Wonder how much houses will go for in there? Eishhhh!
ReplyDeleteInstead of doing this, why not build new low, medium and high cost housing estates like festac town, Jakande /Gowon estates all over Lagos? Just like council flats in UK. I don't understand the kind of leadership that we have in this country. It is very difficult to find affordable accommodation in Lagos and yet Fashola is doing this. I guess Everyman unto himself, the poor for the poor and the rich for the rich.
ReplyDeleteSame thing i was thinking. These trillions could have been used to remodel the entire mainland. And then afterwards, Eko Atlantic city should have commended. I mean how will Lagos ever look like other real industrial international cities line Singapore or even Dubai?
DeleteSo that poor and dirty people like u will mess it up just like they've messed up fest ac. Carry go joor oga jonathan. Nice 1
DeleteEko atlantic is being created through a public private partnerhsip. The funds are not from government pocket. Plus their are vast benefits from the project. Including shoreline protection. Increase of land space. Population density reduction. Job creation.. Creation of investment opportunities.. And tourism.. Jus to name a few.

ReplyDeleteGuess the govt is yet to learn its lesson especially with the Bar Beach. You claim to reclaim land from the ocean. Hope you don't wake up one day and the ocean decides to 'reclaim' its land back from you.
DeleteDis is nt d 1st time land is being reclaimed neither is it only in 9ja is done.whr do u tink most beautiful islands come frm?
DeleteSigh...I thought fashola was a wise man. They always do d right tin at d wrong time 4 d wrong reasons. And dey say CAN is better dan pdp. Dey r all dsame 2 me. I hope none of my loved ones will b der d day d ocean decides 2 claim its land back. This people never learn.
DeleteThis is serious. Are human beings going to live there or Angels?
ReplyDeleteRelationship Conflicts: The 4 Ds
Lol, dats funny
DeleteI just feel this country has lost it's priorities. Ppl are suffering n starving while they feel its better to spend trillions on a land full of water that had been sand filled . This place is for the riches definitely an average Nigerian can never afford to live in Atlantic city . It's such a shame. Where is hope ?
ReplyDeleteHow much was cliton paid this time around?
ReplyDeleteCan someone just dash Clinton their green passport quickly and let him be the Nigerian President going forward!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo need for voting sef
God bless you Mr Clinton. As for the rest.... Fashola, tinubu, Jona and co! Y'all can kiss my ass. Go and fix your country jare!!!

ReplyDeleteHillary is hitting the speaking circuit for milions of Dollars. Good living men.
Noveou rich black leaders are smoozing and frolicking with leaders who put their houses in order. They should have built d atlantic ciry first b4 this money gobbling Photo op with bill. The more u look,d less u see!
Signs of greater things to come. Congratulations to Gov Fashola and the great people of Lagos who elected him! I hope Gov Fashola realizes that it is in Lagos interest that he collaborates with surrounding states and have some significant progress. Think of any Nigerian family that has only one successful person. The whole family and community will try to milk that person dry. So for that successful person to protect his wealth, he has to teach others how to make wealth. This will reduce the burden on anyone state. If Lagos can do it, all other states can do it. Forward ever, backward never. for more inspiration check out www.fisherpersonality.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletewhat we want to see are pictures of the building or whatever it is not bill clinton.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Now lets see how much a plot will be worth?
ReplyDeleteFasholaaaa!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice one! Lagos setting the pace! I expected to see some on the scene pics of the actual developmental interplay at the city presently though. I guess this is just the ceremonial opening of it then.
ReplyDeleteGEJ looks like the village drunk and BAT looks like a gremlin.

ReplyDeletewhere is the city linda o.

ReplyDeletemadame?
Linda you are too much, I respect you babes. Pure respect.
ReplyDeleteBtw, Fashola is an active and excellent govenor in the center of excellency *winks*. Wish he would contest for presidency come 2015, amma vote for him ten times. He has a great vision and he's passionate about this country, other state govs shud emulate him and throw away sentiment to the trash. They should be focused. I sincerely n genuinely love people who work hard. I have come to realize that it's not about belonging to PDP,Apga etc that matters, it's about the individual governor who's governing his state. Is he capable ? That's the question. If all of them shud do away with sentiments about political parties, all will be well. I saw Tinubu grinning from ear to ear in this pix, even Mr President Goodluck Jonathan. Good attaracts good, welldone Mr Bill for coming once again to Nigeria to encourage more milestone achievements such as this. I love ma country n will forever do. Where I stay in the States, assuming Nigerian govt has the opportunity that they have, Naija sure wud be a Mega planet all together, but we shall get there one day... (My first time of commenting here)...Chantella
Welcome!
