  16. Sure Eboue is right...Nigeria is indeed a joke. This would only scare away small business owners trying to invest in Nigeria. Other consulates solicite for visa calls while nigeria charges a wooping somee of $2.50 per min. Surely you nothing but a JOKE.

  17. Linda this is funking crazy... Imaging they are just loooking for every means of exploiting the citizen. Thats too much. And yet, they can give $15,000 to ordinary crawling eagle just to defeat d Ivorians.. http://icon5ive.com

  18. This is OUTRAGEOUS!!

NOWHERE in the US do you pay for calling or making inquiries about services...ONLY Protitutes uses the 1-900 numbers!!

Why not install 1-800 toll-free number like most business and embassies do?

Some fool just sat in the office and came up with this STUPID IDEA to start using PROSTITUTES phone numbers to charge their own citizens for calling them at the Nigerian embassy...so the Nigeria Govt & Embassy is now a PIMP, stealing and raping it's cizitens for more $dollar$$

This is going to affect Nigerians who dont have embassies located in their US cities & states...otherwise, why bother to call them when you can just DRIVE UP TO THEIR OFFICE AND CUSS THESE FOOLS OUT!!!

    NIGERIA IS JUST STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Its already affecting Nigerians who live in the west coast o, (California and its environs)no Embassy anywhere close, u have to go all the way to Newyork or Atl cos they don't do online anymore. Very frustrating.

  19. That's just ridiculous! Why should nigerians have to be charged a whooping $2.50 just to talk to make enquiries?? What happened to toll-free 1-800-numbers? Just ridiculous smh!!

  30. In the past they would never answer a call in Nigerian house NY. If this means that calls would be answered and inquiries attended then its a welcome development. But the rates are rather on the high side. why do we tend to do things over the Top?

    ReplyDelete
  31. 900 Numbers are SEX lines or for prostitutes and Nigeria government are not far from stuff like that. It can only happen in Nigerian embassy and no where else in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  32. NA WAOH.... WE DON 2 SUFFER FOR THIS COUNTRY SHAA... THIS ONE BIG WAY TO EXPLOIT NIGERIANS.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They are jokers - as usual. Instead of it being a toll free line they wish to slap the cost on poor citizens. The annoying thing is that one could be on hold for soooo long that one mite end up in bankruptcy!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Stupid Leaders... God will judge u one day #soon#

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's crazy out there. They should rather pay attention to solving their customer service issues. I called to make enquiries on how to apply for an infant visa, it took my calling 4 times for someone to pick up and when she finally did, she was very rude.

  41. I was in the Nigeria low comission the other day after surviving the politics at the door. While wating over 6hrs for a document although i had an appointment, some oyibo came inside the place and saw the commotion inside that dirty jampacked place...just took a picture of the scene and left. The moral of the story is that all Nigerian missions abroad contribute to tarnishing Nigeria's image.

  42. Note to the Nigerian embassy.we wont be calling you. maga recognize maga.dont know why people cant be honest anymore.sending Nigeria to its own death sentence by stupid words and actions around.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think we knock ourselves too much!! The Nigerian embassy is not the only embassy that uses 1-900 premium lines. The charge can be as high as $3 and it goes to the phone company (mostly). Dozens of embassies including US (in the UK), Italian, Portuguese and UK embassies use 900 lines because, like someone correctly noted earlier, it helps to ward-off prank calls.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Of corse this is NOT ok... especially if one is calling for general inquires. Plus it's expensive!! #toopoor

  48. Linda,
Can you see that this is stupid. First of all, Nig embassy in nyc is the worst place to go to get your passport/ visa. Customer service is totally bad and if anyone picks up, they give you the wrong information. Why would they be charging if one needs to call for inquires. Nigerians please when are we going to change. This is really the most stupdiest thing ever. GOSH

  52. Who wants to talk to them sef! tswwwww!

  53. Calling the British consular or visa section in Ireland is €1:75, it's the practice for most embassies round the world, except that, there # dedicated to helping their citizens but all calls regarding consular ie passport, visa etc are charged at premium rate. But I fear if you'll ever get service. Nigeria embassies round the world are the worse ever seen, it's line a typical market and the staff are bleeding rude. Sometimes citizens are locked out in the cold it's SAD!

