but I do not agree.. you see the thing abt all hair extensions and wigs and make-up etc. you cant take it away from woman round d world.. Even the finest women like Kim K and co are all guilty of this charge! so darling just allow black woman with the weaves and wigs its part of the process of eradication racism.. hehehehe
ReplyDeleteIf she has extremely coarse hair like mine, she wouldn't be saying that. Mine is so hard to manipulate, ve to retouch every month
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIs she jst trying to b annoying. Its so hard to carry natural hair it starts breaking and flaking + d cornrows she's carrying r both with synthetic attachment so Chimamanda don't b a hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteIs she jst trying to b annoying. Its so hard to carry natural hair it starts breaking and flaking + d cornrows she's carrying r both with synthetic attachment so Chimamanda don't b a hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteLinda, you should feature Chimamanda as the beauty of the day 'cause she's very pretty and intelligent.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely true. It is disgraceful to think that black ladies have been deceived over time that they need an artificial hair to look beautiful. I though I was the only one sharing this view. Why will a man want to pass his fingers through a fake hair, it's so boring. At some point after the woman leaves your bedroom, pieces of her hair will be flying everywhere in your room. It's filthy and I see this as a complex issue and lack of confidence. Oyinbis have already made them feel that they can never be regarded as pretty until they put on a weave.. We still under mental slavery... Lol
ReplyDeleteok
ReplyDeleteWonderful advice, natural hair always very lovely, bt I was born bald... So naaa weavon all d way
ReplyDeleteI love this Chimamanda like crazy. when I came to europe newly, I tried to change my accent until I listened to Chimamanda's interview. now I'm a typical IGBO boy. I mean, no English name 4my name ooooo.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Chimamanda!
Now this is what I call 'Beauty of the day'!! Au naturel!!! She has killer eyes!!!
ReplyDeleteWeaves are one of the greatest blessing to women *straight face*
ReplyDeleteCheck out my style blog here www.soladunn.blogspot.com
Yessoh! Weaves for life! Besides there's hair extensions on those cornrows in d pics....#so much for natural african hair ( ˘˘̯)
ReplyDeleteAm at a crossrd with my hair right now. Am thinking going natural bUt weaves will def be a part of me sha...wink
ReplyDeleteDis goes out 2 those girl who spend thousands on brazillian hair....no big deal in rocking ur natural hair!
ReplyDeleteWarahell is she talkn abt huh? Is dat attachment on her hair natural ni? Z evn a colord atachment sef. Plzzz eeh, black womens hair color is black and not colord. So, I tink Chimamanda is one of d insecured blak women too els, she wud hv jus braided her natural and stick to black color too. Morova, weda u put brazilian hair or evn thread, dey'r all stil atachment! U jus hapn 2 b one of us insecured women so ssshhhh
ReplyDeleteAll yea artificial hair and earing wearers will find dem selves in hell fire. Nutyn frm dis world will D̶̲̥̅̊ kingdom of God.artificial hair ÈŠ̝̊̅§ D̶̲̥̅̊ best. Linda if Ʊ lyk don't post ma comment
ReplyDeleteThis lady is NATURALLY beautiful! Unlike Linda Ikeji, her LIB readers and other celebs.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of girl one would like to take home for mama to see.
And she will be warmly welcome.
You damn right Linda! Weaves for life. I tried to do the natural hair thing but the thing no gree oh. I didn't relax my hair for 6 months and my hair got so thick and full but combing the hair was hell. Abegi Chinmanda, natural hair is not for everyone jare.
ReplyDeleteas in...i love ds lady like crazy...
ReplyDeleteheard she's married....chai....
She should tell that to girls who have scary looking hair.. I bet if she did she won't be saying that!.. I'm blessed with long, black and rich hair tho.. So any works fine for me *winks*
ReplyDeleteThis is pure coffee!
ReplyDeleteNo sugar.
No cream.
Adichie! You are an epitome of beauty and brain!