DeleteIs this going to work? Well let's watch and see , but I don't think this is what we really need now. This badagry international road need more attention than every other thing in lagos now

ReplyDeleteSo proud to be a Nigerian/American.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
Tower of Babel
ReplyDelete5,000,000 SQM and 5 SQKM........all na the Same; but sha, recovering a 5 SQKM from the Ocean isn't a child's play sha!!!
ReplyDeleteBut I hope they recompense the Ocean by dredging it in the appropriate place; otherwise.....................Ts*n*mi
Kmbt onto d next 1 pls, like seriously wil dis affect d price of garri in market?
ReplyDeleteFashola make sure you complete that Ozumba Mbadiwe road before you commence on this Atlantic City Project o. That project has been abandoned since last year and as a tax payer am sick of the traffic I have to face to and from work cos of that road o.
ReplyDeleteNice innovation Fashola!
ReplyDeleteI hope the atlantic ocean will not come back for its lands o..hmmmm.
I sure say Oga alpha beta for don buy 2/3 of the land and other "well meaning" Nigerians would have bought the remaining 1/3...may God help us in this country,
ReplyDeleteFashola looks Soooooooooooo dignified beside Clinton. Fashola for president mhen. Please visit www.enterquo.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteAll of criticing, first of all his has to create a place for d rich cos dat would bring investment and job opotunities, also when ders flow of cash in d system der wld be allowance for further development.rembr u can't do witout d rich.
ReplyDeleteWondering if this would really work.....FYI this is a project initiated by the Lebanese business man Mr. Ronald Chagoury, and other external foreign investors + the support of the Lagos state government....so before you scream Fashola, Fashola, remember you'll be milked pretty soon! That neighborhood ain't for the cashless, the land has been reclaimed, the layout and architectural drawings, the master plan and models are ready...but no building has been put up yet..its purely a business venture...wrapped nicely in the cloak of infrastructural development.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of everything was that, they didn't disturb traffic. The roads were as FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE as sunday morning i come dey fear sef.I am so sure Bill wasn't paid the same WHORE-ish sum Kim was paid.
ReplyDeleteSeriously no fotos 4rm de enviroment we knw all dis ppl na
ReplyDeleterubbish total insensitivity to other issues
ReplyDeleteWhy is the deputy governor standing so afar off and tinubu + tambowal standing so next to the governor ....
ReplyDeleteWhat is Tinubu doing there
ReplyDelete@ ANON 9:57
DeleteTinubu is standing there because he initiated the project.
Fashola is still d best so far, not like other states... nice t hv a place like dis in dis country specially Eko, weldon sir gd job indeed.
ReplyDeleteWhen people ask questions like ' where r the structures?' It makes me wonder if they r ignorant or plain stupid. Have they ever heard of a reclaimed land with houses built on it already? Anyway, for ur info.... They just spent billions of dollars for that project and expect the billionaires to buy per sqm at whatever amount. Thereafter, the owners will build whatever kinda edifices they desire... Maxydollar
ReplyDeleteTrust our calebs would be hustling to get a place there by now.
ReplyDelete@ Anon 10:15
DeleteWhich stupid celeb are you talking about.. Do you think this is a pla e for yoursi called celeb who have a few bobs in their bank balance we talking serious money not money for auctioned secondhand SUV
This is another high step for lagos .fashola governor like president weldone for your hard working in lagos ?
ReplyDeleteONLY IN NIGERIA DAT U SEE D SO CALLED LEADERS MAJORING IN MINOR ND MINORING IN MAJOR, LOST DIR SENSE OF PREFERENCE.... GOD HELP DEM
ReplyDeleteTake a look at the interlocking pavement stones they are standing on. They couldn't even fix them properly. Hmmmm...... Wonder what the overall project will look like... tacky and substandard as usual!
ReplyDelete@Olu, February 22, 2013 at 2:45 AM - I don't agree that the government should build council houses as they have in the UK- in fact, the UK government is now trying to sell off their stock of properties after realising that it cost such a huge amount of money to build and to maintain and also, it attracts all the underclass of society. The best way forward is for the government to create an enabling environment so that ordinary Nigerians can live according to their standard. In any case, the government did build something call federal housing estate in Lagos and predictably enough, ordinary Nigerians themselves were corrupt and cheated the government out of its due revenue
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose Smart Cit is appropriate for EKO Atlantic. Why don't we wait and see the energy saving, the transportation, the communication, the power generation, etc before calling it a smart city. Nigerians and their big grammar.
ReplyDeletehhmmmmmmmm wot is it kol-Altantic ocean whc country ar we self whr a lot of abandoned project ar there abi not even an average man can avoid to buy dis definitely is 4 d rich pple.may God av mercy on us
ReplyDeleteWhen mammy water ready, she go come carry her property back. I can't shout.
ReplyDeleteme, na the lives of the people wey go live there i pity sha. i hope say the atlantic no go engage the residents in a fierce battle one day.