  61. am surprise some pple blame GEJ for tins like dis.
Listening to AIT now, its jst been confirmed that d corruption in Nigeria is in d ministries...civil servants.
It starts from down to up and not up to down as u guys tink.
On dis mata, am sure by the time FEC hears abt dis, they wil order its outright stoppage. But by then, d foolish brains behind dis must hv made some cash. To bad for civil servants.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh! Nigerian consulates are they worst consulates located in USA. They rarely answered their phone, they are very rude and disrespectful. Their customer services is whack. One can be on hold for over an 1:30min(not exaggeration). They still do man know man. NY and Washington DC office are not civilized yet. They are rude both on phone and in office. I rather use American passport to travel to Nigeria if my Nigerian passport has expired. RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hope they also have another number for stammers ....

    ReplyDelete
  64. This is outrageous! Haba! I havent heard of any consulate here in the US doing that, to think that not a lot of foreigners want to come visit as it is, they are only scaring away the few that are interested...mccchhhewww and this people are so useless, you will call their office and they will be shouting at you as if they are in the market, no sense of civilization whatsoever! chai! when are we going to move forward????

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is so not ok at all. They pay $20.00 monthly for a landline and now they are going to charge $2.50 per minute? This is crazy and outrageous. If phone companies charge $20/month, why on earth will they charge us by the minute? Whoever that is responsible for this must be retarded and will never escape karma. Making it toll free, is it too much to ask for with all the money they extort and steal from tax payers?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Our govt is so whacked, always tinking of themselves witout tinking abt d masses dat elected dem into d various offices

    ReplyDelete
  67. Make dem pick up the calls first before they start talking about charging anybody squat! Retarded Govt and their dumb policies!!

    ReplyDelete

  68. i live in dublin and to call the uk consulate is 1.50 per min and the american is abt 2euro, nigerians would have no issues paying this but when it comes to your own consulate complains complains! hissss

    ReplyDelete
  69. something like 25cents per minute sounds more reasonable. I'm sure they'll be the same people to keep you on hold forever, waiting!
    These people are fucking useless.

    ReplyDelete
  70. LOL the US embassy does that too (at least they used to, don't know if they've stopped). However, no one is asking the right questions seeing as it's Nigeria.
    1. Do they start charging from when the phone rings (even before you get the recording telling you 'press 1, press 2')or from when someone answers or you get a recording?
    2. If they've gone to lunch and you have to listen to some fake accent tell you they've gone to lunch, are you getting charged for listening to the message?
    3. If it rings and no one EVER answers, do you still get charged?
These may sound like stupid questions, but we know that with Nigeria, NOTHING is impossible

    ReplyDelete
  71. This is a call in the right direction. I studied and use to live in the UK. If you ever dare to call the American consulate in the UK, u will pay 1.8pounds and the same applies for most european countries. Nigeria didnt start it. The west has been doing it for ages.

    ReplyDelete
  72. thats ok..as long as they pick up the phone promptly and provide excellent customer service

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's even more expensive to call the Nigerian high commission in London!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sorry o, who actually calls 'em, anyway?...Jokeez!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Rosie Said......ONLY IN NIGERIA,will you find your country charging you money to speak to them. You are already paying air time form your phone companey, then you also pay for the person at the other end, what a shame.I really don't know who advises them, and must they take any STUPID idea some dumb person gives them.I WEEP FOR MY COUNTRY.(Emphasis mine)

    ReplyDelete
  76. What is everybody complaining about, dont we pay through our nose to get some bloody Uk visa, or have our passport seized for almost 3 mths for canadian visa in the name of getting a VISA.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Linda, guys what the US embassy charges is childs play compared to the Nigerian Canadian Embassy, where we are charged $3 per minute for calling your own embassy.

The staff members there are not literate enough for the western world. Imagine that one of them said that "but an email was posted to the website now" trying to say a message was posted on the website page.