Linda! Stick with your weave...but you are not as beautiful as she is..natural hair for life
ReplyDeleteYes ooo! I support Chimamanda on that
ReplyDeleteits people like you chimamanda that are insecure! its called choices! whether anyone wants natural, rasta, permed, weaves, shaven etc. is a matter of CHOICE! we have varying textures of hair! with different lifestyles and ways of life that largely influences how we style our hair! you like your natural AFRICAN hair fine! the next person might not be able to manage their hair like that! its people like you that are insecure and repressed! sheesh! why don't we all do away with all our so called western clothes, shoes, technology and live in our traditional madhouses with our cornrows! im so disappointed! this article is shallow minded! open ur damn mind and stop being fucking racist! yes i said it! RACIST! black this, white that! its called freedom of choice and convenience! and to think i had some sort of regard for this lady!
ReplyDeleteStop shouting
DeleteYou are d insecured bitch dear.If u know Chimamanda Adichie very well ,u would never open the gutter u call mouth to utter rubbish. If I,moi, with my exposure and education can confidently say dat I have enough RESPECT for this chic, then believe it.She's all beauty and brains.
DeleteShe oozes confidence at all time.
Ms. Adichie is full of her self. Half the time, she doesn't think through what she wants to say before she says it. Being the author of a few half baked novels doesn't make her an authority on every subject. She happens to have long and full hair and not every woman is as lucky as she is. She should stick to her story telling. Can't stand that woman.
DeleteShe should be natural completely na.sge thinks its easy.out of three pics of hers is just one which she has her natural hair on.
ReplyDeleteLinda! You need a "like" button in here. Weave for life united!!
ReplyDeleteI like chimamada but trying to be pan African shouldn't be selective naa!why weave ur corn rolls with attachments?aint that artifice too?how's is it different from weaves? If u truly love ur kinky~headache inducing~hard to comb~nappy~hair, u won't ve to defend it all the time! #yawns#signed:wide eyed.
ReplyDeleteIt's not by force to go natural. All these other women who r natural thinks the rest of us are insecure abt ourselves if we choose nt to go natural. They dnt understand that not everyone can go natural n maintain it. I love natural hair n I wld love to go natural but my hair is so coarse it's hard to comb through it. I transitioned for 6months n I was going through hell with my natural hair so I say not everybody can go natural n if we dnt it does not mean we are insecured about ourselves or looks.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful...really dere s nothing as beautiful as a nice weave..makes u luk younger&cute but I guess we jst av a mentality dat weavons&wigs make us luk more sophisticated..wish I cld be like her tho..
ReplyDeleteI agree wiv Adichie. U kno Linda u wud look more beautiful wiv corn rows
ReplyDelete#stevebond007
Yea,I support her,is really beauriful wen u carry ur natural hair 4 a while.is gud 2 luk natural @tymz.4 me,I luk gud wen I style my hair.aunty linda, post my comment na or new Libers r no longer welcmd?
ReplyDeleteBut she has extensions on. What the diff with extension amd weaves. Pls the woman shud noy generalise. All this holier than thou nonsense. Has she met all african women?
ReplyDeletepretty lady, is dat a wedding ring, how cum no one hrd abt d stuff?
ReplyDeleteMy Igbo friend will say 'Odikwa natural'. Yes, this is indeed VERY NATURAL.
ReplyDeleteAdichie, you are my African Queen.
Now I lik u more linda, I told u to post this on ur blog and u did.. Really wana know how our girls react to it.. In btw I adore chimamanda, she is one of my best writers
ReplyDeleteShame on you Linda. This is your inferiority complex showing itself. It is your complex that makes you feel inferior while wearing your natural hair. It is this kind of complex that makes black ladies to bleach their skin because they feel being white is better than their blackness. Why should you be wearing a white woman's hair? Why must we be like them? Why can't they be like us? We have lost our priorities and that is why we don't achieve anything. I am all for one with Miss Adichie and that is how she has been able to speak and represent us well....Not with weaves of those feeling inferior of their naturalness.
