Majek Fashek chained at his home over deteriorating mental health

Majek Fashek is suffering from Schizophrenia according to the doctors taking care of him and his condition is getting really bad. Since he disappeared over the holidays and reappeared in January, he has been uncontrollable. People close to him said he overdid the drugs this time around and his mental illness has deteriorated seriously. People around his neighborhood in Gowon Estate Ipaja now avoid him like a plague. He walks around talking to himself and sometimes sits at a bus stop around his area playing his guitar while little kids make fun of him. To stop him from roaming around, and maybe hurting himself, sometimes people who care for him chain him at his Ipaja home, especially when he gets really out of control.

Some people are saying it's a spiritual problem. Whatever it is, hope he gets serious help before it's too late. Such a sorry situation.

  1. Chain him bitibawo? Just like they chained Rasheed Yekini inside his house and he died. He needs medical aid. He ought to be taken to a psychiatric unit, to help, not chain him like a monkey or a dog. Pls let's speak out before he's killed. My advice for everyone, pls say no to drugs.

  13. So sad. He was so talented.

Shouldn't he be in a mental institution? Why are they giving him money, he will only buy more drugs. If the governors and NGOs want to help, they should fly him to a mental institution/rehab center in US.

    1. Guy,spirits don't push people to take hard drugs.it's either moving with the wrong kids or sheer stupidity that makes these people start taking these drugs. Once they start, there's no stopping them. For almost 20 years of my life,I knew a drug addict.he should have played an important role in the lives of his family but he chose drugs and till today,it's still a problem to us because he didn't stop until about forty years after. Now,he has dementia at an age when some of his mates are still working and making an impact. Honestly, most times I don't feel sorry for him even when I want to. It hurts that I had to grow up with such trauma because of the choices he made. I'm not up to 30 but his choices took some of my youth away and I knew things a child shouldn't know. So,don't tell me it's spiritual.

  61. Grew up in the hood around majek fashek in anthony village, was in the same class(primary 3) with Randy Fashek and Majek just bought that American spec 505. He was a handome man and people loved him and his music...that was 1987 i think, send down the rain was the sound then. He went to America and when he came back they were coming to weed spot in Arowojobe to buy weed in sacks from under power line...that's when i knew something was wrong cos he already looked so drugged all the time and i'm talking 1995 here...almost 20years later i weep to see this man like this. He was billed to be as great as the great Bob Marley but see him now...moral of the story is that as sad as it looks please let this be a cautionary tale to the youths of nowadays...Majek might already be beyond rehabilition. There are so many vices promoted by popular culture today, its is getting exceedingly difficult to walk the straight and narrow in a world where anything goes. LIVE AND LEARN
