Watch Nollywood movies on American cable networks starting Feb 1

For the first time ever, America can now watch can now watch Nollywood films in the comfort of their homes on major cable TV networks. See the official press release after the cut...

A welcomed innovation in the entertainment industry is here, as Nollywood movies will now be available on major cable television networks in the U.S. courtesy of Brandcast Media, Inc. Nollywood, the leader in the African movie industry, is currently the third-largest producer of feature films in the world, ranking only behind Hollywood in the United States and India's Bollywood as number two. Viewers of Time Warner, Cox, partners and affiliate cable television networks will now be able to watch Nollywood movies On-Demand starting February 1st, 2013. This will be a boon to millions of cable subscribers of various cultural orientations in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.

With the addition of Nollywood movies to Cable TV content, Brandcast Media, Inc. aims to generate crossover appeal through the exposure of this unique content to over 40 million North American homes. The movies are carefully selected high quality titles that will end the usual buyer's remorse viewers experience with some Nollywood movies they purchase without preview. There will be no endless parts, just one complete uninterrupted movie viewing experience. With Cable, Nollywood fans that usually watch the movies online will have no concerns about Internet speed or buffering, just when the viewer is being captivated by the movie. About 80% of the movies to be shown on ‘Nollywood Hits’ have never been seen.

Some of the high quality productions to be featured on Nollywood Hits On Demand include ‘Somewhere in Africa’, ‘Mind Games’, ‘Unwanted Guest’, ‘Married But Living Single,’ etc., and will feature notable actors in the Nollywood Industry such as Genevieve Nnaji, Van Vicker, Funke Akindele, Majid Michel, Joke Silva, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Yvonne Nelson, and so many more.

“The distribution of Nollywood movies on major Cable networks in the U.S. is the next logical stage in the growth of the Nollywood Movie Industry. It's a dream come true for the many talents in the industry and the vindication of a culture often marginalized in the western market; a real chance for bilateral acculturation and the consequent achievement of crossover appeal for the movies as a cultural export from Africa. Now the world will see the real life and style of Africa in the comfort of their homes”. - Perry Umoh, President & CEO, Brandcast Media Inc.

As a legitimate global distribution channel, Nollywood on major cable television networks will be an emergent answer to Nollywood’s rampant piracy and lack of investment and theatrical release interest. Nollywood’s presence on U.S. cable network giants will impact positively the industry’s revenue growth and address existing piracy issues. These select Nollywood movies will be available On Demand at $3.95 each.

  15. They are confused if they think ppl will pay $4 aq movie.....when IrokoTV is only $5 a month for unlimited movies. I would rather just invest in a good HDMI cable cord to hook my laptop up to my TV.

  16. Una try o, but $3.95 on demand for each? E get as e be o. It had better be the most current movies cos we get slightly older ones for African stores all over cheaper than that, besides the internet is available. But it's all good. It's a nice move, hopefully this will totally bring Nollywood to Hollywood or vice versa.

  18. Geez Linda you are so excited you even typed "you can now watch it" twice. A beg free that side. Which kind major networks. 80% of surburban areas do not have BET(black entertainment tv) and Oprah's channel in their neighborhood so it is Nollywood with their copy copy and poorly written scripts they will showcase. 29. Niajas don't get it twisted, there is not that much demand for our movies here in the states because, both whites and black can't understand our accent(funny but it's the truth). One more thing, Cox is is cheap ass cable company, Dishnetwork have a Nigerian channel for 30 bucks a month.

  34. I personally dont see them making any money off this, on demand my foot when i can go online and watch for free....and Linda, u talking abt the internet in the U.S. oo, internet problem, buffering? U must be kidding me. To cap it all, more people are leaving cable nowadays in the U.S. to opt for netlix, amazon, hulu and the rest, cos u pay like $8 for unlimited monthly service! Getting nollywood movies on netflix would be a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do the Dollar conversion and check how much for one movie....for real. When you can get for free from the internet. For me not watching and I know folks here will not watch that bullshit even for free. Most copycats of American movies already.

    ReplyDelete
  36. On demand??? On Cox tv??? , like who even witches cox tv anymore? No thank you, i'll stick with iroko tv, and still be able to hook up my tv to the internet.

We should be ashamed of their quality and kick the director's asses for better cinematography, sound and continuity. Even editing.

  45. I quit watching american movies when I learned about nollywood movies in 2008. I absolutely love nollywood. Folks in the US are dropping high priced cable to go to Netflix, HULU Amazon prime because its about 7.99 a month, thats where nollywood movies need to go. IROKOTV got a good deal but they shouldnt have commercials in the older movies and they need to add new movies more often.