ReplyDeleteget over ur big ass head...its not the hair but the person rocking it....
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chimamanda, she has said the correct thing. Many of us black feel too inferior with our natural state so we want to be like the whites. Nonsense. This is why we are considered nothing to them. Unfortunately someone like Linda buys this idea. Yes, she does and that is why you see her in weaves always. It is a shame to us blacks for not appreciating our nature.
ReplyDeleteI love dis woman
ReplyDeleteLinda u are fake den..
ReplyDeleteWonda why u wnt to b like oyibo dem wen dey demsef prefer deir natural hair..
Proud sister!! Not all those self hating negroes
ReplyDeleteThat is so not natural.. Attachment is added here.. The second pix is all natural bt the Ghana weaving, please!!! Natural is meant to be without extentions, attachment or chemical.. So make she park well make I see road.. Natural my foot..
ReplyDeleteLol yes linda, "weaves for life" until all ur front hair forget their arrangement and end up in d middle of ur head!
ReplyDeleteso, why does her hair have expression in it? natural my foot. Women decorate you hair to fit you.
ReplyDeleteI love dis lady,I love her hair in d 2nd pic. Linda, rocking black hair is slowing* as in snail* making its way into black women's conciousness. Oprah rocked hers not 2 long ago
ReplyDeleteI love you chimmamanda Adichie... U are a beautiful naturale..mwah! Writer of life! Role model. Much love
ReplyDeleteMy kind of a woman. I appreciates this lady a lot.
ReplyDeleteLinda that's your opinion,we all should go back to the roots. Have decided to go natural, best move so far as my hair has grown tremendously. Enough of all the fake weaves you all have on these days. I love Ngozie, she's doing us proud
ReplyDeleteChimamanda..Probably the best in class of current contemporary writers..Her simplicity, originality and deep intellectualism never ceases to amaze. She is truly an embodiment of the amazon values of the Nigerian and African woman.
ReplyDeleteKudos
ReplyDeletegreat woman always representing..... can't forget ur ted presentation (THE DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY).... GOD please give us more women of this caliber.
ReplyDeleteIt's no brainwash. Ppl who have difficult textures to manage seek to alter them. Blacks with unmanageable texture should not be judged or told they're not embracing their beauty. I'm natural and joined this movement to rediscover my natural texture. After 4 years is been ok because I have a great texture. It's kinky 4c yet for some due to density natural hair may not work. No matter if one is natural or not it has more to do with texture regardless of race. Ppl please ignore the hype out there.
ReplyDeleteChimamanda is beautiful !
ReplyDeleteWeaves forever...
ReplyDeleteMayo
For once I've seen someone who thinks like me. I just don't like them Wigs, weavons etc. Does it ever make them feel like it their real hair? Briades are bit better. I just prefer my woman to make her hair in any other way other than using an artificial hair to to cover fix or cover her real hair.
ReplyDeletey dont u post my comments @ linda, not nice...lol
ReplyDeleteThis is talking with your tongue in your cheek. The attachment she used in doing that 'Ghana weaving' nα her own?
ReplyDeleteDer is beauty in simplicity n dat is a sign of true African
ReplyDeleteNo be only natural. Just cos I haven't relaxed in 4mths, combing d hair is war!!!! Even with conditioning o. Abeg relaxer, braids n weaves jire!
ReplyDelete--Teeteelahyo--
Its not like she doesn't use extensions... She only has her natural hair in one photo.
ReplyDeleteI say do your thing and let other do theirs.
Look at those eyes...piercing, yet beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNo woman's hair is better than mine and I will not put another woman's hair type on a pedestal. I have my own glorious crown to wear and I will wear it in all it's magnificent glory.
ReplyDeleteKudos sister, you are a natural beauty, and your hair is simply glorious!
Waoh she's so adorable! Linda she can go as a beauty of d day not dat half done oyibo wit her albino bf u postd as beauty of d day.