ReplyDeleteWell My fellow Lagosians, I have read your comments both positive and negative comments. Good, one point that i want to bring to your attention is Eko Atlantic city may not be the best investment now due the level of suffering in Lagos city. People are suffering, but at least Gov Fashola has done some things that we have seen. Some of the projects that he executed has improve Lagosians standard of living to certain extent. Had the previous administrations done well before Gov Fashola, Gov Fashola won't have too much hard work to do? What i don't understand is what the hell that useless man Bola Tinubu was doing at the occasion. When he was Gov what did he do? All the funds that Fashola spent to execute projects were also allocated to the state during Tinubu's administration, what did he do with the money? The money went directly into Tinubu and his cronies pockets. Ole shi, agba iya, onikun gbendu. Now he calls himself Asiwaju...(Asiwaju ko, ero eyin ni). With all the money he stole, yet he looked sick. That president Goodluck, he should wake up, he knows boko haram are on his case. Boko haram will soon over throw him. Ole oshi. So, my fellow Lagosians, let us join force and celebrate Fashola.
ReplyDeleteYou re so correct with ur comment. If you teach people how to make wealth, every body will be independent. This is so true
ReplyDeleteSo what this Photo ops and gimmick is all about is to advertise that d space, the lot is now ready for sale?
ReplyDeleteNaah won't touch dat! That billion spent reclaiming the land could easily be wiped away by a simple tsunami making the occupants of such expesenive structures sitting ducks for natural disasters and human sacrifices. Can't touch dat!
This our so called leaders need to be flogged, you're building a housing project for less than one percent of the population and you're making a big deal out of it. I wonder why President Clinton accepted to be part of this charade. I hope there will be a project for the poor and middle class in this new mammy water city of corruption
ReplyDelete1 comment: Council flats like in the UK do not develop cities!
ReplyDeleteevery day of my life i pray for nigeria to have a leader like sheik mohamed makatoum of u.ae ,a man i have come to love so much ,a man that wants every good thing for his people now ,at first i thought fashola to be a good leader ,but after i see this altlantic bullshit ,i know his like the rest of them, ajegunle still have slumps in agege ,iyana ipaja ,nigeria leaders wake up ,for the sake of your future generation ,wasting resource over nonsense,God of elijah come down and consume nigeria ;leaders they are all wicked in heart.
ReplyDeleteIt worked in HOLLAND and people are still leaving on the reclaimed land so also in the UAE... Infact the company handling the project are Dutch. This is how the likes of Bill and Tony Blair makes millions by appearing and giving lectures after they've made huge impact in their countries... I wonder who will pay to listen to president Big Nose Jona who speaks without confidence. MORON!
ReplyDeleteAccording to CNN Bill has made $65m since leaving office and he's paid at least $175k for delivering lectures. Obama I predict is ginna be the richest president in history when he leaves office. I wonder who will pay to listen to Jona... Fashola seems a guy who would rake in the buck too at least in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteNigerians love to applaud rubbish! what are you guys applauding Gov Fashola for? Is this how they would address the issue of poverty affecting Nigerians? how would this affect your lives positively? absolute rubbish!
ReplyDeleteLagos state govt makes a lot of revenue from tax yet we get nothing. Healthcare -zero, Education -zero etc.All they think and care about is how to enrich themselves. i am disappointed in Clinton for showing up! he should advise the fools to invest in better things to alleviate poverty.
Its unfair that my comment where i clearly spelt out why this is a white elephant and doesnt bode well for the local economy was not released. Its starting to seem we all contribute our quota to this darkness.
ReplyDeleteALL OF U ASKIN FR PICTURES OF D BUILDIN N INSULTIN FASHOLA , DO U GUYS HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY DID AT ALL? THERE R NO BUILDINGS YET THEY JST SAND FILLED D PLACE WIL PUT UP STRUCTURES LATER.
ReplyDeleteIts a brilliant idea but why spend so much money and Nepa will still take the light...To what end..? Electricity plays an important role in making a city FINE.. God bless Nigeria
ReplyDeleteYou see all those men gathered in the group pictures? Those are the men that have alrdy bought the entire city, with Tinubu the chief buyer of most of the land there. A tollgate and an airport will still be erected to demarcate it from the entire region of lagos. Mark this!!
ReplyDeleteASIWAJU TOH BAD
ReplyDeleteGRAND MONOPOLY
I'm sure he owns like Half of that Land. Thief of life
DeleteDONT PLAY WITH MOTHER NATURE!!
ReplyDeleteGreat men of great ideas...
