How do you control your spending?

A lot of people young and old find it difficult to hold petty cash. They have a habit of spending money once it gets into their hands. Sometimes people would rather give cash to a close friend or siblings to hold for fear of blowing it - mostly on things that they don’t need. The obvious answer is to save the money in the bank and perhaps seize from holding a bank card in order to avoid frequent visits to the ATM machine.

At the same time, they wouldn’t want to find themselves in an awkwardly stranded and cashless situation one day without cash or access to any funds. What if they need to buy airtime to call someone? What if the car has a flat tire and cash is needed to pay the vulcanizer?


What if a younger sibling asks for some money? What if they need to pay for an item at the supermarket? What if they DSTV expiration occurs in the middle of an interesting show or just before the Champions league final? How do they pay on the spot? Or even pay for PHCN bills?

    Reading the topic, I tot this was a money saving scheme. This is another avenue for me to spend more ...even at 1am in the night when an atm might be far away. All u just did was bring it closer. Thank you, not interested.

    There's no difference. This could also lead to spending money anyhow. It's probably even worse because you know you have the total in your bank account to spend so you are tempted to buy even more expensive things than the amount of money you carry.

    I'm one of such. I can't stay without having raw cash. Always spending. It worries me thou. I usually don't keep a lot of money where In the account which I have an ATM. That way I don't get to spend all my money in a week.

    I just got the app today and after I loaded the wallet, I was able to make a withdrawal on the ATM without a card.....that was really cool. Thumbs up on this product.

    There is no crime in advertising a product. Just don't say one thing and mean another thing. How does first money help in savings. With my atm card I have to move to the machine or a POS to make a withdrawal or payment but with this product I can buy things 24hrs 7 days a week and you say it supports savings. Linda, I don't know how much you were paid but stop with the false advertising. You are only lying to your readers to promote a product that is actually good. Call a spade a spade.

    This doesn't help you save money in any way. I use the UBA version, 'Umobile' and since I got it, I spend more. I buy things online that I don't need, buy airtime unnecessarily, lend money to ppl. WHY?? Because it's much easier to transact. I'd rather hide my money under the mattress.

Coz i am a victim, my own problem again is that when i get money, and people beg me i give them coz i feel like they should have it, but when i go broke no one gives me, and i forgive them.     I am of a slightly different opinion. I understand that the post started off as a regular article and ended up being an advert but I also understand the concept of mobile money. However, I don't know specifically about the services of Firstmonie.

    The post doesn't talk about saving money. Ordinarily you save money in the bank, it addresses the issue of spending the money you hold on useless things. For example I have N2000 in my wallet and I spend it spontaneously as I move around on my daily activity, cake this minute, icecream the next hour, a 3rd phone case before evening and the final part of the money goes to airtime. However if that N2000 was on my mobile phone, as I go along during the day, I would not have bought all of those things, perhaps I would use it N400 of it to recharge my phone and I could send another N500 to my sis. The N1100 will remain on my phone for something else and not cash in my hand to blow.

    @Ajiifixing Thats not true at all. Firstmonie *894# is definitely the best. I have used it for 2 months now and before that I was using *909#. I don't regret changing! I have the Firstmonie Android app, I can also use it by dialling *894# and there's the web version too. I can conveniently fund my Firstmonie e-wallet at any FirstBank ATM, a feat I could hardly enjoy with 909.

    Linda, we love your blog but this is a straight advert. First monie simply ensures that the 'ATM' is closer to you than ever before. Now, how does that help in spending?