ReplyDeleteWaoh she's so adorable! Linda she can pass for d beauty of d day not dat half done oyibo wit her albino bf u postd as beauty of d day.
ReplyDeleteI love Chimamanda but I have to disagree with her here. Wearing weavs is a choice. It is not about insecurity or self-esteem issues. I think long hair is sexy so I wear long weaves. It isn't about what the world says is beautiful but about what I think is beautiful. i have absolutely nothing against girls who keep well-groomed natural hair, they look great. I am a strong, beautiful, smart and very confident Nigerian girl, I like hair that gets to my waist-line so I wear weaves. It is my choice.
ReplyDeleteYou are more or lea being influenced on what is beautiful. That's the truth if all other races started wearing afros.or cornrows i bet you'd follow suit
Delete@Anon 8:30- seriously??!! Chillies from ur vijayjay? Is he even considering ur comfort? Ok. Fine. Pls tell him u want some chilli on his dick too so u can give him a blowjay and let him feel the sensations. Yes! I think that shld solve it. He's quite selfish and needs prayers. Lol
ReplyDeleteAnd all the cheap low self esteemed aristo chasing girls come out in the dozen to insult her. Na low self esteem dey worry una
ReplyDeleteYou igbos are something else. All this: "she is so beautiful" and "beauty plus brains" you are all yanring is mostly cos she is an "igbo" girl. You guys sometimes just support your people blindly. Who made chichi judge and jury. leave black women to keep the slave master mentality biko. If this was a yoroba babe im sure you would all have given it to her well well
ReplyDeleteSo you now know the tribe of all anonymous commentators?
DeleteLinda biko make her beauty of the year. She is smart, intelligent, confident, achiever, and very authentic. These are the qualities young nigerians should be trying to emulate.
ReplyDeleteok, i will say it once and for all, linda do a poll for men regarding the type of hairstyle they prefer. African women look prettiest and sexiest with braids and african attire. Eziokwu bu ndu!
ReplyDeleteWhere do I begin?
ReplyDelete1. There is a fundamental difference between using extentions that mimick your natural hair texture vs extentions that were cut off the head off a Peruvian, Brazillian, or Indian woman's hair. Do you see those women sewing African hair on their heads? No, because they prefer their own hair texture to yours.
2. Every black woman has some sort of course, "hard" hair. That doesn't stop you from learning how to care for it. There are books, blogs, and plethora of resources available to you if you actually care to learn. Your hair doesn't have to be hard or unmanageable if you use the right products and techniques.
You pple are unbelievable. Perhaps you should read what she wrote properly so u can get the message loud and clear.
ReplyDeleteIt is not about natural hair or not, it is about being secure and confident with your choices.
Do what u like, not what everyone else is doing.
Geeze!!!!illiteracy in naija is a serious issue.
Adichie is BORING - she doesn't present new material.
ReplyDeletenatural hair indeed, but you use attachment. it has nothing to do with confidence.Everybody has preferences. And am sure you texturize you hair and use all sort of artificial cream in it.Tell me what is natural about that...
ReplyDeleteyou are not better whether natural or weaves.
I Am Chimamanda's #1 fan! She's so beautiful and intelligent! I love my natural hair as well. But its hard to comb, especially during winter and spring it breaks and gets painful while running my fingers through it.
ReplyDeleteKai! Dis lady z pweety!!
ReplyDeleteShe is wearing synthetic attachments in all three pictures lol.
ReplyDeleteWeaves are hair attachments you can simply put on and off as you wish. To each their own, but these naturalists are starting to get on my nerves.
My dear Linda, this is what I call BEAUTY. This lady is naturally beautifully. She will look like herself when she wakes up in the morning. Not some of those "pretty" babes with fake hair, fake teeth, fake nail, and fake face. ha! ha! ha! ha! When you see those "pretty" babes when they wake up in the morning, you will not recognize them. Try it and see. Look for some of those your beauty of the day and ask them to send you their pictures when they wake up. You can then compare. You will be amazed that some of them will be word and opposite. lol!