ReplyDeleteLasgidi all the way
I cant but wonder how self centered and unreasonable our leaders can be. I don't even want to imagine how expensive it is to sand fill an ocean when the whole country practically live in total darkness and they keep promising endlessly. Fashola is no better than other rogues that we have as politicians.Constant light no dey, road no good, hospital services are epileptic and they talk of Atlantic city..SMH for the future of Nigeria when there would be a serious gap between the rich and the poor....WATCH OUT!!!! The Atlantic City gate would read "THIS CITY IS OUT OF BOUND TO THE POOR". I rest my case
ReplyDeleteLovely project, but this is obviously misplaced priority, in a state where housing is one of the biggest issues we have, they should build low cost houses, and estates instead. Lyk council flats in theUK, and in Asia .
ReplyDeleteCool, I mean so cool that is wonderful enough, but they shouldn't politicize it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a misplaced priority. Cant remember when I last had public water supply to the many places I have lived in Lagos, even now in my house it is same borehole (self effort), yet we have spent billions to RECLAIM land from the ocean to build a new city, and they tell me it will create jobs because they want to make this "mistake" look good.
ReplyDeleteFine project but not now.
Billions of dollars on a project like this has the capacity to do much more for the economy than any welfare/charity housing project for the poor.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how many low cost housing projects you build, there will always be poor people looking for places to stay. it makes more sense to create opportunities for poor people to elevate themselves.
For example, when telecommunications started in Nigeria, people were talking about how the big companies were coming to rip us off instead of looking at the opportunities.... since then millions of Nigerians have started making a living and more in telecommunications. I personally know someone who started supplying recharge cards, bought a car and started helping his parents before he finally got a job in NNPC or somewhere.
It's going to be the same thing with Eko Atlantic City, instead of complaining, see the opportunity. Except if you are lazy, uneducated, skill-less and jobless. This project has the power to enhance the state's (and your)economy in a big way.
Due to the new local content laws 80% of the construction work has to be done in Nigeria. 60% of the construction workers have to be Nigerians, a large percentage of the materials will also be locally sourced. What does that mean for Engineers, Architects, welders, etc? Jobs! and money! Money that will trickle down and touch almost every aspect of the Lagos economy.
The best part is that unlike a housing project which has no commercial use after commissioning. Eko Atlantic city will continue to have significant cultural and financial impact on the economy as long as the ocean does not take it away (and it shouldn't.. if it's done properly.)
So stop whining about housing project and look for your own opportunity.
Well said ma'am
DeleteWell said ma'am
DeleteU stupid spoilt brat becos ur father is rich n wud buy a property there u r chatting bullshit. U r talking absolute nonsense. Have u been to remote areas in Lagos. Have u seen small kids hawk n cry for food. Is it their fault they are poor. Why do we have a govt. shud citizens not be taken care of, so what stupid impact r u talking about. It's not a work place, it's for the riches n only the riches , all that money cud be spent on health care. Education . Electricity etc. don't loss me off with ur senseless reasoning . #rubbish
DeleteWas looking for pictures of the 'city'.....
ReplyDeletedis one wey i see these boys, na waoh, dem wan sell lagos?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was done properly. Water can't take it back unless a Tsunami which is unlikely. Half of the islands in UAE re sandfilled
ReplyDeleteEko Atlantic city. I will live dere definitely. Ride on Fash. Its ur pharm
ReplyDeleteit's so sad to have insensitive leader's in this country, accommodation is expensive in lagos, why make it worse, WHY???
ReplyDeleteDis atlantic is meant for big man!
ReplyDeletemore income for the Lagos island which leads to it been more developed than the mainland and less attention to the Lagos mainland because it's not bringing in much income.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.tripleclicks.com/12116301
To all you naysayers, so you are saying that private investors shouldn't work on improving the image of Lagos?
ReplyDeleteIs it such a bad thing that PRIVATE money is being RISKED AND INVESTED in trying to improve an overpopulated city?
Is it such a bad thing that Lagos will be attracting all the headquarters of multinational companies thanks to such a project?
I am confused, if you naysayers want to develop other parts of Lagos, why don't you?
Maybe you naysayers actually want this private money to be invested overseas...Then again, you naysayers will then complain about why this money isn't invested in Nigeria.
Instead of talking down such initiatives, maybe it is time you focused your energy on actually finding solutions. The project is a great initiative to put Lagos on the world map, and Nigeria with it.
Well I commend Fashola for such audacious vision. However,The Government of the day should know that a greater percentage of Nigerians are really poor. They should have a vision for elevating our people from poverty.Singapore is where they are today because their leaders thought first about developing the human capital before infrastructure.Building great cities with many poor people around is like building a beautiful house in slum infested with many rats. It will be a pity if Fashola leaves office and does nothing for the less previledge and down trodden like Lateef Jakande.
ReplyDeletehope it was sand filled properly sha, no be d one wey mami wata go dey come August visit!
ReplyDelete