ReplyDeleteThis is the original beauty of the day! Ha! Linda! This is a woman, African beauty in her natural hair! Abeg don't ever post all those papamulolo rubbing females as beauty of the day anymore. Even if you don't have front hair, there's a way you can package urself and still look beautiful except you are completely bald! Love this Chimamanda gurl.
ReplyDeleteChiamamanda the idea that u got married to another man not me is very unbearable too.
ReplyDeletethe insecurity part might be true. cos some people feel that they will not be beautiful if they wear their natural hair.
ReplyDeleteExactly @Miami, for anon 08.30,agree with him, and after he has chopped up d chili, FIRST, he must massage it deeply into his penis especially where the wee hole is, then leave it to marinade for a few minutes!
ReplyDeleteOnly females with low self-esteem are scared to wear their natural looks. #justsaying.
ReplyDeleteFood for thought for Linda and her weave -wearing cohorts. By the way, who said kinky hair was ugly!Just listen to yourself linda "weaves for life". How did our grandmothers manage their hair since there were no weaves at the time? wn i look at those old black and white pictures i noticed our grandmothers had big thick shiny hair.Linda go to your grannies and have the humility to ask them how they managed to care for their "ugly unmanageable kinky strong stressful shameful stiff rubber-like" hair. So our hair is ugly cos it doesn't flow when the blows, abi? Dat is why u go for brazilian and malaysian hair. Inferiority complex is killing us africans and u wonder why we are always backward. If only we could see ourslves the way our Creator sees us...really Linda, weaves ok but artificial hair for life... how do u feel wn pple compliment u on your "hair" and u take all the credit for hair that is not even yours? Oh i forgot. You bought it with your money so it's "yours"
ReplyDeleteSo laughable and sad at the same time, but that is our society today
#Team Natural Hair. I'm still transitioning. My 10th month though.
ReplyDeletewhy she add attachment to her natural hair now? let her stop to dey mumu herself jo she also has extensions in her hair
ReplyDeleteWow..She's talking about being natural with all that "expression" on her head. Puhlease!!!!!! Weaves are awesome!!!!
ReplyDeletenatural hair is good but what of the woman with thin hair that dont look good with low cut. they should hide them selves abi?
ReplyDeletelinda am wit u on dis...weaves for life.
ReplyDeleteLinda! This is what you should tag as beauty of the day. Not all those ridiculously made up and photoshoped assisted people, hissssssssss. Sick of them all. And post my comment.
ReplyDeletePeople asking why she has extensions is stupid! To add more length to her hair not to completely alter her look like a lot of Nigerian women do. They will wear 10 packets of weave while their real hair is as scanty as a new born baby's hair or Ramsey noah's hairline. Even Pete Edochie and Desmond have more hair than a lot of Nigerian women with their bald hair.
ReplyDeleteAnd extensions cannot hide baldness and receding hairline or baldness like weaves. She looks like an African woman and not a black one trying to be like the foreigners. Do not compare. They are different.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 1:35 AM
ReplyDeleteIf you can spend money and time on acquiring weaves on your head then you can invest in letting your hair grow to that length.
Black hair can grow to whatever length you want as long as you understand your hair.
We underestimate the beauty of our hair that's why a lot of us cannot show our real hair in public because we've fucked it up for fake hair.
Linda, this is d real beauty of the day!
ReplyDeleteI would wear y hair natural if i could get it to look as good as hers but kinkiness hasnt paid girls like moi
ReplyDeleteCall me what you like, but I have always thought it is the height of low self esteem to feel more comfortable adding hair thats not yours to your hair in order to look "beautiful".
ReplyDeleteI do not know who set the standard that beautifull hair must be oyinbo looking hair. "Civilized" Black people seems to me have bought into the Oyinbo narrative that we are inferior. Simple.
